Wife kicked me out of the haus for the day, so headed up to Asheville for road bike ride on one of my favorite training routes. I have a roof rack, but often prefer driving with my road bike disassembled in the back seat. I usually park and assemble everything (5 minutes) in the comfort of a downtown Asheville parking garage. Had a great ride up to the Blue Ridge Parkway via Elk Mountain Scenic Hwy, then on to Craggy Gardens Visitor Center and back to the Asheville parking garage. Almost all climbing on the way out, and mega fun descending on the way back. Then loaded the bike back in the car and retraced the steps in the 964, but kept going on the Blue Ridge Parkway for another 60 miles. Mega driving.
Drove long stretches without seeing one car, then I caught up to a State Park Ranger. Once he saw me in his rear view mirror, he ducked into a scenic overlook until I passed, then proceed to follow me for about 5 miles. Just us two on the parkway for miles, with him following me just a couple car lengths behind. For miles. There's a strict 45 MPH limit, but the road was really curvy so he lost ground through each curvy section until he sped up to close back in on me during the straight sections. Was fun watching his distance yo-yo through the turns. I never once touched the brakes through the gentle curves. Was waiting for blue lights, but suddenly he lost interest and was gone. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/Zz...=w1410-h937-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/43...=w1410-h937-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/bQ...=w1410-h937-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/wf...=w1356-h936-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/Zq...=w1534-h936-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/3Y...=w1410-h937-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/m_...=w1410-h937-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/d_...=w1410-h937-no |

Thanks for the complements everyone. I really needed a long solo day out in the mountains.
Feel much more in-tune with the way the car handles now, miles and miles of smooth turns will do that. Of course brought the camera and had fun with that too. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/Se...=w1410-h937-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/mo...=w1410-h937-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/t6...=w1534-h936-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/f7...=w1410-h937-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/LE...=w1534-h936-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/k7...=w1410-h937-no |
Looks like a good combo of riding.
And when you say disassembled, you really mean that... here I was expecting you to just take the wheels off. Thanks for sharing the pics. |
Car fixed (new battery cable installed) and fresh oil change... so back up to the mountains for some more driving and bike riding.

Thanks for asking. I don't post to Instagram. Mostly just share here.
Finally finished the front (Rennline) struct brace install. Feels tighter pulling into the sharp angle of my driveway... https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/wE...=w1410-h936-no Looks like I'm going to have to get some 2X10s to get up this ramp! https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/U_...=w1410-h937-no |

Thanks Mr. Wolfe! Did a quick hardware store run. Usually park way out in the corner somewhere. I came out of the store to this... The guy was backing up to the 964 so he could get a good "couples" shot. Good guy, total enthusiast. Wanted a 964, but missed his chance, so bought a really nice Z3 coupe for $12,000 instead, and is in heaven. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/iX...=w1226-h936-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/QI...=w1382-h936-no |

Love the photos! Do I as a former owner get "visitation" the next time I am in NC? Looks amazing, as Rudy said, glad you continue to love and improve it!

It's because of your previous love and attention to this car (and many other Porsches) that it is in such good condition now. It shows when you look at the car, and I really appreciate that! You can feel the love from its previous owners. Thank you for being such good caretakers. No, you can't have it back! The adventure continues next week, as it will be surrounded by 20+ other air cooled 911s as we romp around the hills and mountains of North Carolina for #targacarolina. Can't wait to share group pictures after the event. For now, a couple more solo images: https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/Sd...=w1632-h936-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/rI...=w1410-h937-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/_W...=w1410-h937-no |
