Default Do I need this thing on my intake?

Took my intake apart to clean the air flow meter .. While reading someone's 'How to' post (thanks rennlist!) I noticed I don't have this little intake cone. Do I need it? Or why would someone have removed it in the past?

Airbox was stock when I got the car, but I now have the Fabspeed air box and k&n filter if that matters.

thanks in advance!

I would keep it. Its designed to help straighten the flow going into the air flow meter.

Bingo. (As old as the hills! 1938 wind tunnel photo)
Also, remove it and there'll be less airflow due to 'tripped-up' turbulence over the newly-created square-edge perimeter. (Turbulence there will effectively equate to blockage.)

Make sure you run your hands completely around the backside of the airbox cover, between the filter and the intake side. The absence of stiffening ribs on the FS piece results in pinching of the filter and unfiltered air entering the airbox. Most people only notice this with the engine outside of the car.

Thanks for all the replies. I called the local dealer and he stated it comes as a part of the complete airbox - doesn't have a separate part number for that trumpet. I didn't feel like spending a few hundred at the dealer for that.

Any idea where I could source one somewhere else? I have done some googling but couldn't find anything.. or even know the correct name or part for it.

Thanks Jason for the tip - I did notice once I had everything out that it's not the best fit until it's completely snapped in place. I'll be careful when it goes back together.
