Default Totally original post....NOT! (Tire Advice Sought)

I just ordered a set of SO2 N4's. I had originally read very good reviews for SO2's but understood them to be discontinued. The other options were Pirelli P0's (which my car is shod with currently and I do not like one bit due to excessive noise, awful tramlining and an unstable floaty feeling at high speed - this is probably completely unfair as the tires have been in storage for 6 years and rubber is probably hard as a rock, nevertheless its put me off!!) or SO3's.

The "tire guy" informs me that the SO2's he gets are a NEW tire and possibly not the same as the old ones (he told me to check Rennlist and ask around!LOL!)

Anyway I'd appreciate comments (yes I've read oodles from doing searches so if you cant stand posting to another tire thread I totally understand!)

Along with the new tires I'm adding my lowering springs that have been sitting around awaiting my DIY skills to increase in power to an extent that would thereby offset any potential Kahdmus Syndrome failures. Sorry BTW Jeff C. after all the coaching to get this job done, but I figure I can get springs put on, new tires and alignment/balancing done quickly and relatively cheaply (around $1000 inclusive) so why tempt fate!!

Cheers,

Howard: No sense of adventure after the Cargraphic cooler install? Taking the car into a real mechanic for upgrades is cheating. (Thanks again for your help and the beer!)

Before you decide to trash the Pirelli's you might want to consider inflation pressure and alignment (and/or shocks) as contributing to some of the poor handling ...

Bridgestone has an S02A tread pattern on around 6 sizes, which is fairly new, maybe in the past year or two. You can see which sizes on the Bridgestone web site - look at the specs on the S02, note the '+' footnote on the right hand side of the chart.

Well Tom, I hate to waste the inspiration you gave me with the perfect cooler install & if you wanna help slap those springs on I'm sure we could probably knock it out in few hours! (the mechs book said 30 minutes per corner) :-)

Bill, I'll take a look at the site, have you any experience with these tires? Opinions?

Thanks guys!

Sorry, no personal experience with the S02A's, although I see to recall some positive comments on them. Check with Viken, a moderator on the 993 board, who is very knowledgable on tires.

Look at this thread .

Viken likes the S-02A better than the other flavors (but they are not his favorite tire).

Kahdmus!!

I have the S02' all round!! And I'm more than happy with them, except for the noise (tramlining???) but the grip is good also in wet conditions!!

Just my two cents

I'm back with SO2's after a brief fling with Kuhmos. I like SO2s - but one thing you might find is that once they are getting a bit worn, they tramline pretty badly. That's why I tried switching to other tyres - but didn't like them at all. SO2s seem to grip well and I find them very predictable.

Thanks for the input Dave, actually tramlining was one of my complaints with the tires that I have. I doubt they can be worse than the ones I've got on...quite uncomfortable at times when I suddenly find myself on rails going in a direction other than the one I expected!!

New S02A's went on today, plus alignment and corner balance. Combined with the new rotors, caps, oil, filters and flushed transmission, the car feels GREAT!!! Unfortunately my shocks were shot so I didnt put on the new springs, but new Bilsteins will arrive next week and the whole lot will go on!

The terrible handling at high speed has completely disappeared ..I cant imagine how good the new suspension is going to feel..like a new car!!!

Have you bought your new suspension? Did I miss this? I think you get the prize for most improved 964 in 2004 (although Christer may have something to say about that!)
