Default Gas struts on fibreglass tail?

Hi guys, my car is currently in getting the tail sorted out as it didn't fit well and one thing the installer brought up was the gas struts are too strong because it is much lighter than the original lid. I'm quite happy to go without and just get a fibreglass prop or something made but I just wanted to see other people's views and experience. Does anyone run a fibreglass lid and retain the struts? Cheers!

I removed one of the struts for my ducktail, works great and just the right pressure.

Yeah I was actually thinking use only 1... the tail was sitting high on one side at the hinge and he claimed this is because one side is working better than the other. I'll have a play with it when I get it back anyway.

I'm using a pair of old semi worn out struts. They have just enough "oomph" to raise the lid when the release is pulled.

So I got my car back yesterday from getting the tail repaired. I either need one worn out strut (as my worn out one isn't quite strong enough to lift the lid) or I need to do away with them and find some kind of manual stick to hold the lid up. Any suggestions on where to find such item?

Rothsports. And Sleepers Speed shop both make prop kits for the frunk. Im sure they could be adapted for the rear deck lid.

Or ask around for "take off" struts. Of course it would depend on how *worn out* the old ones are. I think you're right, a single worn strut won't be strong enough. A single new strut (or mismatched pair) could possibly tweak the fiberglass lid. My existing pair would not hold the stock engine cover up but support the fiberglass ducktail just fine.

Coincidence , I am getting ready for a fibre glass tail and lid too, I was thinking how to do it, I have 2 shot dampers,
I have the props stand on my carbon front lid, was wondering where the same could fit on the rear lid.
Buy the way was the fit of the tail very difficult , what style did you chose, could you post a picture ?
Cheers

hi guys, yeah I tried it with both the good and bad strut. The bad one couldn't lift it and the good one was far too strong would probably damage the tail. I'm going with a prop once I find one. I got a fibreglass whale tail, unsure of brand. The shop had a lot of trouble fitting it but I'm sure in hindsight it would be pretty easy doing it again. I'll take some photos when I get home. Overall fit is pretty good.
