Default Dyno'd my 964

I went to get a baseline on my 93 964 C4 and was blown away with the results. 263.7!

Does Porsche understate their numbers on the factory specs? From what I can gather this should be putting out 247 at the crank.

Generally before the 996 series, Porsche hand built these aircooled motors and there was some 1) understating of the actual power and 2) some engines saw slightly more power when new but all within a fairly narrow band.

Questions given your dyno results;

Have you modified the exhaust (cup pipe, cat bypass, etc)?
Any upgrade to the intake?
Have you installed a performance chip in the ECU (i.e. Steve Wong chip, etc)?
How many miles on the motor?
Has the motor ever been apart (i.e. top end rebuild)?

So I bought this car from someone who put a dual exhaust on it. It's hard to say exactly what has been done to it but I can tell you it is far louder than any other 964 I've heard.
Intake is stock.
No this is a stock ECU
120,000km
It was recently resealed.
Additionally there is a line item from the original owner in 1993 for something called 'engine upgrades' for $10,000 which I have no further info on at this point.

I'm not familiar with this dyno but the info I read shows it reads comparable to a dynojet. Dynojets IMO are notoriously optimistic. Test your car on a Mustang and the numbers would be considerably lower. As asked what are the corrections made and assuming a 15% drivetrain loss your engine would be pumping out 315BHP which I hate to say isn't happening even with a 3.8 build.

The most important thing is the engine shows to be strong and healthy. Don't get caught up in numbers. These are great tools but you need a base line to tell weather you have increased or decreased power with the mods made.

$10k in engine upgrades and you have no idea what was done????
Id guess maybe cams and exhaust/headers...which would definitely require a new ecu chip.

I was told at PAG that stated HP numbers are the benchmark maximum output and due to manufacturing tolerances it would not be unusual to get more power than stated in the specs.

That's correct. It's just a hand written line item from 25 years ago that just says "engine upgrades". I agree that there was probably a new chip put in back then.

They are an upgrade if your car didn't come with it.

LOL, good point. But would the same logic apply to a cup holder or a center mounted armrest? 😜

Lol could be! Who knows how did they market them back in the days!
$10k for an ECU reflash seems...Hennessey pricey!

Likely uprated cams and top end with some massaging to the ECU. Reworking the top end could get you these sort of power gains.

Good stuff!
