Will you be insulating it, I have done mine, used sheep’s wool. Plenty of sheep in NZ aren’t there!

Yes, it will be insulated using batts: flexible glass wool. One of the reasons the door are taking longer is they will be insulated too. Actually, dairy has taken over from sheep in NZ, but that may change with climate change rules around biological emission of nitrous oxide and methane. Wow, that was a digression! Not a view, just facts - I promise

Still waiting for materials to finish off the garage. Most of the week has been spent reshaping the driveway, creating a flat entry and pad. Base layer done. 964 shouldn’t have any issues now. You can see the depth the garage has been cut into the ground by the formed steps on the left. Path leads around to the back door.

Let’s hope the wait ain’t too long cos winters a coming! What type of doors are you having? I first thought about wooden hinged ones, but It can get very windy where I live, so went for roller shutter doors as they take up no room and are easier to work.

Hey BW-Porsche, the doors are wood slats hinged. Wood and cladding had to match the house says the ‘boss’. So the door will slide up on rails close to the ceiling. Also rails minimise the lost of ceiling height for the lift. Roller doors are bulky. I had to cut the garage into the ground to maximise the ceiling height for the lift. Although we live rural, the planning rules limit me to 3M AGL.

The garage is north - south which is the prominent winds. Doors will be east facing. Agree on winds, just like the UK, NZ is an island, and windy!

A few weeks have passed. Long wait for the Metal Colour Bond to arrive (C-19 supply). So the roof is finally on. Next week should see more external cladding erected. All the wiring has been run inside & the main cable up to the house for power. The glass house on the side has its polycarbonate roof and walls done.

Pic zoomed in from the back of our land.

Covid is making the arrival of the final building components slow and the builders need the windows & doors before they can do the cladding. Anyways, we have everything now so it should come together over the next few weeks. Just in time, first snow has arrived. I need to figure out how to move the scissor lift from the house garage to the new garage!

What type of doors, conventional, up and over or roller shutter? Can’t really tell except that they are in short sections maybe. If natural cedar wood, they will last a long time! Can’t be too cold there Spokes, the guy still wearing shorts!

The doors are natural cedar running up & over on a rail close to the ceiling. This gives the maximum height. A roller door wasn’t an option with cedar. The aesthetics police (mrs) insisted the doors match the house cladding & garage doors. The builders are tough boys. Its probably -3C in the morning and 10C by early afternoon.

Slowly but surely…the doors are in, external cladding is on, metal still needs to be cut to the roof profile, then fit the flashings. Internal insulation done, and most of the timber ply. Sparky comes this week too. Somebody asked about the door mechanism: Pic shows the door rails are up against the ceiling to maximise the height above the pit / scissor lift.

Nearly there, hallelujah as they say! Looks like it will be cosy in there, come the snow.............. It was me asking about the doors, and I can see them properly now, thanks. Let us see the completed building, I’m sure you will!
