Default Tow hook

I notice all 964's have the fitting for a Tow eye into
the front bumper behind the spoiler but not all have
the welded hook.

My car also has a welded on hook ..

Little thing like this keep me awake at night..

Sit's middle of the front panel and protrudes out of the
upper slot in the front spoiler..

That explains something I've wondered about. I've seen the odd photograph of a 964 with something in that area.

That is a racing requirement. If your 964 is fitted with this tow hook it means it has been set up and used for racing. If you read the standard owners manual you will see that ours are offset and the tow hook thread has a plastic cover over it in the bumper and the tow hook is in the tool kit.
I do not know that every 964 RS is set up this way either.
Your 964 RS has seen the race track in competition racing and not just fun days out. This is only time I have ever seen them fitted in this configuration.
Ciao,

The type of "U" shape towhook you describe is standard on the Cup and clubsport model only. It is not welded, it is bolted into the front panel.

Yes my car was raced in Germany,
I already new that before I purchased it.

I did notice all the Cup cars had the extra hook but not all Club sports.

Check GT Purley Porsche Nov. 2002.

The gorgeous Mint green club sport they test is not
fitted with one.

My hook is bolted through as JC says but also welded.

I remember reading some Cup cars ran without front
aluminium bumpers and this would explain why they would be required.

Don't like the idea of a bump with no bumper though..
