Default RS lightweight flywheel and clutch

I am considering installing a RS lightweight flywheel and clutch in my C2 cab because its actually cheaper that fitting the stock items. My questions are will the car need rechipping as I have heard that the RS flywheel affects the revs? and how much can I expect to pay to have the RS flywheel and clutch fitted in the uk by a specialist as I am going to buy the items and pass them on to be fitted.

it cost me about £800 (had lots of other bits done at the same time so can't remember exactly)
The Ecu didnt need to be re-mapped and it shouldnt stall too often

O/T - Andrew, I was just thinking about you (because of the 'Strosek' thread). How's it going with your beast?

Hi Andrew, Is the £800 labour? you must of had a lot of other work done thats pretty high for flywheel/clutch fitting. Can I ask what improvment if any fitting the RS stuff to your car has made?

There's a problem with the lighter flywheels; i.e. the idle may "hunt"
and the idle may undershoot (drop below a normal idle and engine may die).
There are chips available which corrects this, though.

Good Luck

I discussed this with my shop when I recently did my clutch change. They tried this once on the owner's son's 964. They said it rattled and had stalling issues and the shop owner's son said take it out after a few days.

IMHO,

Advantages,
1) cheaper
2) less weight
3) decreases rotational mass giving faster acceleration

Disadvantages,
1) it will stall, wether its infrequent as with mine or a PITA as others seem to be you`ll only find out when its fitted.
2) gear chatter - the gearbox will sound like a coffee grinder full of sand.
3) PITA in traffic as you need more revs to prevent stalling which means edging forward on the clutch is more difficult
4) the extra revs makes it easy to fry the clutch in traffic.
5) lack of flywheel effect can cause kangeroo jumps when trying to trickle along at low revs in first.
6) clutch doesn`t last as long

hey John

my cars almost finished (picking it up from 9m next sat), have had Engine rebuilt, new brakes, new paint (2 weeks) and tracking / suspension re-done!!

Should be able to keep up with you in the Lupo by the time I'm done!

only problem will be working 7 days a week to pay for it all!!!

No idle problems or stalling problems when I installed the LWF package, went with a 993 Club Sport RS Clutch and the Strongest Pressure Plate that Sachs offered, even more clamping power than the Turbo Pressure Plate capable of 650lb of torque. I didn't even change the ISV to an adj. But I do have a Autothority MAFS.

Interesting that you have no problems with stalling as I also have a MAF and suffer very little problems with stalling ( and no idle problems either) and have attributed this to the MAF. Even though theoretical it doesn`t control the idle, I believe it controls falling revs better stopping the revs undershooting the idle so far the idle control can`t cope.

Paul,

I specifically did not post this on the 964 or 964 Turbo board due to potential stalling issues. However, if you have decided to go down this route, you may be interested in the Special I am running on Rennlist. And I do ship overseas.

https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...hreadid=103264

I am also a former owner of a '94 3.6 Turbo with a LWF that was awesome.

GP964 and tonytalyor, how much did the LWF help w/ acceleration? I have the autothority MAF and am thinking about possibly a LWF and maybe a larger throttle body.

I now have an erratic idle and some stalling with the MAF maybe that will be improved w/ a LWF? I doubt it, but it sounds like you guys are not stalling.

Thanks.

Hi All,

If you follow Viperbob's link, here's the set up i'm running. I got it for $1300. Comes with a LWF w/ ring gear, bearing, spring loaded organic clutch, bolts, and the Sachs GT2 Pressure plate 1100nm(800lb) clamping force. Great for the track and easy on the streets.
This kit is awesome, let me know if anyones interested.

(Package 3 BIG HP Turbo 993TTs Guess which package I have???
This has the brand new Sachs GT2 Pressure plate with 1100nm (800 lb feet) of clamping force (List price is $1199 on this part alone ). Also included is a special clutch disc with a sprung hub that is organic on one side, and buttons on the other for smooth engagment on the street, and great clamping power at the track.)

GP,

Sachs uses the GT2 term sort of generically with this particular pressure plate. From your post earlier in this thread, the 650 lb pressure plate you mentioned you installed was last years model. The 800 lb was just released recently. The one I just put in my car was an October 2003 build...
