Default 964 noise/ help diagnosing

Hi guys,
My car sounds awful. The noise developed over the past 5 drives or so and it sounds related to the exhaust. When I rev, the noise sounds distinctly exhaust related, but maybe this is wishful thinking. I need to get the car in the air and pull / inspect the exhaust system. Was hoping for opinions before I did this, since if engine related, it'll go to my Indy. If exhaust, it'll be an FVD system that I've been wanting to install anyway.

I know it's not an exact science, but opinions are appreciated. Thanks guys.

Stop driving that car and get it to a shop. Sounds mechanical on passenger side.

Have it towed.

Later in video it does have a hint of a very bad exhaust leak.

Split secondary?

You should be able to see the cracks where the welds are. I stuck my cellphone camera under the car and snap couple of pictures. Could see them right away.

+1 on towing it to a shop.

Thanks!

Thanks guys. Another video from start up:

I didn't get it in this video, but at rev over 2000 or so, the noise abates. I'm thinking I'll pull the exhaust and go from there.

Well, after getting her in the air and taking a better look, my spirits are up! Split secondary, if you can even call it that.

I wonder if there is too much pressure from removing the cat/ removing the primary? Regardless, I'm incredibly relieved.

Whoa! That's properly blown! I don't think it's fixable

Thanks!

Whenever you think the worst and find an easy fix you breathe a sigh of relief. Instead of spending God knows what on engine work, now you can feel happy spending money on any exhaust system you want. Get something that eliminates the secondary all together. Less weight and opens up that entire rear passenger side. I have the fabspeed Maxflow dual outlet and euro cat.

When I was doing research on exhaust setups I came up with a few reports of split secondary's on cars with cat + Primary removed. a couple of people speculated on why but I'm not sure a definitive answer was found.

Cheapest option is just to pull the secondary and install a g-pipe. I got mine for about $125.

I had split 3 of them over time and reported back a long time ago.
It can be properly welded back with reinforcement by someone who does stainless steel welding or replace by another used muffler.
Eventually I had moved on to a Billy Boat set up wit different headers and muffler and ended the occasional drama.
It only happened after having some serious fun with my R foot, so at least we know the OP can properly drive an Air cooled 911!
Cheers!!

Thanks! Was thinking of this one as a temporary solution that will get me through summer driving. This means I'll have a cat by-pass, primary and secondary by-pass. Is this what you're running and if so, how's the sound/ performance? Free flowing, so assume loud as ^**#!

This is cool but you basically can't leave or come home past bedtime or your neighbors will burn your garage down. " If you are not on it you can live with it" We are always on it. Lol. Fine line between cool and obnoxious.

Funny you say that! After things are properly warmed up, I definitely don't shy off the throttle. Seems to help sort things out, calibrate the motor and blow off any carbon. At least that's what it feel like!

So, I think I'm dialed in on full system. Headers, no heat, sport (or no) cats, and a single outlet. I sort of like the simplicity of the single port on my 3.6.

As a 3.6 car, do you guys think I should have a sport cat/ cats for back pressure?

Thanks!
