Decent Looking Stereo Option for Older Porsches

Yeah, I don't see a dimming option for the main screen and it is a little on the bright side, but for me the fact that it's in a warm color helps considerably.

The backlight of the Continental front panel push buttons dim with the dashboard light circuit, if properly connected. The LCD backlight in the TR7412, CDD7416 and 7418 is constantly on.
The TRD7412 has a LCD dimming feature, and have a couple of settings in the menu. Factory setting is no dimming.
Please note the difference between the TR7412 and the TRD7412. The latter is a newer model, and include a DAB digital radio tuner for use in European countries as well as NZ and Australia.
Cheers,
Tore

I've been meaning to post this in the 993 forum, but I just saw this thread.
I recently installed a Sony MEX-N5300BT. https://www.crutchfield.com/p_158N53...omnews=8521812 It was only $110 and looks great; the design of this Sony is subdued. I was able to dial in the screen and button lighting to somewhat closely match the incandescent light bulbs of the instruments with either the medium amber setting or a custom, RGB setting. At least in the 993, the lighting colors are all over the place, so even a dark red looks fine.
I'm extremely happy with this Sony and think it's an awesome value (would have paid four times as much) and has decent technology. I have the hifi sound system with 23 year old speakers (one blown woofer in back), and this unit has transformed the sound over the crappy Becker. It's plenty loud, but can go low enough to not bother a sleeping passenger. Has a ten band equalizer along with sound presets that are quite good. I mostly use Pandora with it.
Although the original Becker radio looks great, I just couldn't stand the control interface and was unimpressed with the sonic quality. I considered the Continental radios, but I couldn't find good specs on FM sensitivity, somewhat important to me on long drives in the middle of nowhere. I also wasn't jazzed about only having one lighting option and preferred not clogging up my cigarette lighter with a dual port splitter so I can run the Valentine One and a USB charger for the phone.
Sorry for the crappy photos.

My CDD7416 does this, lighting for the buttons comes on with the headlights. Tapped into the ashtray light per Tore's/Bergvill instructions.

ebay sellers are smoking crack for some bastardized non working CD unit. For that much money get the Porsche classic for $150 more.

Yes, that one is pretty steep but the display is mint and the seller did the work to integrate the Bluetooth in a non-visible way. There are plenty other CD-2 decks with non-working CD players available for a few hundred dollars. If the OP is willing to do some legwork, he could add the USB connection or Bluetooth for an iPhone or Android phone as discussed earlier in this string to one of those decks.

Or, this company will add Bluetooth to a person’s existing CD-2 deck for $200:

Not sure how the Porsche Classic deck would be treated in a PCA concours event - could be a deduction as it is non-original to to the car, even though it is a Porsche part (like putting Turbo Twists on a 964). A non-visibly internally modified CD-2 deck would not be a deduction (like a set of hotter cams in the engine).

I installed a Blaupunkt Toronto BT420 a few years ago. Plays Cds, but more importantly, streams Bluetooth. Added an Alpine amp under the passenger seat. Upgraded door speakers to 6.5". Kept original crossover and tweeters. Replaced rear speakers with Infinity drop-ins. Gets the job done.
