These wheels are 7.5 x 17 ET65 front and 9 x 17 ET 55 on the back. Anybody know how the fit will be? I've heard they will fit without spacers. I'm just wondering how they fill the wheel wells, what size tires can be run and what are the implications for lowering the car a touch using this size combination. Thanks

The rear is going to bolt up and clear everything just fine. The front will need a 10-15mm spacer. On a 7-8" wheel, on the front axle, you want a low-to-mid 50s offset. Your +65 7.5" wheel probably came off of a front-engined Porsche.

Thanks for that information. With that thickness can you still run the original wheel studs? I also read something about changing the steering stop with wider front wheels.

You can do up to 5mm spacers without changing the studs. If you are going to 10-15mm, you will need to change the studs too.

5mm max with stock studs. And 5mm isn't going to get you where you need to be. Same with the thicker steering stops. The improvement is marginal and IMO not sufficient to make a 7.5 +60 work without significant rubbing on the inside.

FWIW, I run 17x7 +55 with a 225 tire and the thick steering stops and still get some rub. The rubbing improved after I put the thick stops on there but it still rubs.

I have the same sizes and use 13mm rear and 7mm front spacer. You can go more aggressive, but this setup still appears like it could be stock. Aka the wheels are still within the wells.

225/45/17 and 255/40/17

It's a C4 so we are limited to tire size choice. I chose the 7.5 and 9 sizes for the cup wheels because with my tire sizes, the sidewall profile Angles are same front and rear. Not stretched and not bulging. My original cup1 were 7 and 8, and the bulge was too much for contemporary tires- those look great with a more rounded sidewalk- meaty - and then a lot of other guys use 7 and 9.5, which for me is just all wrong- meaty up front and stretched in the rear...

Keep in mind- i also sand the sidewalls of my tires...to get the look i want...so I'm a little sensitive to small details...

Beautiful! How much longer studs did you have to install? I was told I could use the original studs with spacers if I went to steel lugs and have 3/8" of thread showing through the lug nut but that's not the look I want. I always ran steel lugs on a prior 964 on the track but this car will only see casual driving.

The lugs we have made you can see on the suspension madness thread. I do a 6mm bullnose and use open lug nuts. I have also a later version of the front hubs, i need a few mm longer up there than a typical 964.

So - stock lugs are 45mm from the bottom of the head to the end of the threads.

I use 55mm front and 60mm rear. And then on mine i have the 6mm bullnose after as i stated.

That's a nice finished look for using a steel lug nut. Seems like with the extended studs you could have used the factory alloy nuts. Is the choice of steel based on the type of driving or just a personal preference? Do you have a link to the suspension madness thread?

It's a bit of a monster thread. There is a ton in there as we went down the rabbit hole...

The reason to not use the oem alluminum is that i tend to take wheels on and off a lot and i use an impact gun- so the steel holds up better. And secondly an open nut with longer studs allows me to use different wheels and different spacing. So if i want to use my d90 with snow tires and no spacers to keep all the winter muck under the wells...that can be done.

But- if you know exactly how much spacing and measure right, sure- you can just, for example, get a 52mm front lug to use with a 7mm spacer and use the oem Aluminium nuts...
