Loose CV Boot Clamp and Driveshaft Axle Slack
My inner boot for my right rear axle is leaking grease. There are no rips in the boot but the large clamp is a little loose. The surrounding area has been somewhat splattered by the grease but it doesn't look too bad. Would you advise me to replace the clamp or do I need to have the boots repacked with grease? If it's the latter, I will go ahead and have all the boots replaced and repacked on both sides (left/right, inner/outer). Best place to get the clamps?
There also is some slight play in the axle when I try to pull it in and out of the transmission. There is no play on the other side:
Is this normal? I have been experiencing drivetrain vibration at 6K rpms.

You could just try using a pair of Otiker (spelling?) clamp pliers on it and see if continues to seep. Doesn't look like too much spun out. If so, could be a rip under the clamp.
If you end up having them repacked, PM me, I know a shop here locally in SoCal (its in OC) that ALL they do is rebuild CVs that has same day service and really good pricing, low enough that you will say "damn, I'll pay that vs. deal with the MESS that repacking CVs entails". I usually supply the boots to them. They've done both my air cooled cars. Pulling the CV isn't hard. They will also replace worn components if needed.

Achtung964,
I have same and did a video clip somewhere back in my threads 1-2 years back. Believe I found reference to the lateral shift in WSM and noted as - type of "lash" ...
Spyerx,
"Pulling CV", are you referring to walking in your half axles to "a guy in OC"? I did all mine at the bench few summers ago and the outer CV cannot be removed to my knowledge and I just flushed and re-packed/booted the outer.... Obviously, bench approach means off/on 339ft lbs of torque ...

Yes. Pulling the axles. As you know it's a stupid messy job.

The bolts were pretty tight when I unbolted them. On that note, there seems to be some discrepancy behind how tight these should be bolted. My car is a '93 C2 and requires a 8mm allen head socket to remove. Should I torque it to 60lbs or 32lbs? Also, should I apply any grease when mating the axle to the transmission? If so, what should I use? Thanks.

An 8mm allen head is an M10 bolt, which is correct for C2 and will be 60ftlbs. C4 uses M8 bolts and 32ftlbs. Not sure what you mean by grease when mating the axle, but the only grease needed is inside the boot.
Some in/out play is normal, it's the twisting play that indicates wear.
It doesn't look like much grease has squirted out so I wouldn't worry. You'll want CV pliers to pinch the clamp tighter.

I did my C2 at 60ft lbs. Nick is correct.
