Default Engine Lid Light issues

Hello, I have searched via google and forum search and could not find an answer. Apologies in advance if I missed an answer.

1990 C4 CAB

My engine lid light will only come on if the frunk light is on (ie. when the frunk is open).

When the frunk is open the engine lid switch does not turn the engine lid light off and on. It is always on.

When the frunk is closed and the engine lid is open there IS power to the engine lid light - when i was taking it out to see if the bulb was bad i got some sparks when touching part of the light fixture to the frame.

I'm pretty confused about how I can go about figuring out what is wrong here. :/ Thanks in advance for any advice.

The bulb should have power full time. The switch toggles the ground side of the circuit. Check your engine cover switch.

Unsure whether this is normal? My engine lid light glows too when the frunk is open. I noticed this when I opened the frunk in the dark, and I saw the engine lid light turn on. And I know one other 964 that is the same.

The frunk and engine compartment lights are on the same circuit and turn on/off together.

Thanks that would explain why my engine bay light wouldn’t come on with my frunk light unplugged

I pulled the switch out, cleaned it up with a brush and contact cleaner, and crimped the end a little better and it works perfectly now, thank you!
