Rear wiper unit sought in UK
Changin the rear wiper, b*** thing snaps in two close to the head of the top anged piece - what a weird design! Knackered
....any one in the UK with a spare rear wiper arm unit available -the two part articulated one 1989 on....?
Cash waiting, also looking for front 2-spring wiper arms, to keep blades on the screen...!
IF so , PM please...

Ian,
I did exactly the same thing the other week. It's a common problem - I've heard of several owners doing it too (!!).
The original 964 design is flawed in that that part of the arm is very weak and susceptible to breakage. I decided to get a new one (from Bert Gear at Berlyn Services). The new part is actually a 993 part number and is MUCH stronger. Bert sold me a Bosch blade to go with it. About £80 + VAT all in. (Not cheap, I know, but it looks much better and it works too!!)
Regards
Dave

Dear Ian,
I had the same experience and did the same as Dave from same place.
I actually prefer the 993 look which is more angled on the rear window. It is significantly stronger as well.
Ciao,
Adrian

I had mine repaired by a mate in the bodyshop business. Welded/soldered a small metal plate on the underside of the break, bit of black paint...job done. Cannot see repair when in situ, stronger than original.
Cost....one pint of beer...

I managed to get a used unit by phoning 'round the breakers. I just can't help being frugal.. Can't remember how much..20 or 30 I think. Took a while - pretty rare to find used, though, cos they all break!
Now I am just careful with it...

Apologies if it's considered poor form to dredge up an old thread but
My rear wiper is missing the little threaded rod (under the rubber corrugated cover) which controls the "pivot" of the rear wiper. (Does that make any sense?). It seems a shame (and costly) to replace the whole wiper unit for the sake of this one part. Needless to say Porsche only sell the complete unit. Does anyone (a) have any ideas how I might effect a repair (I've tried an M5 threaded rod with little success as it has to be exactly the right size - I presume the original item is reverse threaded on one end?) or (b) have an old broken (as this is what the thread was about!) rear wiper lying around with the rod still in it?
Thanks for any help!
Mike

Hi Mike,
I replaced my arm a couple of weeks ago (snapped whilst cleaning the car, got a new one from Bert). PM me your address and I'll put the rod and any other odd little bits in the post.
Cheers

Actually.... (no - better not - I don't want to jinx her)
[whisper]But I think the TSB for the airflow meter might have done some good... [/whisper]
