Congrats on the new to you C2 Tip I have a 91 C2 Tip Coupe also.
To me it was more of a challenge and fun
to figure out the Tip to get the most out of it than to drive a manual did that my whole life I don’t miss the clutch at all.
I usually let the computer handle the upshifts and a combo of the manual gate and throttle application for the down shifts

This got me interested as the acceleration i felt was good in my car, so i took mine out for a drive today and in "D" if you accelerated from a stop hard it went into first gear. FYI

If you desire a lot more power then search for TPC Supercharger for bolt-on 100+hp. I recall a few Tip owners went down this slipper slope.

I enjoy driving mine in traffic and I have time to enjoy my cup of coffee.

Love my 90 tip. Upgraded the suspension, steering wheel, headlights, added front splitter, cat converter bypass etc. Someone saw it at work today and offered to buy it. The answer is still NO!

Spot on! Honestly love my 964 targa tip. However I do need my 993s when I'm looking to get after it!

Seriously though, you can pretty much do all the same mods to a Tip car that you can with a MT car. Remove all the weight you want (rear seats, carpet, sound insulation, rear wiper, power windows, door cards, stereo, A/C etc...... Install a full race suspension and bigger brakes...... All the engine mods that your local government will allow free flowing intake and exhaust, bore to 3.8, new chip etc... Anything is possible, just send money.

But a Tip will always be what. 30-60 pounds heavier than an identical MT? And a TIP will always be 1 second or so slower 0-60 than a MT. But will YOU be slower in a Tip? Depends on how and where you drive and your skills. TBH I would probably be faster on a track in a Tip than in a MT, especially one that requires a lot of shifting. In AX I think I would be faster in a MT because usually the only shift is 1 to 2 and then the MT responds a bit quicker than the Tip, until I learn to drive my Tip better.

What do you want? A loud, light weight fun track car, then start wtih a MT..... or a cool classic sports car that with all the luxuries of a modern auto like PS, PW, CC, AC, OBC etc... then start with a Tip.

The biggest issue I have had with the Tip was actually finding one in a Coupe. Plenty avail in cabs but in my search they seemed to be pretty rare in a coupe.

Good luck and keep us posted.
I noticed this as well. I have a 93 Tiptronic coupe, but there seem to be many more cabs. I can’t find the production stats but among coupes it seems easier to find the manual.

I had read somewhere only 15% of Tip cars were Coupes. I wish I knew where I read it so I could vouch to the accuracy of that.
