Getting used to the new color: Cobalt
I’m back, the next chapter has begun.
After 11 years in the same 964, it feels strange to be driving in another car. It was not easy, but a found what I was looking for. Boy has the market changed in the last 10 years. My previous Slate Grey car sat on the lot for months while I built up the courage to buy it. With this market, it’s all about buying a car from a private sale. Many of you provided great advice along the way, one of the best quotes was “buy the seller, not the car”. That could not be more correct… I bought this beauty from Rudy’s collection, and I’m proud to say that it’s been “Rudified”. He made the whole process so easy, and much more re-assuring than it otherwise would be. In case you are wondering, he’s culling down his 964 collection to focus more on 993s and old BMWs. I very feel fortunate that I got this one! So what are the details… First of all, it has half the mileage of my previous car, with lots recent maintenance and perfect skin! 1991 Carrera 2 @ 74,895 miles Complete top end overhaul/reseal @ 64K New clutch/flywheel 5 speed Fresh top/clutch/flywheel/suspension 993 TT brake set up I need to confirm the rim sizes (front 235 on 8? & 275 on 9 ½? If not, then 7 ½ & 9) Euro pre-muffler bypass, and primary bypass (sounds very good!) Stone chip free (paint work on most panels) Sport seats, with cobalt piping and trim throughout car. Trip computer (didn’t have it before, love seeing MPH under the screaming tach gauge) Since it’s been Rudified, there’s not much left for me to do… so I will focus under the skin first. Will add stiffer motor mounts, transmission mount, steering rack brace, and of course a golden rod and short shifter (all tested on my previous car and really increased the connection and response). I had a lot of fun hot rodding my Slate Grey car, but this car looks so original and clean, that I’m going to leave it alone for a while. It’s literally like looking at 1991 again, so I’m not going to mess with it. One final note about the color. I've had a Slate Grey car (blacked-out) for years. Sure, it got looks and thumbs up from the occasional enthusiast. The response to this car has been next level, with lots and lots of thumbs up, especially from women. Everyone that looks at the car always has a huge smile on their face and start telling me about their own favorite car. There’s a very positive vibe around this color! Speaking of, my wife never really showed much interest in the previous car, but now all of a sudden wants to drive this car?! Enjoying the start of the next chapter. Heartfelt thank you to the forum’s help and guidance along the way. Good on you, my man.
Nice selection there. |
Oh that is a stunning color combo. :) Congrats on the new acquisition!
|
Congrats on finding a replacement!
I'm guessing those are 7.5" and 9" MM Cup 1 reps looking at the stamping on the rim and how far the front wheels are pushed out (assuming no spacers). I picked up my 1990 Slate grey C2 from Rudy about 4.5 years ago in much the same fashion. I put a WTB post on this forum, and he reached out to me. Hopefully, you had a chance to come down here and check out his collection. It's worth the trip and is much more impressive in the flesh than in any of the videos circulating around the web. I also totally agree with your statement about "buy the seller, not the car." You can't help but feel that no short cuts are made for any of the cars that pass through Rudy's collection. It's a beautiful color and combination. Hope you enjoy it in good health! Jon |

The only bummer of the whole process was that I didn't personally get to meet Rudy and see the collection. That definitely would have been the cherry on top. I had it safely shipped out in a enclosed single hauler. Houston to Chapel Hill, NC in one day (two drivers tag-teaming it)! Front is a little too low. Tires rub the wheel liners on bumpy roads... https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/Fw...w2114-h1404-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/o8...w2114-h1404-no Paint has a huge amount of color shift. Sometimes really nice darkish blue, all the way to very purple. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/q1...w2114-h1404-no Very shinny Euro-pre muffler cat shield https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/Vu...w2114-h1404-no Rudy even reinstalled the engine tray! https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/p-...w2114-h1404-no |
Gorgeous car, and congratulations on the purchase! I've seen Rudy's collection in person as I'm in Houston, and that car was always an eye-catcher. Cobalt suits the car so nicely. Hopefully this will make moving on from your previous car a little less painful. I still can't imagine how gut-wrenching that must have been.
|
love the color!! beautiful.
|
Just from looking at the pictures you just posted, could you maybe adjust caster to give you a little more clearance in the front fender well?
If you're going to change ride height, you might need an alignment anyways. Man, that color looks amazing! |
Wow that was quick. Happy to hear you're back in a 964. What a beauty
|
wow. envious. That color is on my bucket list. great find.
|
Great news. I'll even say I like this one better than the old one.
|
Rudy is a great owner and he certainly has amassed an amazing collection. I am glad he was able to connect with you and offer one of his cars.
Enjoy it Udo, you got a great one from a fantastic member. to new memories. Now, waiting for Anthony to chime in about the color. :D |
HUGE CONGRATS on finding an amazing replacement! Cobalt is at the top of my favorite Porsche colors, the color shift is very unique and when polished it is a jaw dropper! I’m curious what tire sizes are on the car, the sidewall seems a bit large? Can’t wait to see you put your touches on the car, I’m sure wheels and other minor cosmetics will eventually haunt your mind :D Enjoy in good health |

.. Totally different color. The earlier cobalt of the 90's was a very unique and difficult color to replicate. It consists of 10 colors (experts tell me the best colors of the glasurit line mixed together) It is much lighter in color overall with a lot of pink and purple metal flake in it. Color shifting is extreme depending on the car. I have never seen any 2 cobalt blue cars shift the same. Some shift far more than others. I have been told mine shifts more than most they have seen. Of course only making it harder to match. I was told because these were 2 stage vs three stage paints of today that they mixed mica in with the color that would cause it to shift. Vs spraying a separate mica layer between color and clear. The more the mica the more the color shift. In the 90's these cars were all hand painted with their 26 stage paint process and the end result depended on how much effort and mica was added. For almost all metallic colors very few are identical to another painted with the same color code. When the 993's came out the paint code remained the same but by then most of the paints had switched to water base and the paint process was changed becoming more automated. This regulated how the paint was mixed and the cobalt of the 993's shifted far less than the 964's. by the time the 996 came out the paint process was completely automated and if you park a 996 in cobalt next to my car they are similar but barely shift in comparison and the 996's are all very similar in color one to the next. The 997 is a completely different paint code and is not pearlescent like the earlier paints. It is far darker in color and looks more like Iris with some hints of cobalt of the 90's than actual cobalt but still a fantastic color. I find whenever I see a boxster or 997 painted in cobalt I am shocked to see that it is called cobalt because it doesn't look anything like my car. I added the pictures to try to show the different colors. Although my car changes from dark blue to almost pink depending on where the sun is in the sky the purple and pink in the last 2 pictures is close to how it looks in its lighter phase. (purple door 2nd to last and nearly pink fender last picture) Although these pictures do not show it correctly. the newer cars do not do this at all and my car next to the newer cars looks like a totally different color 97% of the time.

Rear: 275 (no spacer) I'm going to have the settings checked. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/X3...w2114-h1404-no I removed the wiper and debadged the car. Will install a wiper delete plug soon. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/yX...w2114-h1404-no |
Awesome and Congratulations. Beautiful. Now let's see how long you can go before you get that itch to change things up a little bit.

Awesome car and glad to see you back... and back on top!

+1 New chapter. Before I bought it I Rennlist searched "Cobalt" to learn more. Of course I read everything I could find from Anthony! https://rennlist.com/forums/964-foru...balt-blue.html Front: 235 (with 5 mm spacer) Rear: 275 (no spacer) I'm going to have the settings checked. I removed the wiper and debadged the car. Will install a wiper delete plug soon. |
Well done, tenacity through a tough spell has been rewarded. Great buy, 964 looks classic, enjoy. |
Wow that is a beautiful car!! Congrats!
|
I bet Rudy has gotten a lot of calls today! LOL :D

Congrats on the new ride! Enjoy in good health...
|
Well, that didn't take too long! Congrats to you, she looks stunning:thumbup:! I followed your Slate gray episode and hoped all would come out all right. Glad it did and couldn't happen to a more deserving RL'er. Rudy is the man. Enjoy the ride!
|
HOW NICE!!!!
You had it coming. Congrats and enjoy!! |
Sweet! |
wow gorgeous...congrats on the car!
|
Happy for you. Let's see how long you leave it alone. Haha.
|
Great news! Awesome looking car! Congrats!
|
Congratulations and well deserved! Did I mention I am partial to cobalt?
|
Nice work.
Enjoy it |
Fantastic car. Congratulations!
|
This is a really good rebound. You outdid yourself.
The front is not too low. It's hardly low at all. It looks like it has too much tire, not enough caster, and probably an unnecessary wheel spacer (assuming there is no rub on the inside without the spacer). Figure out the width and offset on those front wheels. |
Hey Udo, Congrats on the amazing new 964!!! One of my favorite colors and the car looks pristine. Enjoy it in good health and let the trips begin!!! mike |
Congratulations! She is a beauty. Did you post on your WTB that you wanted Cobalt specifically or did Rudy offer you his Cobalt?
|
Congrats Udo!,
talk about turning lemons into lemonade! |
Congrats on the new rig, looks like a winner!
|
Finally we will get some really great photos of the best color on a 964!
I get comments every time I drive mine, here in LA too, where aloof ignoring of your car (while eyeballing it sideways) is an art form. Even other 964 owners ask me if it is a factory color, in person the car pops, and so rare; you bought a beauty....and sport seats....having searched cobalt, next search might be "keeping linen seats clean". So happy for you, I was sad to see what happened to your slate car, this is proof that everything happens for a reason. Enjoy. (PS I had some rubbing up front too, depends on the tire, but there is a hard, sharp protruding 1/4 inch metal flap in the fender/bumper join. It ca be filed down and eliminated my rubbing) |
Clearly a beauty. Congrats and ENJOY. Cool to see an enthusiast acquire a very nice example.
|
Love it! I like it better than your old one. # silver linings |
Congratulations on a great purchase. I had seen your other car got hit but lost track of the outcome - well ultimately it was a great outcome. The wheels. The color. The mirrors. The brakes. The car. Very nice. Enjoy it - I know you will.
Brandon '91 911 Turbo '00 Audi S4 highly mod'd DD |
Wow. Congrats. That's a keeper. In other news Rudys PM box is 100% full.
|
I've been watching this unfold since your accident. You recovered nicely with a truly gorgeous 964. Well done!
I sold my 964 C4 to move into a 997 and I miss my 964 and all of its personality. |
Congrats on the purchase and glad to see you in another 964! I spoke to Rudy about this car as well when I was on the hunt myself. Beautiful example. |
Like others I wondered how long it would take you to get a replacement for your beautiful slate gray 964. Glad it worked out and a beautiful example in a great color. I'll look fwd to your updates as you make this new one yours.
|
Congrats!! Love the cobalt blue.
|
Awesome!!!
When I said to keep walking one step at a time... I didn't think you were that fast of a walker. Welcome back to the world of happy 964 ownership. Looking forward to the adventures. |
Congrats!!!!!
I am glad I was able to help either through conversations or posts. I was so bummed when you first posted and after we spoke I felt your pain. I couldn't be happier to hear you found another so quickly and such a unique ride in excellent condition to boot. You have been a serious contributor and we all look forward to your posts here. I was worried you would not find another that lived up to your previous 964. You know my opinion about the color. Their all good and slate gray is exceptional but cobalt is truly unique and an attention grabber on another level. It just doesn't show as well in pictures as it does in person. Drive it in good health and just stay towards the back of the pack on the next fun runs. |
Jetta - Glad to see you found another car. Looks great!
|
Again, thanks everyone! You guys have been my counselors during this ordeal, the highs and the lows.
I love these cars so much, and everything that comes with it. The forum's support just takes the experience to the next level. Also good to know you're not tired of my pictures!

Yes, I'll be spending more time cleaning the interior on this one... A couple weeks back I got a ride in a couple of "Jbarnes RS" 964s. One was a Mint Green C2, then followed by a spirited drive in a White RS. Both got insane attention on the road. My brother was following us in a Subaru, and joked about how a guy in a white Ferrari 488 nearly broke his next looking back as we passed in the Mint car.

Fat tires for sure, 235/275 Yeah, you're right it's not too low. Just need to get the tires and alignment sorted.

It's going to be a challenge to accurately portray this color, but I'm up to the challenge. Love the pink and purple tones, but my favorite is in lower light when it looks darker blue (almost like Maritime Blue). https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/X5...w2114-h1404-no A local Maritime Blue RS for comparison: https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/5Z...=w1600-h858-no |

Outstanding. Green* with envy. So happy that you are back in a 964. I am so happy to be "back" in my 964 (was out of commission for a while), and took it back on the track for the first time in 9 years. Fell in love again, and I'm ready to dump the 996.
(* I don't like Green) |
congrats!
yes, i always buy the seller. i have never done a ppi on any cars i bought and never gone wrong bought and sold with rudi in past. fair man with great cars. very glad to see u back in 964 |
Screw you and your happiness.
How dare you take a crummy situation, maintain a great attitude and then turn it into something even better. Congratulations, your new car is beautiful. May it stay with you for many happy years until YOU are ready to let it go......(at a profit) |
When life give you lemons..........
Order the lobster. |
Congrats! Awesome color. I nearly bought a Cobalt 964 myself many years ago. Well done! Glad you got another one. |
BTW, did you already remove the rear deck lid insignia, per your slate grey car? How are you liking the sport seats? I am looking for a cobalt pair, shouldn't take more than a century or so.
|
Gorgeous car. Are you sure it’s Cobalt? Looks like Maritime in the photos. Congrats on the new 964. |
^^ never mind. See the metallic and got confused when I saw the pics of the RS in Maritime. Cobalt looks stunning. |
Congratulations on what looks like a lovely example. Here is the C4 cab version of your car: https://bringatrailer.com/listing/19...911-carrera-4/ |
i am happy to add my congrats to the pile udo... thanks for your recent commentary/assistance as i am getting used to my new to me c4 after having c2's... little did i know you were moving the other direction :)
do you need to put a hundred fifty pounds ballast in the frunk to feel at home with the c2?? :roflmao: cobalt is lovely... real wow factor there enjoy! |

enjoy! This car is getting thumbs up from people walking their dogs, even my wife wants to drive it. This is new to me. With the Catless/G-pipe set up it's also a notch louder cruising through the neighborhood, but the color seems to mitigate most negative reactions. BTW, I take back my previous reservations regarding the G-pipe exhaust (secondary) bypass. I usually just heard it in a parking lot, were it definitely sounds lower than a Cup (primary) bypass. I wasn't sure about that sound... But holly hell does it sound mean, raw, and mechanical at anything over 3,500 RPM. Love it! My daughter's reaction is the best really. All smiles and already dreaming about owning it after I pass away... https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/i4...w2183-h1404-no |

So happy to finally have a car with sports seats, the bolsters alone signify the intention and performance of the car. They definitely hold me in place better while driving. Hens' teeth finding a pair in cobalt... https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/xm...w2114-h1405-no |
What a view! You've got me thinking about removing my decklid badge now, as well as my wiper. That thing is really useless... the amount of surface area it actually cleans is a joke, although I think the blade on mine is too small (13 inch instead of 15 inch), plus having to hold the button down at least 10 seconds for it to just go once or twice across is silly - perhaps the switch is going bad? It was well-intentioned, but execution was a bit lacking on that one. Looking at the protrusion that is left on yours has me thinking it actually wouldn't be a bad spot for a satellite radio antenna.. the little unit on the right side corner of the front dash in mine is useless for reception even in perfectly clear skies (but probably also 10 years old).
|
Udo, congratulations again my friend , you sir got a great 964 c2 and to top it off the cake , COBALT BLAU 💙 it hurt to let it go , but I know that I know that it went to a good home and thats very important to me .. I’m glad you and the family are happy with the car and I’m happy by seeing all this pictures of the car and I know they will continue to keep coming . Enjoy the car in good health my friend and if you need anything don’t hesitate to text me 👍🏼 |
It truly was a pleasure buying from you. That turned my previous negative situation around 180 degrees and signified a whole new positive chapter.
I can't stress enough the lesson learned about buying the seller... especially when buying a 27 year old sports car. Class act. I think I need to start a new club and make t-shirts: RudyGruppe RudyGruppe - for people who've bought cars from Rudy |

Congrats!
Gorgeous looking car in that color. Anyone know a source for the Porsche Colored Center Caps for the wheels? I've only seen them on suncoast, not sure a better source? |
Buying the seller is a huge part of buying an old car, having an honest and forthcoming seller can make the buying experience a genuine pleasure. It also impacts the overall ownership experience in a positive way, I can’t count how many times a buyer gets a misrepresented car and never really feels positive about the car even after everything is straightened out. Happy ending for everyone, Rudy gets to find another wild colored 993 and Udo gets into an incredible Cobalt 964. |

I love the system that's on the car now, but currently it's hidden by heat shields so I can't confirm the system...
I know it has a secondary exhaust bypass. It's a longer, swan's neck G pipe design. It has a deeper bellow on start up. Has a more gravelly sound just off of throttle. Light throttle at 2,200 sounds bellowly (deep voice) 3,500+ in 2nd and 3rd just sound mega, and just roars to red line. I can't tell too much difference at 4,000+ between the two systems. Has a better, deeper sound off throttle with a 2ndary bypass. I'm hearing all of this with the engine tray on. I'm sure it louder still with the shield off. I need to confirm that I have a cat bypass? Looks stock? If I have a stock cat, I'm keeping it on the car for now as the current system (though not too loud) is loud enough for now. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/Ze...w1632-h1224-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/5E...w1632-h1224-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/OK...w1632-h1224-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/PR...w1632-h1224-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/5y...w1632-h1224-no |

Oh, in fact, the map that PCA gave out during that weekend is a MUST HAVE keeper. It has amazing detail and descriptions of some of the best driving roads in that area. If you do not already have one of these maps, I'd suggest reaching out to Harmony Motors dealership that sponsored it,.. or contact your local Smoky Mtn PCA region, and see if they still have some copies left over. Here's a few pics of the Map,... on the backside, it has descriptions of all the "drives", for each of the regions. VERY informative. I could spend MONTHS just exploring all these great roads... All my best, =Steve https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...5980f0d07.jpeg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...0a4b9d95b.jpeg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...27d623682.jpeg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...f1662179b.jpeg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...dcf90c7c2.jpeg |
Steve,
Too busy running PCA stuff. That was the weekend of our annual PCA wine tasting Cindy and I run. If I have the weekend open I would love to join. Lets talk soon about Adirondacks it is approaching quickly. Still haven't pulled the 928 out of storage but should be getting to it soon. I have LRP this Friday, Hershey Saturday and I am running a trek on Sunday. I need a vacation LOL |

I have a whole list of roads that are just amazing, but it can take a long time to get a really good loop dialed-in. This map will help a lot on future drives! I'm looking forward to exploring the western side of Asheville. This is the company that produces the map: https://americaridesmaps.com/ |
That's awesome, congrats on a great score man! Glad to see it worked out for you in the end.

Congrats! Now you’ve owned 2 of the best 964 colors. Enjoy it! |
Just catching up here, looks like you've landed a gorgeous replacement! Good luck and Enjoy:thumbup:

Thanks again guys. There's a lot going on with this thread, so I wanted to ask.again. Is this a stock cat or some type of bypass? I'm curious and if it's stock, just bypassing the secondary (with a g-pipe) is pretty loud... and a cat bypass would be too loud for my situation. Thanks

If I have a stock cat, I'm keeping it on the car for now as the current system (though not too loud) is loud enough for now. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/Ze...w1632-h1224-no |
The pictures seem to be unviewable now, but if I recall it looked like a stock CAT to me. If you like the sound now, I'd leave it alone. If I'm not mistaken, the G-Pipe, Primary and Cat-bypass was a tad loud for some. I'd love to hear a vid of it when possible:D! Good Luck! Cobalt FTW

I just remembered that I have my old cat stored up in the attic, will get that down to compare. I tried to compare it to pictures of a stock cat, but it seemed subtly different. It's probably a stock cat. I'm only guessing because the car is so loud now (in a good way). Just a single secondary bypass seems louder than my previous cat & primary bypass?? Here's a random video I took in the garage this past weekend: https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/hA...w1632-h1224-no |
The car is back from it's first check at my local favorite shop. Dropped it off for them to give it a look over, and a round of mods. Right now I keeping the exterior as stock as possible, and just sharpening up the mechanicals underneath.
Starting from front to back: Steering rack brace Rennline 3-pt struct brace (still working on the install) RS hood prop (no more droopy hood shocks!) FDmotorsports short shift kit (RS-style lever and fork) FD RS forward rod (see pic, the forward rod cup was beginning to crack) FD Golden Rod Function First transmission mount insert (soft, 60A, orange) Rennline RS heater duct Rennline dead pedal Fresh brake and trans fluid (Swepco). Removed extra stereo amp bull****... This is the second time I've had a Golden rod installed. Last time I chose the billet shifter and used the stock forward rod and had a new front cup pressed in. This time I went with a RS short shift lever to keep the nice blue shift lever material, but went with a FD forward rod to complete the whole shifting set. Such an awesome, necessary upgrade. So, so much better in your hand. Shifts so well from 1st to 2nd. Really nice smooth, mechanical feel, with no subtle sense of rubber flexing or looseness in the lever. Highly recommend getting the forward rod at the same time. (Check your forward rod cup before it falls apart). Super happy with the Function First trans mount. Golden Rod + Short shift lever + FD forward rod + Trans mount insert + stiff motor mounts = very direct, and precise and quality feeling. Sponginess is gone, and it's not harsh at all. Highly recommend! Sorry for the bad phone pics: Still need to finish installing the Rennline brace - very tight in some spots. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/Jf...=w1249-h936-no Big crack had formed. I'm sure it would have been fine for years, but nice to know this will never be an issue. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/M2...=w1175-h936-no Heater bypass installed, and everything works as it should! (I had them use anto1150's one wire method = run a 7.5 amp fused wire from the + side of the coil to post #87 in the relay socket) https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/7k...=w1248-h936-no |
Congrats on the new car 911jetta! looks like you are moving pretty fast getting it to where you want. Love the progress. Cheers!
|
^^^^^^
Thanks. Your car, those wheels, that duck. Love the Ruf style rear center light bar. Just delicious! Plus, love watching your crew's videos. The new car is all around much nicer than my previous car, so I'm at a better starting point, but there are a couple mods that just needed to be done right away. Tightly connect suspension, shifting and transmission components really raise connection and drive-ability of these car. They go from feel solid but soft and floaty, to feeling even more solid, agile and super connected (but not harsh). |
Not sure why, but about half your pictures aren't working. Looks like a great starting list of mods. Also re: your exhaust setup, that does sound like mine did with a secondary bypass and stock cat. A little louder now with a cat bypass as well. If you can try to post more pics of the cat, we might have a better guess at it.

^^^ nice pics of the exhaust. If it helps, the Cat looks stock with all the regular fittings. A swan neck secondary by pass. My NZ spec is M150 with no cat. The cat looks the same as yours, except when you take it off the car, you can look straight through the cat from one end to the other. |
Thank you thank you 911jetta for the kind words. my car is still a work in progress.
I'm enjoying your build, keep posting updates. :) |
Gorgeous Cobalt 964.....looks Amazing
|
Are you keeping the understray? I know most take it out to let the motor cool better. |
Maybe I overlooked it...wong chip?
|
The G-pipe is indeed a Omega pipe.
The reason for all the thumps up for the blue car and not for the grey one might be a quite different one. The blue one looks OEM, the grey one had a certain distinct look on it that not many people fancy. Please keep it as it is, the car hat Stil, machs nicht kaputt. |

With this car I tell people, “welcome to 1991”. They smile, and really take it in. It’s a nice reaction. Yes, leaving the exterior alone, just sharpening the mechanicals. |
Has this happened to anyone else?
I tried to install a 93 oct Steve Wong chip, and it's too wide?! The Wong chip is almost 2 mm wider than the stock chip... https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/FJ...=w1235-h926-no |

Wow! Didn’t know you sold the slate grey. Many congrats on the purchase. Love the interior. At a glance, it almost looks like a Maritime RS (one of my favorite colors). Driving this to Rennsport Reunion?!

Is my car making popcorn? LOL
Had to make a quick video of the post drive snap, krackle and pop noises in the garage last night. This car is much noisier, post-drive than my previous car. |
so funny. Yes mine makes all the same snap/crackle/pops after drives. And I've recorded it too. love it. Such an aircooled thing that newer water-cooled guys do not get to enjoy.
Glad to see / hear you are enjoying it. =Steve |
Udo,
My car has the 150 option code as well and the cat looks just like yours from the outside. I've been told it is not completely hollow and that there are some baffles inside of it. Never taken off myself, so can't confirm. I also have the secondary bypass and the car sounds just like yours... even after putting away hot. Most crackling seems to come from the cat on my case. It fades quickly and the car did it less when I had an actual cat on temporarily. So seems to differ a bit car to car I would say. I'm already enjoying the start of this adventure and may take a page out of your book when it comes to shifter improvements. |
Duo.
Congrats on the new ride love the color !!https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...ef4ed47a53.jpg |

My previous car had all the shifting mods, and I could tell from the second I first put the car in gear that everything was stock on this car, and that had to change. FD Short shift kit (includes RS shift lever and forward rod with heim joints) FD Golden rod

I'd like to throw my vote into the ring for not drilling any holes in your hood like that pic. I replaced my hood strut shocks in my '91 964 about 15 yrs ago, and they are still working great. Porsche product 993.511.331.00 https://www.suncoastparts.com/produc...351133100.html LOVED the pictures from your weekend!! =Steve |
You've had much better luck than me. They are just too unreliable, and even when new constantly droop down when I least expect it. I'm tired of that.
I get the drilling part, but pure mechanical won out. Plus, RS. Speaking of drilling holes, has anyone installed Rennline 3-pt. strut brace? I'm playing with the fitting and adjustments of the forward bar before I commit... I also get that a strut brace, let alone a 3-pt. brace, doesn't do much without solid top mounts. But, RS. Look at that frunk, you'll never see a carpet in here, why cover all that goodness... https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/77...=w1402-h936-no |

Nice group of air-cooleds and your car looks great.

I like the Porsche sticker on the door, that looks really good. Do the wheels have spacers on them, hard to tell from the picture. |
^^^^^
No idea if that car has spacers. Will have to check next time. Sits very purposefully! Celebrated Porsche's 70th at two local dealerships, and stopped along the way to snap a couple random pics. car looks great udo
two questions... scratches on drivers front fender? (or is that just relfected light) funny nipple on the rear wiper delete... or is that a fancy antenna contraption you invented? LOL |
That color photographs beautifully! Gorgeous car! And perfect backdrops, as well.
|
Just reflected light. (I hope... will double check when I get home)
After removing the wiper, didn't want to leave the long threaded nut exposed, so found a random plastic hose faucet adapter that covers it perfectly. It looks like an '90s car phone antenna. Temporary until I remove the wiper linkage below the rear deck and get a delete plug. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/Av...=w1298-h936-no |
I think I bought a plug from home depot to fill the wiper hole, I think it cost all of 50 cents or something like that. You just need to re-use the rubber gasket in the glass.
|
Jimony,
That's what I should probably do... Was thinking of something funkier, but can't make up my mind as there are too many choices! From Car-Bone: http://car-bone.pl/shop/wiper-delete-pattern/ http://car-bone.pl/wp-content/upload...te_plugs_2.jpg |
Randomly met this guy while out driving some back roads. We stopped chat a bit and of course take a couple pics. He rebuilt the whole car himself. Stunning color!

How do you like the Contis on your Cobalt? I have Sumis on but fancy a change next time. Had Contis on my E55 and found them terrific, but they only lasted 9,000 miles (?!) BTW that is Magnus Walker driving my car; he had never driven a 964 and asked for a few laps. He had taken my daughter out in his racecar all morning, I was only too happy to oblige. |
The 914's are fun project cars. Easy as can be to restore. I did three and there is a third in process that I supplied most of the parts for in orange. Total go carts.
I recently installed Michelin PS4's on my Boxster GTS. I have owned the Conti DW and DWS's, along with the MPS2's and MPSS on different cars. IMO the PS4 is 4 times better than the PS2's and although the DW's are a great bang for the buck don't come close. I don't mind the 300 tread wear since I always age out my tires. Side effect of owning too many cars. |

BTW, I recently caught another glimpse of your 993 door handles (post #70) and just love they way they look, and how the color matches the side mirrors. If done right, you can keep the same key and the change over is simple APART FROM ONE WASHER THAT CAN AND WILL SLIP BETWEEN THE DOOR CARD. Now how would I know that? Car needs cup 1 wheels and black handles.
Keep it stock... a good clean stock cars are so hard to find. |

Wife kicked me out of the haus for the day, so headed up to Asheville for road bike ride on one of my favorite training routes. I have a roof rack, but often prefer driving with my road bike disassembled in the back seat. I usually park and assemble everything (5 minutes) in the comfort of a downtown Asheville parking garage. Had a great ride up to the Blue Ridge Parkway via Elk Mountain Scenic Hwy, then on to Craggy Gardens Visitor Center and back to the Asheville parking garage. Almost all climbing on the way out, and mega fun descending on the way back. Then loaded the bike back in the car and retraced the steps in the 964, but kept going on the Blue Ridge Parkway for another 60 miles. Mega driving.
Drove long stretches without seeing one car, then I caught up to a State Park Ranger. Once he saw me in his rear view mirror, he ducked into a scenic overlook until I passed, then proceed to follow me for about 5 miles. Just us two on the parkway for miles, with him following me just a couple car lengths behind. For miles. There's a strict 45 MPH limit, but the road was really curvy so he lost ground through each curvy section until he sped up to close back in on me during the straight sections. Was fun watching his distance yo-yo through the turns. I never once touched the brakes through the gentle curves. Was waiting for blue lights, but suddenly he lost interest and was gone. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/Zz...=w1410-h937-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/43...=w1410-h937-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/bQ...=w1410-h937-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/wf...=w1356-h936-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/Zq...=w1534-h936-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/3Y...=w1410-h937-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/m_...=w1410-h937-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/d_...=w1410-h937-no |

Thanks for the complements everyone. I really needed a long solo day out in the mountains.
Feel much more in-tune with the way the car handles now, miles and miles of smooth turns will do that. Of course brought the camera and had fun with that too. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/Se...=w1410-h937-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/mo...=w1410-h937-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/t6...=w1534-h936-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/f7...=w1410-h937-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/LE...=w1534-h936-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/k7...=w1410-h937-no |
Looks like a good combo of riding.
And when you say disassembled, you really mean that... here I was expecting you to just take the wheels off. Thanks for sharing the pics. |
Car fixed (new battery cable installed) and fresh oil change... so back up to the mountains for some more driving and bike riding.

Thanks for asking. I don't post to Instagram. Mostly just share here.

Mr. Wolfe |
^^^^^^^
Thanks Mr. Wolfe! Did a quick hardware store run. Usually park way out in the corner somewhere. I came out of the store to this... The guy was backing up to the 964 so he could get a good "couples" shot. Good guy, total enthusiast. Wanted a 964, but missed his chance, so bought a really nice Z3 coupe for $12,000 instead, and is in heaven. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/iX...=w1226-h936-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/QI...=w1382-h936-no |

It's because of your previous love and attention to this car (and many other Porsches) that it is in such good condition now. It shows when you look at the car, and I really appreciate that! You can feel the love from its previous owners. Thank you for being such good caretakers. No, you can't have it back! The adventure continues next week, as it will be surrounded by 20+ other air cooled 911s as we romp around the hills and mountains of North Carolina for #targacarolina. Can't wait to share group pictures after the event. For now, a couple more solo images: https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/Sd...=w1632-h936-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/rI...=w1410-h937-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/_W...=w1410-h937-no |
Thanks for sharing, I have saved your photos for future reference, they represent the purest form of 964. I want to emulate that exact same stance: sporty yet classy.
Really really nice  |
Never get used to the color....

Fixed my front bumper smile this weekend. I tried bending the tabs down, a little bit past horizontal, but I might have to tweak my adjustment some more...

^^^ looks like the lower edge is fine. II suspect you have a broken tab on the black plastic mesh that holds the center bar in place.
You need to clean that left headlight and you've achieved perfection. ;) |

Pressed against it last night and could feel an 8 inch section not fully connected to the lower bumper section. Will get that sorted. Thanks for catching that! |
#TargaCarolina weekend. 20+ Air cooled cars cruising around Blowing Rock, North Carolina. Probably did over 400+ group miles. Fantastic group (cars & guys)!

This just happened?! My oldest, who's grown up in the 964, just drove it.
He's 15 now, with a learner's permit and it's an understatement to say that he's been waiting for a long time. He's been driving the auto Sportwagen, but hadn't tried stick yet. I did a great job, and in some ways the 964 is the perfect first car to learn in (if it wasn't worth so much now), given the combination of the engine's low-end torque and smooth shifting trans (all parts recently upgraded). I know some of you might be thinking, "no way in hell would let my kid drive a 964", and I totally get that, each situation is different. It hit me later, I now have a new back road driving buddy. He used to stay home during my previous back road adventures, now with the lure of the keys, we might be going on more drives together. They grow up fast. #sportscartogether https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/yv...=w1302-h936-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/7R...=w1248-h936-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/OH...=w1385-h936-no |
My son learned on a base boxster I had for a 6 month bridge to a Macan lease. It was the perfect starter car. He quickly wanted to drive the 964 which he still wants to take out but gets the Boxster GTS instead. I guess I'm a bad dad. LOL

Love seeing the pictures and I love seeing that you’re getting it out and enjoying it! Renn-Meeting weekend! Had a fantastic road trip weekend with my oldest, Maximilian (15). He's grown up in the back seat of a 964 and has been a companion on countless 964 adventures over the years. Super proud of how this kid is growing up, and really enjoy just talking him for hours about everything under the son as we motored down the road. He attended the BMW Teen Drivers School on Saturday, so we made a "guy's weekend" out of it and headed up to the mountains afterwards to see if the BMW instructors really taught him anything... Looking forward to many more road trips with my new co-driver. Driver! Another bonus was putting a face to a Rennlist name, met up with dukmon. What a gentleman! First of all, it was cold and rainy the whole time we were together but that didn't faze him at all. He knew all the great roads (love driving with locals), and we spent a couple hours chasing each other around the mountains, followed by a great lunch talking about 964s. Looking forward to heading back, but this time it might be a drive and mountain bike weekend. Thanks Chip! Now on the the pictures (BTW, my son also loves photography, and will share his trip pictures soon) At the BMW school... I really wanted to take the 964 out on their driver's handling course! https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/gF...=w1507-h936-no While Max was at school, I had a rainy play date with RL's dukmon. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/aC...=w1410-h937-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/cZ...=w1612-h936-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/67...=w1628-h936-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/3f...=w1410-h937-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/6T...=w1410-h937-no Post-school mountain drive, seeing if Max learned anything... https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/dC...=w1248-h936-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/L4...=w1410-h937-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/Dc...=w1410-h937-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/Am...=w1410-h937-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/Tl...=w1361-h936-no |
Great meeting up. Really enjoyed the day.
Can you believe the weather swing between Saturday and Sunday? |
Sunday still sucked until we passed Marion. Pouring rain or fog the whole way. Then as we get to the switchbacks and steep part up HWY 80, all of a sudden we were in the sun.
I guess we helped-out the situation by climbing a 1,000 feet higher. Lots of crazy fog afterwards too, but that was another good thing for my new driver to experience. Can't stop thinking about those sexy BBS rims... https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/yl...=w1410-h937-no |
It's a shame you boys don't have better scenery to set off the cars more.

Incredible pics and it sounds like an epic weekend. |
Awesome! Absolutely love pics of these cars in the rain for some reason! I need to stop being so precious about mine when the weather is crap!

With a heavy heart, I will be putting the car in storage for the next 6 months as my family is relocating (from Chapel Hill, NC-USA) to Aix en Provence (France) until July.
Very excited about about the change, but will definitely miss my driving adventures with the 964. I will have much more time for cycling though... It would have been very cool to ship the car over to Europe and run it thru the roads there.
Enjoy France. |
I read the top line "with a heavy heart I'll be putting" and almost choked on my breakfast lol thought you were going to say you were selling!
Have fun in France! |
Someone who was local to me had their 993 shipped over when they were stationed in France for a time. Having driven all over France, I would love to have my car there.
Enjoy it either way. I love it over there, especially that area and north towards Lyon and west. |

Enjoy it either way. I love it over there, especially that area and north towards Lyon and west. Fortunately I love cycling as much as Porsches, and plan to return and pedal a couple famous climbs like Mt. Ventoux and Col de la Madone. Pics from the top! Getting used to the new color: this time it's Flash blue...
Not an equal replacement for my 964, but I bought this blue machine to tie me over for the next six months while in southern France. 2nd after driving a 964 on curvy roads is riding a road bike. The roads around here are amazing, this pic was taken just kilometers from home. Any aircooled guys on Rennlist that live close Aix-en-Provence? https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/1D...=w1087-h815-no |
Very nice!

Southern France is not a bad trade! Very cool that you get to enjoy that!
At some point my wife and I will move back to Europe and can't imagine leaving the 964 here! Would be great to drive so many of those mountain roads. Next time you guys do a little get together I'd love to join- love those BBS wheels Dukmon! |

You Euro Rennlisters are very lucky, the roads here are totally amazing and perfect for a 964! Next time you guys do a little get together I'd love to join- love those BBS wheels Dukmon! I go the Asheville area a couple times and year and can meet up in that area, or travel somewhere new if the roads are great for riding/driving. Planning to meet up with Mr. Dukmon again at the end of the summer/fall. He mentioned some Spartenburg area mountain bike trails that sound very tempting. Will give you a heads up. Yes, those rims. Love the rear dish and they look so right in 17s. Really curious how they would look on my car... https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/uG...=w1285-h853-no |

Do what you want its yours so enjoy it. I would save all the original parts though. I have to admit I am lucky to have one of two cobalt blue turbos with black interior, I have found in the world. Only one of three in the US the other two have classic gray and linen. I am not sure I would have been so eager to buy my car if it had a light interior. I am not a fan of light interiors they are just too much work to keep clean. My 93 C2 is Amazon over cashmere. I have replaced most all the interior to black except the door cards and carpet but have black floor mats like you have. You might consider doing what I did and start with the easily swappable parts and if you still find you don't like the light carpet tear it out and go to town but try to do so as to save it if you can. After all we are caretakers of these cars and someday when your kids inherit it they might want to swap it back or as sad as it seems the day will come when you chose to sell it and having the original parts never hurts.
Whatever you do don't sell. We would miss you and your great photos and contribution. I am still torn on ripping out the carpet and going RS cards etc, but so far I am happy with less tan and don't drive my cars as often as you do. I also found I like the door pockets to hold stuff and prefer the arm rest and handles over the clean RS look so I have stayed with all of that for now.https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...cedda06cc8.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...2f91507d5f.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...d29569efa6.jpg |
When I bought my C2 ten years ago, it was far from perfect. I painted it and bought the sport seats. The car changed completely. at least in my mind. I drove it a lot. Every day, every place.
Then I bought C4, which was almost in perfect condition. I knew the car before and knew the previous owners personally. I noticed that I was driving less and less. Driving didn't interest me, buying parts did. Now I have owned it 7 years and I have been driving for less than the first year of my C2. I have wondered many times that I sell it but what would replace? Maybe Ferrari because it would be nice to own one before I meet 40 Maybe I never get the same feeling I got with C2. I go on the track 2 times a year and otherwise I just like that I have this car. Normal driving doesn't matter to me anymore. Do what makes you happy and try not cares too much about what others think. |
Jetta, a wonderful read and I for one understand the dilemma. I have been on the hunt for a M3 in purple (Daytona Violet) and passed on anything with a light (Dove) interior. I love your car but that interior would be a problem for me too.
Couple of things, if it were me and this is only my opinion. Take the linen items out, carpet, door cards, seats and put them away nicely. They are excellent now and will always be an easy put back if and when needed and look fresh when you do. You can easily source a set of RSA seats in black cloth, perhaps the all time most comfortable seat Porsche made, ditto door cards and there are plenty of black rear seats and rear panels available all the time on eBay/Pelican etc. You can recover the linen parcel shelf in place and not have to remove it. For goodness sake, leave the lower dash and rear wiper alone (all that wiring: Pandora's Box), I know adding lightness is a tempting and easy way to up the performance but I don't see the benefit of it; either strip everything out and buy ear plugs, or leave the 7 odd lbs the wiper costs you. You self admittedly don't track the car so why create a buzz bomb for the street? A long time ago when the earth was young, I picked up my father's 2002 Alpina from the factory in Munich and had a drive around their test track with their own race car's driver. It cured me totally of the notion I harbored at the time, that I could one day be a race car driver. He did things with the car I thought impossible, while he was not a happy man, (being forced to honor the last 10 hours of his contract at Alpina before going on to F3), he finally smiled thinly once the tires were warm and he beat that track half to death. So today, I love to track the car and keep a note of my lap times, I have no problem letting folks in more heavily modded 964s past me and dogging their tails after. Surprisingly my fairly stock car hangs on pretty well, late braking being a great equalizer, until the brakes eventually fade. My point is, drive what you have as well as you can, adding performance doesn't always add to your skill or your enjoyment; a well executed turn in, power out and up shift is just as rewarding in your car with or without a rear wiper. On or off track. For the interior, if you are in Provence already, I can put you in touch with a nice bloke in Italy that runs around swap meets and picks up all sorts of interiors. I almost bought a Cobalt set of Sport Seats from him but we both were afraid the color was off. Might be cheaper to buy there and ship to the states, although, shipping the 964 to Fr. would be my first choice! I am sure you will make the right decision, everything is fixable, just follow your instincts. BTW, funny thing about that Alpina factory driver, in case you thought I was exaggerating, he went on to be F1 champ, any guesses who it might have been? |
Udo, there are ways to tone down the linen interior. Remember what Andrew (BHCfarkas) did when he bought his Amethyst on Linen? He really did not go overboard and only replaced the carpet, then added Recaro PPs and a Momo steering wheel, but it totally transformed the interior IMO.
https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...83983cc48f.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...1043564da9.jpg You could do something similar and have it look very classy and less "light colored". Change the carpet to a dark blue/black shade, add these Cult-Werk RS style seats and new steering wheel, and perhaps blue/black shifter and hand brake and your 964 would look fantastic. You have a great base to work from and it would not take much to make it the way you want while still being reasonably reversible. OTOH, you could go full Cobalt like Christian's 964 (misterbeverlyhills) which would also be pretty nice. Lastly regarding a hot rodded 964, you'll be stepping into an unknown and may inherit someone else's headache as opposed to the known quantity that is your current 964. There are some nice builds (especially here), but there are also a lot more shady builds, is this a gamble you are prepared to take? You have a lot of options, choose the one that makes you happy without worrying about what others think. Either way, you need to stick around so we can keep enjoying your posts and pictures. :D |
^^^ Wow really well put. Great Ideas.

^ With all due respect, how come you switched to black seats? Can't say I fully get it as the solid blue from the first picture is 911 porn in my eyes. After all we are caretakers of these cars and someday when your kids inherit it they might want to swap it back or as sad as it seems the day will come when you chose to sell it and having the original parts never hurts. Whatever you do don't sell. We would miss you and your great photos and contribution.
BTW, I don't plan on going anywhere. Love this platform too much, and hope to always be in a 964.

Regarding modding the car, I care more about what and if it's right to mod the car. More of a historical perspective. I firmly believe in doing what I feel is right for myself, but don't want to be short sighted and ruin something so nice. Appreciate you sharing your dilemma. I have a feeling you must scratch that Ferrari itch...

You self admittedly don't track the car so why create a buzz bomb for the street? ...For the interior, if you are in Provence already, I can put you in touch with a nice bloke in Italy that runs around swap meets and picks up all sorts of interiors. I chased lightweight in my previous car, I'm definitely not after that in this car. I just like the simplicity and focus that comes from a stripped interior. I look at too many R Gruppe interior pictures, a bad influence... You're probably right about keeping the mods easily reversible, and not pulling the lower dash or center console and wiring. Maybe a couple steps too far. The rear wiper and motor is pretty easy to remove and save. The Alpina driver turned F1 champ? "Niki Lauda, Niki Lauda, Nike Lauda!!!" Favorite scene from RUSH: Great story and thanks for your thoughts.

I'll look into the Cult-Werks seats also. Helps to have additional seating options. You're right about switching cars, that's the scariest part and the biggest unknown. Since modding the interior hasn't freaked anyone out (probably my biggest take away) I should probably now focus on keeping the car and doing what does the least damage to it. The carpet is really the biggest issue for me, but I guess that's actually easily reversible. So are the seats and door cards. I actually have a black rear shelf from my previous car. It's just that at that point I'd be so tempted to go all the way and do the lower dash delete and move the center console controls. Of course a Momo wheel would complete the project... removing the airbag actually gives me an unsettled feeling... so that stalls me a bit. Probably a sign to leave it alone. BTW, the seats are not original to the car though. The previous owner added the sport seats. I don't know if that changes anything, so that tempts me into selling them, since they may not be as valuable in returning the car back to stock. Then I might as well sell the carpet too... Again, thanks for the feedback guys. Really appreciate the thoughts and suggestions. Sounds like a good compromise would be to reduce the scope of the project to things that are easily reversible. Makes sense, and I can temper myself... I could focus on and we happy with a new black full RS carpet set, RS door cards, black center console and new seats. Plus radio delete. Leave the steering wheel, lower dash and center console switches alone. Keep everything I pull and put into storage. Since I'm in France until July, it's probably a good thing that I can't get to it, so I won't be making any rash decisions... just time to organize my plan for when I return back home. The car is safe for now. |

https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...38ac9f52e6.jpg Carpets are fairly easy (especially with the old seats out and new ones going in). The e36 M3 arrived today so only fresh off the carrier photos, drove it around the block, has beaucoup grunt, much more torque than the 964; let's see what happens when it comes on the cams. It was indeed Herr Lauda, watching that scene from the movie was a real deja vu because he was that charmless, and the same shifty little smile creeping in when the car started flying. I remember it so closely to this day. I looked at myself in the mirror that night in the hotel and said "race car driver", after a few sobering moments, I burst into hysterics. I was 15, driving in Europe on a NY State learners permit. Udo, go Cobalt blue, you have no idea how much traction that car gets in a crowd, and the cockpit for you will be a whole new place as you made the car "yours". |
Congrats on the M3, enjoy your new toy! All these old car are amazing.
I've been thinking about how to do more blue in the interior... depends on the seats and door cards. The simplified project now might just be: new carpet (rear seat delete mit RS carpet rear shelf), RS door cards with special pull tab design, and Recaro style fixed back seats with special inserts. Radio/speaker delete (don't use it anyway). Off to Morocco for five days... |
The heart wants what the heart wants.
Of course you have a great car now and you're comfortable with the most important aspect; how it drives. Make the interior your own. When it all cooks down to chicken fried gravy, you can easily restore the interior back to its original condition. Sounds like a lot of fun to me. If there is worry about the paint, maybe have a clear cover installed? |
964 withdrawal is getting strong, so took the opportunity to take my 12 yr ld daughter to the Porsche Museum this past weekend. Our trip luckily coincided with a special Stuttgart museum weekend, were all the museums in town had special events and open until 2 am! I've been to the museum a couple times already, but this is my first time getting access to the archive/model room! Super fun night walking around the museum listening to haus musik, bier in hand. while they started cars on the hour. Wild and amazing to share with my daughter who's showing an increasing interest for all things mechanical. A couple random phone pictures.

Nice Udo, thanks for posting the pics!
That is very cool that they opened the archives, I imagine that is a treat! |
Some good advice/thought already.
My take: And coming from a guy who has had issues with climbing value (Turbo) as well - when I bought the car (before the value spike) to just drive...enjoy driving. You have to enjoy the car. Otherwise what is the point??? So change what you want to change. It is a car. It has no feelings. There are others. This one is YOURS. And who cares what others think. If you need a dark or funky interior - do it. Now - if the "financial angel" on one shoulder is whispering things about value in one ear - then keep everything as a concession. You can always re-install. And keep driving it. The happiness and memories outweigh any potential loss in gained value. It's a Porsche - it was meant to be driven. I know YOU know this. I officially don't care about miles. If I ever sell it I hope it has more miles than any other car like it. As I was driving to Rennsport last fall (3000 miles roundtrip) I can't tell you how many times I thought about how much fun all the owners who don't really get out and drive their car are missing out on. But no my prob. Do your thing, Udo. Be happy. Brandon '91 911 Turbo '16 Allroad daily |

It's definitely not about the value. I've always wanted a 964, and I really, really enjoy using it and sharing the experience with others. My goal is only to keep it in the best shape possible, and think about its long term care. I just don't want to do mods that I'll one day regret. I'm totally over-thinking it, that's what months away for this car is doing to me... lol My visit to the Porsche museum left me conflicted (again). One one hand, it's so cool to see such original cars at the museum, and be reminded how special all these cars are, just the way they are. Colors/interiors, etc. But one the other hand, that yellow 964 Coupe Concept, with it's simple black RS interior and bucket seats is just about the perfect style/function car for me. I must have spent an hour standing next to that car... https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/Q2...=w1138-h853-no |

If you could do it, I'd buy aftermarket sets. Why not some RECARO's that do fold like the Sportster CS or similar? Move to black carpet and door cards from there. Black center console trim from LA Dismantlers.
Dice on the rear view mirror...... I think the seats you have now are worth saving to eventually sell with the carpets/door cards, if that time ever comes. |
I agree with Dukmon, save your Linen seats since they’re in good condition. Consider buying a set of seats that need work or buy an aftermarket solution that doesn’t limit access to the rear.
If you do decide to change the color, have it done professionally. Every time I’ve seen leatherique or similar dyes used I find the finish looks too shinty and plastic looking. Out of curiosity, what was the original seat in your car? |
You could probably finance a set of Sportster CS's by selling those. The new ones offer many more options than the original ones I have. I originally purchased mine for the turbo and when I went to install them found the black did not match. They leather matched the newer 911's which is more grayish black so I had to dye mine to match the turbos interior. I probably have 8k miles in total on them between the two cars and the dye has held up. As with most things its all about the prep work. I would only use color plus products and take your time.
BTW IMO the Sportser's are far more comfortable than any stock seat offer great support and seem to absorb some of the surface bumps while driving. Something to do with the flexible plastic shell. They do sit high in the car so you need to be careful what hardware and sliders you use if you go this route. Love your car as it is but IMO black or blue interior with cobalt exterior just doesn't get any better |
If you want to change things up, remove the seats and keep them with the rest of the stuff you mentioned. Get a set of Recaro LXB or LSB seats (LS back bolsters are more pronounced than the LX), bonus points if you can find a set of LXC or LSC which have the thigh extender. These seats are very comfortable and period correct, they would look great in there.
PS: Let me know if you are considering a Cobalt interior. |
WOW!!! That car is gorgeous!
|
All round great feedback. Appreciate the Sportster CS suggestions. That's a good looking seat. Really nice from the back also. Will look into that some more...

I was thinking of pulling the seats (also have the rear seats) and door cards, perhaps a few other bits. The only thing that might throw a monkey wrench is that I do not have the rear side panels and rear shelf since mine is a cab. https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...c7144ef61e.jpg |

Tempting if sport seats, but it would probably look bested if I then went with blue carpet then. Don't want rear seats or any speakers in the redo, so wouldn't necessarily need the door cards either.... Given some parts would be missing and some RS-style, I've have to think through the back/blue color combo. The blue center console interests me though... If everything was already already blue in my car, I'd probably leave it the way it is, but if I change the interior, it's my best shot to go with black and be satisfied. |

https://www.stableenergies.com/Recaro/products/296/ https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...d83ac9d734.jpg Really liking this seat option. Had Recaro PP on the brain prior to everyone's feedback. Love the fixed bucket idea, but this car isn't about absolute lightweight and the loss of functionality was weighing on me. I definitely have people or put my road bike in the back often enough to want to keep the folding option. This seat offers enhanced leg bolsters, that's a big plus also and one thing the sports seats are still lacking. Definitely look good in a 964 also. |

Udo, I may be biased but I tried the black/blue combo with RSA seats and hated the look. You already have steering wheel and dash in blue, it would look wrong to have black mixed in. With Laurent's door cards, console and your existing cobalt stuff you are only carpets and rear parcel shelf/panels away from a full conversion. You can add foam and recover the bolsters in cobalt for regular seats, not perfect but it can be done and works pretty well. Store your originals.
BTW what color is your headliner? Worth considering. |
LAcarguy is on the board, making some good points.

BTW what color is your headliner? Worth considering. Blue headliner, same color as dash and top of the door cards. After having recently visited the Porsche Museums, in both Stuttgart and Gmund, I'm going to hold off modding the interior for as long as I can. I love modded cars, especially Rgruppe cars, but something in the back of my head keeps telling me to keep it stock and appreciate what it is and what I have. When I get back to the States in July, I'm going to pick up my dad's C2 Cab and take it back to my Haus and give it a complete overhaul. It will finally get much needed new suspension and cup 1 rims, plus a through look over by my local experts. He wants a new carpet set so I'll experiment with his car. I'll focus on his car first and just enjoy driving mine around for awhile until fall. If I can't live with it, then I'll redo the interior.

Gmünd! Where it all started, and where a nice Rubystone 964RS sits. It turned out to be a wonderful family pitsop on the long drive south. While buying souvenirs, the owner Helmut Pfeifhofer walked in! Apparently when he went to the factory to pick up the RS, buyers could pick there own color, shocked at the color he declined his allocation. He ended up buying the car 10 years later. You should have seen the sparkle in his eye when he said he bought for half the original price. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/OZ...=w1138-h853-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/6M...=w1138-h853-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/_e...=w1138-h853-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/6M...=w1138-h853-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/Oj...R=w640-h853-no |
After 7 months in France, I'm back home in North Carolina.
Reconnected the battery cable, and the car started on the first try. No tailpipe smoke even. No problems with the car at all, and the AC still blows cold. Quick first impressions getting reacquainted with the 964. Such a fun car to drive, I just love the size and driving dynamics of these cars. The RS short shifter kit with FD goldenrod is such a pleasure to use. So solid, mechanical and direct. A joy to shift. With only a secondary exhaust bypass (Swans neck), the car is louder than I remember. Not so much at idle, but driving around town at 3-4K RPM. I've ordered a cat bypass and primary bypass but I'm not sure I'll install it right away. I'm really liking the sound of the current exhaust set up... I've have months to think about my next steps, and I've decided to leave the interior alone (for now) and instead continue to focus on improving the driving dynamics of the car. Soon to be installed: Wevo motor mounts, Rennline HD ball joints, "red" steering rack bushings, Elephant Racing Bump Steer Correcting Tie Rod Kit, and a lightweight Antigravity Battery. Still deciding what to do with the exhaust. Finally removed the wiper motor and installed rear window plug. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/e4...W=w743-h936-no Crazy color shifts. I love going through immigration at LAX when they say "Welcome Home".
I hope Cobalt starts up as easily for me after 8 weeks in the EU. |
Saved +35 lbs last night...
Had a lightweight Battery Tender (480 CCA) in my previous 964 for 18 months with no issues, so definitely also wanted to add a lightweight battery to this car. This time I decided to go with Anti Gravity for the extra insurance (880 CCA) and positive RL posts. Clean install. No modifications to the cables. Created a simple metal bracket to encase the battery and connect to the original lock down bolt location. (Late night camera phone pictures) https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/sf...=w1320-h833-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/Uy...=w1248-h936-no |
Started right up, no smoke, no flat spots and drove like "where ya been".
|
The mods continue. Feels good to get the hands dirty again. A mix of nervousness, excitement and reward.
Fabspeed cat bypass installed. This car already had a secondary bypass (Swan's neck/Long G-pipe), and I really liked the sound. My previous 964 had a primary bypass (Cup pipe), so I've always noticed the sound difference between the two different bypasses. My previous preference was for the sound of the primary bypass over the secondary bypass. That said, something sounded different with this car, over other G-pipe cars I've heard. Sounds mean, gruffer, and not so V8ish. A deep, Porsche sound, with just a little woof, woof hot rod sound mixed in. Very little Subie rumble. Different, but just as good as the primary bypass I used to love. I thought the different sound might come (from the length and shape) of the Swan's neck?? Wasn't sure... I remove my cat, look inside and it's basically almost hollow, like the Fabspeed Cat Bypass I'm about to install. The cat I'm replacing is also an open design, with a perforated side chamber, but with additional material at the back. Interesting... So after this install it basically sounds the same. Just a little bit louder. Just a bit. Where I kept asking myself, is it louder? Which is good, instead of thinking, oh **** it's a little bit loud. It also sounds a bit more mechanical on cold start and at idle, so very happy with that also. Just did a quick drive to work, so haven't gotten the car up to temps and tested throttle response or +4K RPM. Mystery solved. I always thought this car sounded different than other secondary bypass cars, and wondered why it already seemed as loud as my previous decatted car. In the end I got what I wanted. Slightly more noise, and a more mechanical sound. Here's what I took off: https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/hd...=w1248-h936-no Front of cat that was on the car https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/Q-...o=w702-h936-no Back of cat that was on the car https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/5O...l=w702-h936-no |
With all this talk about exhaust sound, of course we need a video:
Cold start with Fabspeed cat bypass with secondary exhaust delete (Long G-pipe). |
Just picked up my dad's 964 in Kansas and drove it back to North Carolina with my son (18 hrs, 1200 miles). He's 16 and just got his learner's permit, so he logged a lot of hours on the journey. Still getting used to driving a stick, in traffic, through cities, at night and for long stints. Handled it all like a pro. Very impressed. As a reward we took a bit of a detour as we got closer to home and head up to the mountains for some twisties. (Top of Mt. Mitchell and some Blue Ridge Parkway driving) We really enjoyed the experience and time together.
The car drove great the whole way and we had no issues at all. Such a sweet solid car ('91 C2 with 79k miles). Well, one issue, l think the AC drainage line is clogged, as we had water dripping down on our feet. That's an easy fix. My dad has owned the car for over 20 years, so it's time to do some upgrades and get it ready for the next 20. We just upgraded the wheels from D90s (wow does that make such a visual change), and over the next few weeks it will get new suspension, steering upgrades, exhaust bypass, and a couple interior upgrades. It's fun to have two 964s at the Haus. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/WR...=w1248-h936-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/y2...=w1248-h936-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/vh...U=w624-h936-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/oF...=w1248-h936-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/nK...=w1248-h936-no |
Sounds like a fun time. Enjoy these times while you still can. I can''t believe my son has been a PCA member for 3 years now and just had his 4th event at Watkins Glen and is on his 7th track event now at intermediate level. He loves to drive the boxster but will gladly get any seat time behind the wheel of the C2 when he can.
Time moves too quickly it is so strange drinking at bars and restaurants with him now that he is legal. Enjoy the Cab it looks really clean. |

Wow that is awesome, two 964’s! If our son is into cars I have to imagine he absolutely loved that opportunity to drive the 964 on this trip and I’m sure it will be etched in his memories forever. Hell I remember driving PCH in a Chevy Corsica when I was 16 and thinking this is heaven!
I noticed a rollbar on the cab, did your dad track it and or have some suspension mods already done on it? Looking forward to seeing the transformation! |

We'll make it a little louder, sharper, and look a little better. All the things that improve the cabriolet experience. As a diehard coupe guy, I have to say the 964 cab experience is not to be missed also. Much respect! |
Jetta - Congratulations on the new car. Sounds like a wonderful trip with your son. I too love the coupes but when the weather is nice, a top down cabrio is wonderful too.
As for having two 964's in the house, I couldn't agree more. It makes troubleshooting a lot easier, when you can compare cars to see what is different. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...07ab8da06f.jpg |
Unfortunately, I'm only keeping this one temporarily. Fixing it up, then sending it back. I'll do my best to stall things for a while, so I can enjoy some fall foliage top down mountain driving.
Also sad that I only have a one car garage. LOVE your garage! |
I am fortunate to have 3 bays but wish it was bigger. :)

Really enjoying having two different types of 964s. I've already taken the cab out on a date night with the wife and today drove it to work with the top down. My daughter is excited to take it cars and coffee tomorrow morning. Everyone should have two 964s!
I have the car for a couple months to give it a bit of a refresh (suspension, steering, exhaust, interior, etc.), and things started the other day with a through cleaning to get to know the car and assess any problem areas. The character of the car really changed last night. I removed the engine sound pad, drilled the air box and installed a primary muffler bypass. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/Ru...=w1248-h936-no Wow does the car feel different this morning. Prefect level of sound that really heightens the cab experience. Because it's been such a long time with my own cars, it's been interesting listening to the transformation from a completely stock exhaust set up. Totally stock (with engine under tray) the engine sounds smooth and very refined, but so distant. Makes you want to chill and cruise. The first drive after the exhaust mods really brings out a different character. First of all the sound is great and not too loud, and really goes well with top down driving. The car already had RS motor mounts, but they feel even tighter this morning as a whole new layer of NVH filters through the seat and controls. The car feels eager, more direct, and tighter in such a way that makes we want to drive faster. This is all low speed stuff, no butt dyno results. I like the new attitude. More of the driving experience is awake and present. Can't wait to get the new suspension installed and also tighten up the steering. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/X2...=w1248-h936-no |
Having wind rushing through a cab is fun. Porsche has always made great cabs!
|
Boy have we been enjoying some top down driving.
My wife even drove it for 50 miles yesterday, just random back road driving... she NEVER does any time-wasting, back road driving. Never. Everybody wants to cruise in the cab. My 16yr old son put together a video of part of the trip. I love the nervous excitement on his face as he's about to drive the 964 up a switchback road to the Blue Ridge Parkway. (Tired to start the video at 5:30, when my son starts driving) |
Nice!
Having the top down or off is definitely a great experience in these cars. Awesome to see the whole family enjoying it too, that makes it even sweeter. |
Awesome! My love for Porsches started with my dad and was reinforced by my older brother. I suspect your son is hooked for life!
|
Just a tip....in order to prevent creases in the plastic back window, open roof (maybe 1/3 of the way) to release tension on back window zipper, then unzip window and lay flat against the rear panel, then continue to put the top down. This way the plastic rear window lays flat and does not get folded when you put the top down.
|
What a great experience. My son loves to cruise in the Boxster with the top down and wants a bit more seat time in the C2 before he goes back to school. He really wants to drive the turbo but insurance restricts him for a few more years. And people say the young generations don't have interest in these cars. BS.
|
The heavy lifting has started! New suspension, steering rack brace, Elephant racing tie rods, etc. Should make a great car even more fun to drive.
I think I'll need to add Gus' rear tail light kit to the list. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/mc...7=w960-h910-no Was very surprised to see this for sale across the street. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/ZV...=w1121-h756-no |
Wonder who makes that cover
|
Wow, does this car feel great now. The front shocks were completely done and had no rebound anymore. Dead.
Suspension and steering upgrades installed. Trading places, now it's Cobalt's turn to get some upgrades. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/4C...=w1410-h937-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/3j...=w1410-h937-no |

Really enjoyed the 500 top down miles yesterday. Did my usual Asheville to Mt. Mitchell and back ride.
Had to take the cab, so as you can see, I was traveling a bit vulnerable if the skies opened up. Was crossing my fingers that the previous day's storm blew all the wet weather out of the area... (it did) https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/6O...=w1248-h936-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/up...=w1248-h936-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/HX...=w1248-h936-no |
Nice ride... and nice ride.
Got a Canyon here as well (though it's a classic in my case, much like the 964). I'm surprised to see them on the US side of the Atlantic. |
I bought mine in France, but they recently started selling in the States. Great spec, awesome value for sure. Really glad to have the disc brakes on those long misty descents.
|
Just back from the shop, had some goodies installed and a fresh suspension/alignment adjustment done.
Installed the "red" steering rack bushings, Rennline HD balljoints, Elephant Racing tie rod kit, and (black) Wevo motor mounts out back. Looking to tighten everything up, but not make it harsh. Old ball joints were dead, and outer tie rods knackered. My tech gave the Elephant tie rods a big thumbs up. Had to hurry home to meet up with the boys for a group mountain bike ride so didn't really get a good feeling for all the upgrades (highway/traffic miles), but everything just feels so tight and responsive. Time to head for the mountains! Some phone pics of the new stance. Can't tell if I'm higher or lower than before, but made it up the driveway so all good. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/Wl...=w1440-h936-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/1Y...=w1248-h936-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/Br...=w1248-h936-no |
Your car looks great, but I especially enjoy seeing shots of your dads red cab for obvious reasons
|
Looking good Ralph!
We have a wedding anniversary coming up this weekend, and my wife already txt'd me asking to take the car out as we celebrate the occasion. She loves driving the red car, and NEVER even gives my coupe a second look. Google-eyed over this car; I just can't get over her positive reaction. Her first car was red, so it's probably something primal... |
No singing the blues here, the car feels great.

Anyway, always love seeing you take your bike in the car for a ride. I wish I was brave enough to do that with the 964... my 997 got a few scuffs from transporting the bike, so I just cant get myself to the point of risking that with the 964. But to combine both passions in one morning... Epic! |
Back from another 500 mile weekend, and I'm really happy with the way the car drives after this most recent round of mods. (alignment and steering mods)
My basic goal is to sharpen up the controls and response of the the car and I think I'm at a great point. Kinda RS-lite. The car definitely doesn't feel soft and cushy, but in no way is anything harsh or too loud. Everything feels sharper, more direct and hunkered-down. Brakes, suspension, steering, motor mounts, shifting and exhaust have all be turned up a notch, making the car feel very rewarding to drive. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/SI...=w1381-h937-no |

4 days of epic curvy mountain roads in Northwestern North Carolina with 40 like-minded enthusiasts. The Cobalt machine ate it all up! The balance between the suspension, steering, brakes, tires, shifting, and motor is amazing. Everything on the car feels so solid and dialed-in right now. These cars have SO much mechanical grip in tight second and third gear turns it's insane. (Running 235/275 combo) BTW, all aircooled cars play well together! Had such an enjoyable weekend running errands with my 12 year old. Something is up with the pictures... just figured I'd let you know.
I'm checking on the PC (Win 10) now, and no pictures here either. Different browsers, different devices. It must have something to do with the picture hosting service I believe. What is surprising is that pictures I could see two weeks ago now don't show either. All I get is something like a grayed out one way traffic sign. |

Normally I ride a bicycle to work, so I really look forward to the days I commute in the 964 instead.
It was a cold but sunny 25 this morning, cooler than normal for North Carolina, so it was interesting hearing different interior sounds due to the temps. This thing feels alive! Had time to stop for a quick picture. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/lD...=w1248-h936-no |
Back from a week+ away for the car! Boy did I miss it...
Car jumped to life on the first after sitting for 8 days, so the little 5 lb battery is holding up well. Poured through a couple Rennlist RS interior threads while I was away from the car... forgot all that silliness as soon as I opened the car door again. Shifting is such a joy! The couple days away from the car reminds me how loud it is. A couple days back, makes me want it louder... Great pics, great musings - I'm in year 8 of ownership and have watched my kids grow out of the back seats, hit a deer, fixed it, encountered tens of mechanical niggles, fixed them, spent hours waxing on and off, sat and stared at it with a little glass of bourbon in my hand, commuted to work and play, and among other glorious drives one unforgettable college visit with my eldest (of course he ended up going elsewhere!).
You are correct - it feels alive some days, complaining when it's unhappy and grumble-purring when exercised regularly. This is the first material thing I have owned that didn't disappoint, and I'm a year older every year. |

Had fun throwing this together. Two quick parking garage drive bys and a cold start mixed in to round things out.
iPhone mic did a pretty good job capturing the sound. |
964 and 993s play well together. Look at that front bumper, the bugs are out. Kills bugs fast.
Fun, quick post drive impromptu interview with my talented friends! |
Such a beautiful car, Udo!

Great videos!
Mr. Wolfe |
He's become quite a good driver! Fun little video I put together (I was driving on the drive by shots =;.)
Have really been enjoying the drive time with my son (almost 17). Shifting and braking are getting smoother, and he's picking up all the subtle clutch moves that make driving stick so fun. Can't wait until he buys his own, so I can start chasing him around. |
It’s the little things. Finally got rid of those plastic interior handles, they've been replaced by Rennline aluminum door handles! Love the look and they feel great to the touch.
BTW, thank goodness for old posts on this! I hate those tiny c-clips on the end of the rod that holds the handle in place! (Another great Rennline product, with no instructions... how would you ever know how to install them without RL?) Also got rid of more stereo equipment! https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...d19d7555d.jpeg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...83d60391d.jpeg |

Very unique looking bulb, and interesting procedure. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...61c9ce3a2.jpeg |

Mr. Wolfe |
Looking good Udo!
I totally agree, it’s the little improvements and upgrades that make the car yours and also slowly restore it back to its original glory. The 964 platform is awesome in that sense, truly one of the few platforms that lets you create your own masterpiece. |
New tire day and she's looking skinnier... Conti ExtremeContact Sport refresh
My car was wearing 235/275s when I purchased it. They looked a little balloon-y, but were in new condition so I happily drove with that set up, only occasionally scraping the front fender liners on fast, rough roads. So when I started looking for another set of tires I thought I would go with the more standard 964 combo of 225/255. Over time I've done some mods to sharpen up the steering, so hoping the slightly smaller tires sharpen the steering up a little bit more and make the car feel a bit more agile (and maybe better accel. with a smaller rear tire too). I've gone through many sets of 205/255, so it will be fun to see if I notice a difference and have found the sweet spot. With fresh mold release on the tires I'll give them some time before I push it, but I will say I kept thinking the roads I was taking home seemed to be in bad condition...and I hadn't noticed it as much on the drive in to the shop? She looks a bit skinnier now, and can see into the fender wells easier to. Some skinny "after" shots Color in harsh, direct light https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/IR...-no?authuser=1 Evening shade https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/3i...-no?authuser=1 https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/BF...-no?authuser=1 |
Obviously this car is not about being super lightweight, but I do want it to drive as well as it possibly can, so I look to replace parts with something better (ie: narrower spirited design focus).
That was the thought when shopping for batteries. I couldn't stomach buying another old-tech 50 lb lead acid battery out of habit and noticed people where having luck with these new lightweight batteries (not the $1,000 ones). Looking at the success Jack Olsen had with his 5 lb BetteryTender lawnmower battery, I tried it. I ran it for 2 years in a previous 964. With that success, I went with the much improved Antigravity ATX30 in this car. I drive a couple times a week, but the car occasionally sits for a week or two while traveling. (use AC, lights, but no radio) I love recommending them, given my success, but am I just lucky? Don't want anyone to get screwed trying one... so what are the numbers? Tired of hearing "it jumps to life"... Antigravity sent some battery trackers to see the numbers really are. Cool piece of kit: https://antigravitybatteries.com/pro...acker-lithium/ Charge level as the car sits in the garage right now (so COOL). https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/5E...-no?authuser=1 A couple starts last night at around 9:11 PM https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/7z...-no?authuser=1 https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-J...-no?authuser=1 Played with different ways to attach it. But ended up choosing the most hidden option (I don't use the frunk carpet, like to see everything). Angle of photo is weird, but it sits tucked out view, and can easily flip it out to show someone the device or flip back out of the way. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/EC...-no?authuser=1 |
The car definitely feels different with smaller tires all around, especially at the rear (down from 275 to 255). With the 275s, the rear felt locked down, as if it had too much mechanical grip (if that's possible). Now the steering feels tighter up front (225, down from 235), and more agile in back. Overall the car feels more playful. Very happy with the new set up now.
Had a great time mural hunting with my daughter! https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/U4...-no?authuser=1 https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/Ar...-no?authuser=1 https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/XK...-no?authuser=1 |
It’s amazing how much of a change a new set of wheels and tires can make on these cars. I noted a dramatic difference when I switched from 16 to 17” on my Targa, the car feels far more planted and with more traction all around. It also transitions flatter.
Nice to see the continued progress. |
Looking forward to seeing your new rubber. BTW, about 10 P owners showed up in parking area Jasons Deli early Sat morning - then few of us drove to Road Scholars - Cam stuck his head out a bit he was filming a new YouTube segment on B Redmond's 70th anniversary win @ Targa Florio.

My 17 year old son loves to make videos, so we decided to go for a drive and get some drone footage of the 964. We ended up doing more driving than filming, so I’m totally amazed at what he was able to put together so quickly from a couple film stops. Hope you like it.

Had a fun day playing with the big boys at VIR. Our small group had the track for the day and it felt great to be back. I had about 10 track days in my previous 964, but the first time in this car.
With only 10 of us sharing the track for the day, there was no rush or worry about getting enough track time. VIR is a monster of a course. Two high speed stretches, and a set of climbing and descending esses. Started the day off with an easy 20 minute session, but had to pull in on the third lap because something was shaking up front... it was all the soft rubber I was picking up driving off line. Of course. What I really wanted to do was some enduro sessions... so a bit slower but much longer. Just wanted to get in the groove, and not be on the ragged edge, pushing it is a soft street car. My next stint was a solid hour lapping and I was in heaven. Next goal was to drive through a whole tank of gas. That equaled about 2 hrs of steady lapping, most of the time I was the only one on the track! So I pull in at 5 pm and make a quick stop at the track entrance to thank the marshals They were loving the 964 and after a bunch of thumbs up, one of them joked and asked my why I was coming in early. Track closes at 5:30... so back out. The gas light came on after a couple more laps and I nursed it until the session was over. Big grin. It's not a race car, it’s not super fast, but these cars are so solid and rewarding to drive. I wasn’t killing it, but was constantly reving out 2, 3, 4 during the sessions and engine temp never went past 9. Lap after lap I was hitting 120-130 on the two straights and the brakes felt solid the whole time. I definitely beat up my new tires. Got home, grabbed a beer and started to clean up the car. Wow there was rubber everywhere, but it all cleaned up nicely like nothing ever happened. These cars are amazing! https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...de4836762.jpeg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...d271617d0.jpeg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...13f1bc234.jpeg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...471d7f03e.jpeg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...b3cc6c006.jpeg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...cbe475c73.jpeg |

I am so jealous. Any track time would be great but VIR with so few on track is heaven in my book. That is a lot of rubber for one day, sounds like you had a blast. I am signed up for Watkins the end of July and hopefully will be down to VIR in October than over to Luft. I hope things continue to open. Although they have a BLM rally in my home town tonight not far from my home. I hope things stay civilized.

Hah that’s great! You just need the flying pig decal for your car and that picture would be complete.

these 2 statements alone are amazing to envision. 10 people sharing VIR for the day!! wow. i've been to VIR on a couple of occasions and even did a bertil roos school there in formula cars and it's a big ol' place. tons of room to spread out just 10 cars. then you throw in the comment about being the 'ONLY CAR on the track' most of the time. VIR to YOURSELF!!
talk about your EPIC track day. This was the first time on track with this 964 though, and I'm happy with the way the car felt and performed throughout the day. Definitely feel much better in the car on area roads after having pushed it at the track a bit.

Just back from a wonderful week in the North Carolina mountains to escape the heat. Enjoyed a daily dose of AM bike riding, followed by lots of PM 964 curve hunting.
Packed the bike in the car as I traveled around the region looking for new climbs to ride and had a blast on both 2 and 4 wheels. Hundreds of miles of 2nd and 3rd gear turns. I love the steering feel of this car! The 964 ran flawlessly and thank goodness for AC as I returned back home to the heat. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...e456ac5f7.jpeg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...e8c88c823.jpeg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...aa43e40eb.jpeg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...73f7e446f.jpeg |
Beautiful area, car, bike, and pictures.
I was born in Fayettville, NC. My father was stationed there for just long enough for my mother to complete her term with me and then move to the next assignment. Around four months. I've been back once to drive through and see my natal home. It didn't look like your pictures. |

Winner of the wet T shirt contest right there. |
Back from a visit to my dad’s. We spent a bunch of time driving both his 964 and 997. What a pair on the open road. My ultimate 911 combo would be to one day park a 997 GT3 next to the 964, so it was fantastic to experience both cars daily, back-to-back for over a week.
With fresh suspension, motor mounts, muffler delete, steering, and shift upgrades, the 964 definitely held it’s own and was super rewarding to drive. I’m a coupe guy, but LOVE the whole cab experience every time I drive it (top up or down). I really also enjoyed spending garage time with the 997. It’s much bigger in the garage, but not inside. It felt so stable at crazy speeds with the aero kit and does it all with ease. As a 964 owner it felt a bit soft, not the suspension, but the other controls, which for me I’m sure the GT3 would take care of... I can see why he won’t get ride of either! https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...f27854965.jpeg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...dfad26f09.jpeg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...3f85c1c1e.jpeg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...a16e89bb9.jpeg |

Another mega Targa Carolina rally. Three days of epic North Carolina/Tennessee/Virginia back country mountain roads. We spent hours hammering tight, heavily cambered, 2nd/3rd gear mountain backroads without issue. The car was a dream to drive...

Another awesome day in the mountains with my two passions. Cycling and 964 driving. Awesome weather to discover some new climbs around the Roanoke, VA area. Since some of the roads were new to me, I’m glad I drove some of the route before I rode it as I would have totally gotten lost in the back country with so many small roads.
BTW, these cars have such awesome cruise control. My legs were shattered after the ride, so I was nice to rest them on the highway and keep a constant speed. It’s fun to down shift while the CC is engaged and watch the revs rise and the car excellently resumes the previous speed. Plus, the car definitely accelerates very well by just moving the CC stalk! https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...12ec5ae60.jpeg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...312d5cfb9.jpeg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...ad53a033f.jpeg |

Congrats to you too though, love long-term car relationships. These cars have a lot to teach us. Same car since the 90’s is awesome. When you buy right, you don’t have to change.
BTW, love my sport seats also. Don’t know how I ever lived without them before. |
Yes - I saw it a local Porsche dealer (near Boston) and knew right away I was buying this color, and could not sell after all these years. I believe since then I have only seen one other Cobalt 964 in person - Anthony's Turbo.

Ah yes Jay Peak Parade. They hammered me there and deducted 5 points as a result of poor math. The worst I should have had was a 298.7 out of 300 and some of the of those 1.3 point findings were as Porsche puts it implausible. I should have taken first in my class but that is the way of Concours. Was a very long and uncomfortably hot day. Bill, did we meet? I was judging that day wearing those long sleeved polyester shirts they had us wear.
There is the cobalt thread I noted that cobalt is quite rare. I have seen only around a dozen 964 coupes in the color over 20 years of looking. Most are here. |

All good, no toe stepping at all (anything to keep the 964 conversation going because my wife definitely doesn't want to talk about them...)

I was judging that day wearing those long sleeved polyester shirts they had us wear.
There is the cobalt thread I noted that cobalt is quite rare. I have seen only around a dozen 964 coupes in the color over 20 years of looking. Most are here. That is a great list and helpful. I know most of these but not all. It might be more helpful if you can point out which are coupes, cabs, turbos etc. There are two other 94 turbos in cobalt but each has a different interior. Did any of these swap owners to other listers or are they all still owners?

Another great weekend of driving! Was fun trying to keep this guy in my sights. Love it when the guys with the newer cars come up to you during drive breaks and ask what’s been done to the engine...

Some additional sightings while out this weekend:
Followed this guy off the highway into town. We briefly talked at a light. It’s a one owner 1979 Turbo.... original owner! Amazing https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...e95c0a848.jpeg Then I saw my first new BMW grill.... what a mistake, and will be fun watching them minimize the look in the next couple of years. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...e079a4250.jpeg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...ac67c3602.jpeg |
Yeah, pretty much guarantees that I won't ever own a post-f80 M3, or really post-e90.....What were the designers thinking?

Great rainy day drive with my oldest. He’s getting better at looking though the turns and being smoother on throttle. The car feels so responsive, I can feel every little input he makes. His days at home are numbered so I’m enjoying these drives!

By coincidence the same "comparison" leapt out at me in a parking lot yesterday. I know it's comparing a grand tourer with a sports car but my god they have got the aesthetics badly wrong. Chacun a son gout I suppose. |
Another awesome week full of driving this beast. Jumps to life every time and is just so rewarding to drive. Also getting so many smiles from other people in the road. Caught a woman behind me filming my spoiler going up and down in traffic and just laughing her arse off. Too funny. 1990’s active aero lady! These cars are so awesome and we are so lucky.
Invited some neighbors to their first Pclub Saturday c&c. Both had passed my house for years watching me wash my car in the driveway (which nobody does anymore, lost tradition), then eventually each stopped at some point to talk cars. I listen to their needs and it was quite obviously they each needed a Porsche (easy right, who doesn’t). Pointed them to Mr. 996... They both found mint ones for insanely little money, and their lives are now changed forever (like looking back at your car after you park, every time like you’re in love). They both enjoyed meeting some of the local Porsche crew (such good people) and saw a couple of the insane cars in the area. We had a blast. I know these are just stupid cars, but if you use them in the right ways they really pay you back 10x over. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...8cf7d39d9.jpeg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...91de1fc7f.jpeg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...a6f33b6ca.jpeg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...6493b0e40.jpeg |
The only 918 I ever saw was in the south of France, with Dubai plates.
We seem to be on the same wavelength as I actually enjoy washing (well, spraying and buffing) my cars plural in the driveway. Sadly I am the only one in my neighborhood with his own lawnmower. 2 tasks which with a beginning, middle, and satisfying end compare favorably to only a few human activities, none of them involving a day job. Have so enjoyed your posts over my almost 10 year ownership experience (bill of sale dated 11/11/11!). So kudos, udo. |
Thanks for putting up with me for all these years!
The 918 belongs to Mr. Ingram, it's the only one painted that shade of purple, his wife's favorite color. The things we do for our wives. Also matches his 993 Turbo S! Your bill of sale date is so freakin' cool. I see you're from DC, maybe there's an opportunity one day to meet in the middle one day? It's been awhile since I've been to the Skyline Drive area (my first roadtrip in a 964)... I think a couple other RLers live in the Charlottesville area. |
Udo, on a 1-10 scale, how good is your paint, because it looks fantastic in photos.
|
The car lived a pretty pampered life prior to my ownership and had a couple excellent custodians like RLers Nathan and Rudy. I couldn’t believe how nice it looked when it rolled off the truck from Rudy’s, even the cat heat shield was polished!
My prior slate grey 64 hid scratches well but had lots of love marks under the garage lights. 3 years later this one still looks mint, but I’ve been adding my fair share of tiny rock chips here and there (that’s to be expected after thousands and thousands of road trip miles), but overall the paint looks mint and hardly has any love mark scratches. Have been using a lawn blower to dry the car, which has really helped minimize the scratches. It looks mega for a 30 year old sports car that is driven weekly as intended. To answer your question: 9 all around, with a couple chips here and there. I’m probably giving it a point or two extra as I don’t expect perfection, otherwise I wouldn’t drive it like I do, as much as I do. Cobalt (or many RLer with a concourse eye) wouldn’t be impressed, but anyone off the street who think it looks fantastic. |
Speaking of rock chips, probably added a couple today as certain sections where a bit dirty, but had to keep the hammer down to stay up with this group.
Had a fantastic Thursday afternoon run with an out of town visitor. RLer JamesP PM’d last week to say he was passing through the area, so of course we had to get the Cobalt brothers together. He has the only 2010 Cobalt Blue 997.2 GT3! Epic. The want is high! They would look so good in the garage together... I’m also really falling for the new style Caymans, and they are still the right size for the roads I love to drive on. The G. Blue one had no problem keeping up while still running through its break-in miles and just looked so menacing in my rear view mirror. GTS 4.0, mit stick. Before anyone asks, yes the GT3 is officially Cobalt, and yes the two cars looked slightly different. https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...fef70ba0e.jpeg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...a810db3fb.jpeg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...6a64cb470.jpeg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...f10ce7a1a.jpeg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...3ed19aa05.jpeg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...ab4cbae93.jpeg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...67e1b06d0.jpeg |
Looks like fun. Snow is finally gone so my turbo comes out of hibernation tomorrow. I can't wait. I figured that was PTS GT3. Porsche stopped painting cobalt and I was told no more PTS for some reason.
BTW the 981 Caymans are a blast and easily modifiable to get some serious performance out of them without the issues the 718's are having. They also sound great with a cobb tune and factory sport exhaust. I just heard the 4.0L 718's are on production hold due to a safety issue. My son wanted a 964 but ended up with a 981 cayman S and couldn't be happier. He was like me when I was that age and needs to drive that car everywhere. He has put 5k miles on it since last fall but has only 2 mile commute to work. I find the Boxster GTS to be a great ride and the only drop top I ever owned. It is the closest Porsche to a 964 I have owned. It has awful blind spots with the roof up so I only drive it on nice days but I am thinking it is time for someone else to enjoy it. |

Changing topics, is it your car that pops up occasionally in montages in Rennthusiast’s videos? |
I’m cycling/driving in the Roanoke area more lately, so will give you a heads up next time I head north. Amazing roads.
Yeah, I smile every time I see my car pop up in one of his videos. Great guy, and another positive force for the Porsche community. We totally converted him from BMWs to Aircooled. |
Thanks to 911Jetta for letting me know about he drive yesterday. It is surprising to see just how different the two colours look when next to each other. The 964 is a much deeper blue. The gentian blue Cayman is yet another very nice Porsche blue.
Always good to see the youngsters point at Porsches from five decades (80s, 90s, 00s, 10s, 20s) as we rolled around the corner on a Thursday afternoon. |
Yesterday ended up being a 12 hour Porsche day. Loved every second of it. Starting with a morning group drive to Cars & Coffee, a quick shop tour, lunch and then an extended version of my "North Loop", it couldn't have been more fun. We ran into heavy rain mid loop, but kept on going strong. The main benefit was that it was such **** weather that it kept everyone off the road so we went for long stretches without seeing anyone. The way this car is set up and communicates is just amazing. The car communicates everything, and I knew where I was in the traction circle all the time. Everything just feels so planted, in that 911 way. Even in heavy rain I had lots of 911 traction coming out of corners, and the front end really stuck too. That really surprised me as I thought I would get more understeer going in. I kept thinking about engine threads I've seen here with mega power and wondered if I would really want much more on tight roads (2 and 3 gear), or if it would just get me into trouble sooner and upset the cars balance? Regardless, hats off to Conti Extremes DWs tires, awesome in the dry and now I can confirm in heavy rain too (they are quite too).
Picture time! I only wish I could have gotten some rainy drive bys. The cars screaming past with water vortexes streaming behind the car... https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...3c7ddfb8b4.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...3a31d2ddfc.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...4b6bdc9595.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...f1c6d42297.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...31efe29e7b.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...02309fbe0e.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...66191fb27b.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...e7dcd330c9.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...93d72206eb.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...678440d465.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...19a31e3e95.jpg |

been lurking & coming back to this thread .... for the comraderie & pictures. it's been a few months since posts above, & I'm sure you guys are enjoying your cars.
Mostly PCA tour driving up here in&around Annapolis & Baltimore with the Chesapeake region. This year (after such a solitary 2020 pandemic season) my wife & I have been grabbing two sets of keys for drives lately. She usually picks the 964, so I've been in the Aqua 7.2/3. Super fun to play around with each other on the roads. I will never get enough seat time looking at a 964 rolling down the road (especially with my wife driving it!!). Then I blip the throttle in the Mezger & I'm really in heaven. :D Safe travels to you all. Enjoy the ride!! =Steve |
Hello everyone, it's been awhile...
I'm sure most of you watched my recent auction on BAT, and my intention with this post is to definitely not rehash it here. This is an awesome 964 and I think everyone is overthinking this. I've owned a 964 for almost 20 years and I just love them, but that's preaching to the choir here as you already know all the good things about these cars. I purchased this '91 Cobalt Blue car from Rudy and it was immaculate when it came off the truck. It's the first time I've bought a car over the phone, and it was a five minute conversation at that. He purchased it from Nathan Mertz (Sales ad: CV Valley Luxury Cars). Fantastic car! The BAT auction is formulaic by design and really doesn't tell you much about the car, so I've put together a more comprehensive listing of the car here: https://sites.google.com/view/cobaltblue964?usp=sharing Keep in mind you also buy the seller, so please also review my this thread and other posts to get an even better understand of the car and it's owner. I work in the automotive industry and it's been only been serviced at the best area shops. So the BAT auction didn't work... but that doesn't change the fact that I have a super awesome Cobalt Blue 964 sitting in a warehouse, ready for it's next owner to enjoy. https://sites.google.com/view/cobaltblue964?usp=sharing |
Good luck - sorry to see you selling it :(
|
Sorry to see you're selling it, and that BaT didn't work out. Tough/weird crowd there, and their formulaic write-ups always bug me (they all sound the same).
|
Sad to see you selling the car, loved following along here.
GLWS |
getting out of porsches all together?
|
Truthfully I find BaT nauseating, sorry to hear it did not work out. Good luck with the sale, someone is going to get a fantastic car. Also, I miss seeing your murals+964 posts.
|
BAT buyers are soooooo strange in what they pay up for. In the two weeks prior to your car not meeting reserve, an exceptionally trashed white C2 sold for $94k and it was rusty and appeared to be flood damaged. An absolute wreck of a car. Your beautiful example came close to making me sell mine and/or just buy yours and add it to the quiver...
Keeping it is not a bad problem! Enjoy it while you have it! |
I appreciate the comments, there's always a core group of solid guys on this forum.
I'm definitely not getting out of Porsches, I'm in the automotive sector and work daily with Porsche's mid engine legends (550, 904, 906, 918, CGT). Eventually my fascination with these cars has led me to want branch out from the 911. The simple reason I'm selling is I just wanted to try something new after almost 20 years of 964s, but it had to be as good or better than a 964. Nothing interested me for the longest time, then I watched a GT4 YouTube video, then another, and another. (Warning: Don't start watching them) It immediately became clear that was my next chapter. It's a modern car with the ethos of an old 911 in some ways, and continues my Porsche journey. I haven't changed for any bad reason, just something new. I thought people would jump at the chance to own this 964, at least that's the impression when ever I take it to any event. Plus we all know how hard it is to find a good 964 in the first place and this thing is set up really, really well. My BAT experience definitely surprised me, especially since it's such a beautiful and solid car. Great past owners and always well taken car of. All good, but I would LOVE for the new owner of the stock Black 964 that sold on BAT to drive my car... crazy times =;> BTW, the mural picture taking tradition continues! Thanks everyone |
The fact that your car hasn't sold at the asking or more is surprising. I have seen people overpay for far lesser cars. Makes no sense to me.
|
@911Jetta Cayman GT4's are absolute dream cars to play with and will become a cult classic far beyond the enthusiasm that exists for them today. A friend recently took delivery of his newest GT4 in the RS version and it is fantastically turned out. What a blast to drive. Another friend has his GT4 in Scottsdale and has put almost 30,000 exclusively track miles on it!
I'm not alone in this group to have significant interest in your car and am pleased to hear that you are continuing to play with Porsches! This one has to satisfy my need for a blue sports car - for the time being... I get it! https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...2b684e32e8.png  |

@928 GT R Thanks. Your Turbo looks fantastic, what a good blue. A beast of a car!

Glad to hear you’re not leaving the fold entirely!
I know all too well how amazing some of the Porsche mid engine platforms can be. For me the first gen Spyder is the Goldilocks for street use. Just the right amount of power, handling and capabilities with a shocking level of feedback and driver engagement. Having said that I love the 964 equally as much for some of the same and some different reasons that we all know. Ideally keep the 964, set some cash aside and buy the GT4. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...c99635a4f.jpeg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...fc7e7b13e.jpeg |
I agree with Spyder_2011. I’ve a 2011 Spyder and a 964 (which I’ve owned for 25 years).
The 1st Porsche I had the opportunity to drive was a new 1998 Boxster my buddy had just purchased. I fell in love with his car on that drive and, because of that drive in a Porsche, bought the 964 six months later. Purchasing the Spyder 4 years ago (almost on a whim, I hadn’t planned to buy a car that day) I wondered if my interest in my old 964 would wain. Never happened. If anything, I’ve grown to appreciate the 964 all the more. They get under your skin. I’m sure you’ll love the GT4, but if you can manage, keep both! |
Nice to see some old timers back. I agree on the platform. My 981 Boxster GTSM and my sons 981 Cayman SM converting to GT4 look are great cars and are the closest modern experience to the older 964's. My son nearly swapped his Cayman S for a sapphire GT4 but he has so much into his car and is usually faster on track with it than most GT4 drivers. He still wants an old air-cooled but for now has to borrow mine.
I really wanted a spyder instead of the boxster but it is a fun enough car and my wife won't deal with the Spyders top. :crying: I have a few friends with the new GT4RS's. An amazing car but not something I would want to daily. I passed on a 904 back in 1983 for $12k. It was a boatload of money for a used car back then and I had no idea what to do with it. Oh well. |

I remember this car at Rudy's...a steal of a deal for a really amazing example.

Hi Udo - Sorry to hear you're selling it but glad you're planning on getting another Porsche! I keep thinking about selling mine after 21 years of ownership as I don't drive it as much as I should, but the kids always manage to convince me out of it!!

Andy!
Thanks for the message. I still remember reaching out to you all those years ago. Through the power of Rennlist, I saw that Andy lived in Paris at the time and I reached out during a trip to see if he would be interesting in meeting for a beer. We hit it off and it's the first time I ever spoke to someone just about 964s for over an hour. He promptly offered to take me to visit Le Mans the following weekend. This is what I mean about community! I would say definitely keep it! https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...cf875e0da0.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...babfe68bd6.jpg |
Hi Udo - I remember very clearly going to the Classic Le Mans with you for the first time in 2010 just after Thomas was born. That was a fun day! I've been going back every couple of years since and will be taking him for the first time next month! It's a long way from Bologna though!!

Just saw this on a FB group. Looks like it sold. ;( |
I can't believe it didn't get snapped up immediately. Congrats Udo. GL with the GT4. Maybe see you at VIR one day.
