i circled back and looked at this ROW car again as a slightly cheaper option and a car that I would modify without guilt. I’m leaving Lauderdale now, after looking at the car. It was straight and is super interesting at the price point but I couldn’t find a panel that had original paint and the trim was pretty rough. Definitely sat outside a while. I do have a PPi for the car and a kind member here checked it out for me. as well. Carnis a great candidate for a complete respray and most of the black moldings and trim replaced. Carpet is faded quite a bit and while that’s not a tough task, sourcing the color and Japanese back seat would be maybe impossible?

anyway, overall a solid car with a recent engine rebuild but just a little more Han I wanted to bite off.

should have stuck with the more expensive RSA.
That silver ROW slicktop has been for sale for a while now. I even texted with the owner about it, but decided not to pursue further.
I'd say walking away from that car is a good thing.

Definitely not buying the seller on that one. I think they get these cars from people who bring them in for repair but cant afford the expense or would rather just sell the care. They purchase, repair and re-sell the car themselves. Nothing wrong with that I guess. The car was interesting enough to keep bringing me back...and I don’t think it’s a horrible car, it just needs saving. At the price we negotiated, I think it was worth it ——and I’m good for some work and throwing money at cars but this one just needed a little more time than I wanted to handle.

Car can be had @$47,500, if anyone is interested.

Fun fact - I think I read that the 94s went to VIN ....139. I was hoping I'd read that it went to 135, making this the last but, nope.

‘94 production goes way beyond 139, I have 279 and am not near the end.

I was talking about RS Americas. It turns out they actually go to vin 144 - making the one that I bough, the 9th from last.

This guy is funny. He relisted the car but raised the price from 55k to 60k. He might still be telling people that it had 120km when he swapped the odometer - but I have pictures from a previous owner with over 170km.,,I’ve sent him those pictures but I understand he still tells people it has less miles.

One of the many reasons I passed on it was that he swore up and down that the wheels were OEM - but they are repros...
States bottom of car is show quality? It’s missing the belly pans and well.... look at the pictures.

Here are some pics of details that he should really offer up with the car.

I guess I don’t get it. At the price of 47500, I think it was fair - just not for me...even though I didn’t trust the guy.... He could just be up front about all of these issues, where he is at least perceived as attempting to offer accurate information for the car and he would probably get a buyer. Instead, he comes off shady and it makes everyone nervous about the car..

So you met him in person....I think if I had done that, I may not have bought my car. He was strange to work with for sure. I do have to say, he represented mine pretty honestly. And, luckily, mine turned out ok.

Good luck with the search.

It had less to do with meeting him (I already had gone back and forth with him a bit, as you know) and more to do with meeting the car. He just made it obvious (and from looking at the car) that there was as little spent on the car as necessary and I wondered if any corners were cut on the work that he did do (engine rebuild). After looking at the ebay listing again and seeing “show car underneath” - it just screams of a guy trying really hard to sell a car without accurately describing the condition of it.

Really glad yours worked out - I’m going back to the drawing board and will stick with the “buy the seller, not the car” montra that is rightfully popular around here.

My guess is, that is the painter's logo/signature. They would also sign the cars in the 70's and 60's.

4 years later, I’ve repurchased the same RSA. Garage has been remodeled but it’s back in its spot.
I’ll do another thread for it but thought it would be fun to dig up this one. We all come to our senses eventually
