Exclamation Rust.............

The small bubbles are rust/corrosion spots.
I did my left side from the windshield once last year, with some paint, but it did'nt last long. Now I bring it to the body repair shop in January, We have a Body repair shop at the place where I work.

I will remove the window, and repair the spots very well, then a new seal and the window back in.

For now, I protected the spots with some zinc spray for worser damage.

I hate this kind of little things on a car.

Exclamation rust........

The thing is.... there was already a repair for warranty from Porsche. This did'nt last long either.
So many water comes from under the seal, wich holds the water permanent under there, when you lift the seal, a lot will flow away.......... Bad contstruction.

I will repaint the window area so this will be ok for the next couple of years.

Next picture is from the rear window. Here everything is fine on both sides. No rust here.

Default rear window...

And here is the other side. This side is fine too!

When the car is in the body repair shop, and the work is going on, I will post some pictures of the spots.

ArjanB, Just got my Track car back for the same repair for the second time!. I actually bought it knowing if I wanted it to be be as nice as the rest of the car (i did) it had to be done. But got $500. off the acking price. Done 1st last year, and had to kick in apppx. another $150 for a new windshield.
Well would'nt you know the next Track event something wacked the windshield(passengers side) and put a "U" shaped crack in it.
Over last winter I noticed the bubbles were back Lucky the shop honored the repair And the windshield! This time he cut the offending piece out (about 4" worth), & replaced. since the windsheild was cracked he asked for $75. to help cover the cost of that and a new rubber seal. Fair enough, and got a 2 year warrantee
Nice to deal w/ a good shop.
Hope yours goes as smoothly.
Seasons Greetings
Bill

Dang, guys. You're scaring me. I though the modern Porsche was immune from rust. Do either of you live close to the Ocean, I guess the salt air could cause that.

Please say you live across the street from the ocean.

It did spend about 5 years in Fla. Then NY/NJ before I got it here in CT, a little over 2-years ago. All Coastal States, for what ever it's worth.
It's defininitly something to look closely for.

Yep, add me to the repaired once under warranty rust at the base of the windshield, now it's back again, club.

Also, like Arjan, I only have it one place--on the driver's side. Rear window and right side of the windshield are fine.

I know as soon as I have it fixed, some piece of sh** some a** has dumped on the freeway will hit my windshield, and it will need to be removed again for replacement.

Mine is on John's 964 site, full story.
you can also see the work done on my site:-

It isn't pretty really. and I'm nowhere near the sea, Adrian seems to think it's poor replacement windscreen jobs, it sounds plausable given that's where most of these cars have gone rusty......

Mr Seifert, No, I live near the German border, 120 Miles away from the sea.
The car came in November 2001 to The Netherlands after it was all the 9,5 years in the warm and dry Italy............ Note: This is the 2nd time the repair has to be done...........

The problem is, rain water stays in those corners under the seal, so when you lift the seal, water will come out, even after 2 weeks not raining............

Also the never rain states, where Randall lives in California is not a exeption. All cars will rust, the one faster then the other.

It seems it is an inbred sickness of the 964. I have seen cars that have never seen rain get rust there with under 20K kms on them.
Like the SCs which all seem to get rust at the top of the driver's side lockposts.
(btw I am usually on the 951 board).
Merry Christmas!

George, if it makes you (us?) feel any better, 993s have the rust-at-base-of-windshield problem, too.

Thanks George,

Randall, yes I saw a few of the 993's with rust too, this in the area's on the roof under the seal and on the a-pillars left and right under te seal...............

If the rest of the body stays in the excellent shape it is now, I don't mind too much about this.......
