Who can do a voting poll thread similar to thew one that asked for interior colours. That way we could get a feel for percentage of owners.

Perhaps have model year with vote for windscreen pillar
rust found or no rust problem.

This is a known problem on the 993; Porsche had a TSB out on it. They redesigned the seal in 96, I think, to address the problem. My (former) 95 Carrera 4 developed rust bubbles front and back, and the dealer repaired it under warranty. It was, however, a Certified car at the time.

If the rust is removed and you tread the spots well with a primer, rust will not show up again. Most of the time the warranty rapairs will be done fast, fast fast..... you know.

Default Question

Arjan:

Are they spraying rust preventative on the back side of the welds where the new steel is welded in? I think the welding will burn off the corrosion coatings, and there is some risk that you will have rust appear on the side you cannot see for a long time.

I have always tried to spray corrosion coatings on both sides of any repair, and will use non-welding methods where that is not practical.

Just curious. You have me looking very closely at my 964, but I don't have any trace of blisters yet.

Great post.

SPRINGER...... If you may have missed, they colleages from the Body repair shop made a big joke about the welding. Ther was no hole rusted thru the body....... I was lucky, only corrosion on both windows was the case. They tried to **** me off, and it worked

Otherwise, yes, you have to protect the welding spot with a spray or repaint that spot what is burned from welding. Most people forget that with great causes for later.

Not only is it a common problem on the 993.
But in UK, if the yearly body checks have not been stamped by authorised OPC, then in my case, PCGB would not repair this under the 10yr warranty.

Talking Last pic for this topic

Tomorrow I have to install a few things from the interior back where they belong, wax the car, and here we go for the possible next project [I hope it will take a while]

May be in the future I will repaint the sides of the body, and the front and rear bumper because of stone chips. For now...I spent too much on the car for this one year.

I hope you guys enjoyed the topic a little.

Nice weekend.

And remenber, The rust is not alsway visible, please check very carefully.
The front window has rust damage then the rear one, at least in my case.
