Battery Charger
Could anyone recommend a really good battery charger. I have the Optima Deep Discharge battery, I always had a flat battery so a least I can charge this one many times. Any help much appreciated.

A plain vanilla Halfords trickle charger/maintainer. cost about £35.
And I leave the battery on when charging, always have on every vehicle I ever owned, two or four wheels. Never had an issue.
Always wait for the battery to tell me when it needs charging, i.e. slow turnover or irregular idle, car driven once a week if shes lucky during the winter..

I have the Halfords one too Kevin. Only thing I find irritating about it is that it has to be connected to the battery directly. Im very lazeeee.
I understand the Porsche one can be connected via the cigarette lighter.

That seems to be a regional thing, 'cos I asked when I got my solar trickle charger and found that mine was not powered with ignition off. Seems to be the case in the UK - I know some of the LHD cars do have powered lighters.
I do now - changed the wiring, although I've never needed it since I only use the trickle charger when I go away in which case the car is in the garage anyway so I connect to the battery.

With my bike I do - I have an Optimate charger and as far as I know, it's designed to be used when connected (and think it's a sealed battery anyway).
With the car - when using the solar trickle charger, yes I do.
If the battery is flat enough that it won't start the car / needs recharging - then no, I disconnect it and charge it somewhere else.

It was easy - although I didn't do it myself. Got it done when the car was in for other stuff - but since I've played with the wiring in that area since then (to wire my speed camera detector in) I know what they did.
Basically - since it's close anyway - they took a branch off the permanent supply to the stereo.
