Childhood dream - presenting my new 964 from 1990!!
Porsche is a name that I recall from my childhood. Memories like driving down in Knokke (Belgium) at the back with my grandparents in their Saab 93, I was always imagining how it would be to sit at the back of a 911. Back then it was the time of the 964 and 993. Later it became collecting modelcars, making drawings of the Porsche crest as well as looking to buy my first Porsche when I was 16 (obviously still dreaming). Back then I was looking at a 944 as it was what I could afford.
Anyhow, I never ended up buying a 911 yet as I couldn't afford it.
I started my own business 7-8y ago and from that moment I have been keeping an eye on the 911 market (I also became a member of the rennlist forums during that period of looking around). I had a goal. First a 993 then it evolved to the 964.
That goal didn't change but the end looked always further and further away. I built a house in the meantime, got 2 adorable kids, started a second business.
And from the beginning of the summer I was able to start looking for my Porsche, a 964. The classic 911 shape, a good blend between old and new. Short production time.
When I was actively searching, I started a thread here (link) on Rennlist about the difficulty of finding a 964. Well, it's not easy but on the otherhand I didn't think I'd find one this quickly either. I have seen 11 cars in total.
The last one I've seen was last Friday and it looked good. Had history (bills, service booklet, etc), C4, sunroof, no rear wiper, clean engine, cup 1's, well maintained and within my budget. Exactly what I was looking for except for the color.
I wasn't sure about it when I saw pics (before I visited the car). My wife loved it, classy she said. Initially my dream was to find a Murano Green example.
Anyhow, I had a PPI done by Porsche Classic Center Gelderland, apparently the first Official Porsche Classic center worldwide. They've looked at the car for about 3 hours, then came to get me to run through everything and to join the mechanic on the test drive. An amazing experience, and what a place to visit! Got a tour in the workshop etc. Loved it.
PPI results, engine and transmission are healthy and good. No visible rust. They told me it's a 30y old car and that they have a lot of critics when doing a PPI. Many rubbers that are old and need to be replaced, decklid struts are weak, curtain at the spoiler needs to be replaced, loose window button, .... Small things that I can replace/repair overtime but no major issues. Car has been resprayed in the original color, probably to solve rust issues.
I bought the car to be a driver's car. I wasn't looking for a concours example, just an honest car I can enjoy with some small issues I could repair or replace overtime. Seemed to be the perfect fit.
The color in real life is beautiful, sporty, elegant, classy. And it's quite rare.
So here I present you my Linen Metallic 964 C4 from 1990 with 193k km's.
First thing I saw when entering the showroom...
The sales pics give a better view of the true color. Very hard to capture!
I was looking through the window at the PPI being done when I noticed there was a Murano Green 964 next to mine! The color I was looking for initially. It's the first time they saw a murano green 964 at the Porsche Center. It was a US car (no indicators on the fenders). Gorgeous color.

Looks a very good example of a C4. Welcome to the 964 world. First thing to fix is the smile below the front number plate! An easy one! You are from the Netherlands aren’t you? I’m in the UK as you can see. Good luck, there’s a lot of info on this forum. P.S. your English is impeccable!

Congrats just fix the frown and you are set, love the color. I have to admit I have never seen a 964 in murano green. The PCA color wiki rates it as a 5 or rarest of the rare colors. Funny I was looking up the color and i cam across a picture of my old 914.
Drive it in Good Health.

Congrats, she looks to be a beautiful example! Most of the issues mentioned are repairs you can do yourself, the hoses and rubber might require some outside help. Enjoy in good health.
RE: Murano green is stunning. There was one for sale here in the US last year but it was a Japanese import which limits use to certain parts of the US. It is a stunning color.

Congrats! That’s a lovely color.
I had a similar childhood dream, though the 964 was always my first choice. It’s everything I imagined and more. I was recently washing my M3 in the driveway and a neighbor started talking to me about it. He thought I had just gotten it and was surprised when I told him I got it over a year ago. He asked how come he’s never seen it, and I said, “Because I am always driving that instead,” pointing to my 964.
I hope it brings you just as much enjoyment and happiness.

I love the journey, the whole dream is now a reality. Linen Metallic is gorgeous! I haven't seen Murano Green in person. But it seems the Linen Metallic is really classy and I agree with your wife. Elegant and confident.

Great story, beautiful car—congratulations. My 3.2 was Linen Grey (non-metallic), loved the color and got a lot of compliments from Porsche owners.
Half the fun of owning an air cooled 911 is working on them to get things right. Now get out there and drive.

Love your journey so far! Seeing that Murano 964 is a sign... maybe one day it will be yours, or at the very least hope to see those two 964s out on the road together.
