Transmission Mount
Looking for the Rennlisters feedback here. Do you have an aftermarket transmission mount?
1) WHAT!?!? -> Too noisy
2) No -> No benefit
3) Yes -> shifting greatly improved

i have the FD solid trans mount on my 89 c4. And yes, it is a lil noisy. but i'm relieved I'm not the only one. i thought something was installed wrong at first, until i researched the product.

I found that the there is little improvement and replacing the rear two hydraulic mounts with solid is good enough for track or street.

I agree with cobalt. I installed a new oem trans mount, drive that. Then installed stiffeners, then removed them when looking for noises. You can barely tell the difference.
There is a difference. And some may like it better. It's just not "best bang for the buck"...
One thing is for sure. It won't make the car faster. So don't think of it as a real performance upgrade. If the car had a ton more hp and torque, and i were tracking it, it would be a good idea to add the support. But a stock 964 has very little hp and torque, so with good engine mounts you aren't twisting things too much and the little triangle stays aligned well under on-off throttle.

I've now installed them to two different 964s. 964s are actually really soft 911s, and most people drive around with their engines banging around because of worn-out sloppy motor mounts.
If you've ever installed new, tighter motor mounts you know how much that improves the feeling of the car as you set it up for a turn (not to mention shifting). It's still a subtle mod to most, especially when just cruising around, but it's actually a big improvement in the car's stability through turns. The transmission insert, is just a continuation of this. It too is subtle (at lower durometers = 60A), but it takes another level of twist and flex out of the drive train and increases the cars predictability and stability. Given this car's rear weight bias, I'll gladly take more reassurance.
I'm looking at it as not just one part, but part of a whole drive train system. Stiffer motor mounts, short shift kit, solid forward shift rod and Goldenrod + trans insert make for such a solid and locked down chassis. With the insert, both cars had a completely locked down drive train feeling. No on/off throttle slop at all, but not harsh, just direct. Drive a car like that on curvy back road for an hour and I guarantee you will appreciate the difference. Viewed that way, I definitely see it a performance upgrade.
At $130, plus an hour install, I also see it as an awesome "bang for buck" upgrade. The insert also protects the OEM trans mount. It's a smart product.
So it's subtle, but big at the same time. I'm not pretending to be a racer, I'm just looking for a more precise and honest feeling from the car.
One last thing, tailoring this response to OP (Mr. Italian), it's a natural for you given all the other RS+ upgrades you are already doing.

First my transmission mount has 170k miles: time to refresh it?
I will do for sure the FD SSK + GR (best all around package I could find). Solid engine mounts come next so -> yeah transmission mount (FD as well?) will probably go.
I once had an Integra Type R with HASport mounts and that car became a giant ***** when cold: the whole car was vibrating so much! But that front end when driving it hard...ah, loved it!

It is loud when oil is warm. I would not classify the FD trans mount as street friendly together with LWFW and RS motor mounts. It transmits more sound than any other mod.
I don't hate it but there are many times I wished for a quieter cabin when driving. Do the function first insert instead.

I have the Rennline tubular engine carrier, Rennline "tunable" motor mounts on the stiffest setting, and a poly trans bushing and I absolutely adore the combination.

For mine i used rothsport reinforced engine carrier, wevo stiff rear mounts, and rennlines stiffer trans mount. I suspect it will be fine. I opted not for solids lol. I also put dynamat on the tunnel. I know what a lwfw and solid bits sound like. Would be fine. Lots of mechanical noise but not harsh.

BTW, want to be clear. My comment above is referring to the function first trans insert (slips into the voids of the stock mount). No experience with solid mounts, RS, etc.

I used the 65shore bush, purchased from FVD. p/n 964 375 055 02. Installed at recent engine rebuild, I already had the RS engine mounts, I don’t find it harsh but much better vehicle dynamics and better transmission shifting. I would do this again, no question. The OE trans mount was cracking and had failed.
