Default Smelling clutch (brand new)

Hallo!
I am a new member with a little problem.
I done a serach at the subject but not found the answer.
The problem is that i have replaced the clutch and flywheel,
and at perfectly normal starts the clutch is smelling.
The work is done at a garage with a very good reputation
here in stockholm. Is the smelling normal?
What should i do?
The car is a 964 -93.

Ulf,

I had the same thing when I replaced my clutch. After a while it went away. Probably just the clutch bedding in.

Regards,

Andy

Mine did the same. Takes a while to settle.

Same here!! I only drive on weekends, so it took me a about months to stop making the odor, but I haven't smelled it in a long time.

after 10000 miles or so my clutch can still smell occasionally but only usually after some mild abuse...! I agree that this is probably nothing to worry about.

apparently the heads are ported and the case is flowed. The heads are now being machined and are waiting for those to get back. I guess the bottom end can be reassembled now but I have no concrete information on that. I'll start a separate thread when I have some actual news.

So I’ve had this clutch smell after we installed a new stock clutch as part the the engine overhaul. Did anybody ever figure this out? It only happens when starting in 1st gear.

Are you smelling the clutch when your heat is on? The engine's cooling fan will suck in any smells and blow them into the cabin.

Depending on the ambient temp, I still get the smell of the clutch after 20K miles. Its very mild.

I get the smell whenever starting in 1st gear with the heating/cooling fan on and I still smell it after about 15 drives and approx 750miles. Original Sachs Clutch kit. Very annoying!

I have same situation. It seems to be bedding in. With each drive it gets less and less. Initially it was over whelming (the smell) and I thought something was amiss.

So this is common? Never heard of it before. Any info on which discs were used? I just did a new disc in a 993 and no smell at all. Stock configuration.
