The truth about 964 windshields?
I apologize if this question has been directly answered already. I've seen references but can't find a definitive answer. QUESTION - Is the '87-'89 Carrera wind shield the same as the 964 windshield and/or is it a viable substitute? I see parts listing the 96454101110 windshield for '89 - '94 ('89 probably being C4 only). But then I see part number 911-541-011-27 listed as a windshield that also fits but is about $500 cheaper. I've read the late Carrera windshield is 1/4" shorter in total circumference but has the same antenna plug as the 964 part number. I've also heard the 964 windshield will fit the late Carreras that use the same window seal as the 964. I haven't seen anyone who installed the 911 part number windshield in a 964 and reported the results. Sorry if I missed it.

911 3.2 1989 MY and all 964 have the later screen
911 from 1965-88 have the same screen
The aperture in the car is basically the same size
Early ones have a metal trim inside the rubber seal so the screen is about 15mm smaller than the the later ones that dont have a metal trim in
All screens have an internal antenna since 1985
Answer to 1987 - 89 Carrera screen no such single part, dates dont match

Does the dash have to be removed from a 964 to replace the windshield....?
I got a pretty reasonable quote from Safelite to do the windshield but I doubt it includes removing the dash....

Yes, you need to remove the defroster panel (5 screws) and the upper dash (2 screws at the top, one screw each side under the cover plates, 2 hex nuts in the middle which are the hard ones to reach) in order to unplug and re-plug the antenna from the windscreen.

I had also wondered why my radio reception was so bad. Apparently, someone previously had cut the windshield antenna wire, maybe on a different replacement, and then just twisted the ends together...

When my installer did mine, he told me one of the tricks he learned is you don’t have to do that and can get to it from the frunk near the passenger hood strut. No dash removal done on mine. I didn’t watch exactly what he did, but he did remove the plastic cover above the HVAC to make it easier.

So the only reason the dash is pulled is to disconnect the antenna in the windshield...??
Any other gotcha’s when putting a new windshield in?
I’m going to get this done soon.
