Default 964 C4 shifter rattle at higher RPMs

Hello fellow rennlisters. I have a 1991 964 C4 which I installed SSK kit into a couple of years ago. When I took the car out of storage this spring I noticed a suble rattle sound from the shifter when driving 3000RPM. I didnt care too much about it, but it got worse and is present from 3000 RPM every time now. When hitting 5000RPM its really bad. Anyone here ever heard or seen this before?

Here is a short video demonstrating the sound:

What I have tried:

- Open up shifter area and done a visual inspection. Everything looks fine.
- Retightened everything involved when changing to SSK.
- New engine mounts

Any ideas?

Best regards!

Is it rpm or speed related? As in is the behavior the same at 4k rpm in 2nd and 3rd?

tested and can verify it’s happening in all gears. 1 out of 10 times there is no noticeable sound though.

It was fun testing at 5000 rpm in 4th and 5th gear

It seems like Tom Fun was having a similar issue In this thread you were also exchanging. Is it possible it’s coming from the transmission?

I think we're having different issues; mine is speed related and I believe it is being caused by either the front diff or blown torque tube bearings. I have not yet addressed my issue as I was working on my suspension overhaul and now want to drive the car for the summer. I'm going to try swapping the torque tube in the winter most likely and hoping that sorts everything out.

Since OPs rattle is rpm dependent, it seems more likely that something is loose and rattling somewhere, but it's hard to tell.
