Default 964 door lock spins freely and comes out

Hi all,

I've searched around, but haven't found my issue here. The passenger side door lock spins 360 degrees without locking or unlocking from the exterior and the tumbler (cylinder?) can be withdrawn when the key is in. For the first 10 months of ownership it wasn't a big deal since I enter and exit the vehicle on the drivers side, but more recently the passenger side will not lock and does not allow the drivers side to lock either from the center console button or the key on the drivers side. The alarm sets when I try to lock it from the outside on the drivers side and will sound if I then open the door, but I'm not liking leaving the car unlocked when I'm out.

I made a video, but the file is too big to upload here and it looks mostly like this guys:

Any guesses on where to start with this?

Thanks!

Well you'd need to pull the door handle for best ease of access. I'd wager the set screw on the tumbler came off somehow, yet if the lock still will engage/disengage the lever is still attached inside the door.

This happened on my 89. Screw on Back of tumbler came loose. Easy job but a pain as you have to pull the door handle apart to do it right. Hopefully the bits are in the door still.

Once repaired, treat your self to Bergvill's remote. Save your key, lock, and easy to install.

Do you know what the specs are for that screw or the part number, in case I can't find it in the door?

Thanks!

I've read elsewhere it was a M3.5x.6 x20mm. When I get home I'll try to find an extra I have (may have) to get specific measurements. I did get replacements at Home Depot when I lost one during handle restoration.

Looks like the screw is an M4x10 (0.7 pitch) Phillips with a flat countersunk head.

probably a $12 part from Porsche. It's small, and it gets loose (fine threads), get a magnet tool finder up in the door seam at the bottom.

Put a dab of blue loctite on it when reinstalling.

Been there done that. Make sure you use Locktite so it doesnt happen again.
