Default Odo gear

I have a 1985 Porsche 944 and my odometer stopped working. I got it all apart and found out the odometer gear is broke. Can anyone tell me where I can get the odometer gear?

Lots of places likely have them. Here is one option.

I would give Steve a call and make sure you are getting the right one.

If your car is a 85.5 we have a tech article on replacement:

I just replaced the odo gear on my '88 951. not too bad of a job - just don't drink too much coffee before tacking the intricate parts.
Good video here

+1 on odometergears.com, bought from them for many different cars. Make sure you order the correct tooth count. BTW, some vendors sell only one version of gear and then claim that it's for all 944s, but there are 2 different tooth counts possible, and if you get the wrong one then your odometer won't be accurate.

Just two types for the 944...basically changes with the dash change on the 85.5+ cars.

I'm sorry Jason I wasn't calling you out, but there are in fact 2 types for the late (1985.5+) 944.

There is a 20x21 tooth gear and a 20x22 tooth gear. You and many others sell only the 20x21 gear but I've already had 3 944s with the 20x22 gear, two '87 turbos and an '87 NA.

When I found this out, I had just bought two 20x21 gears from another vendor, and had installed one into my NA and noticed that the odometer was off by a few percent (4.5%). I dug through the forums and found out about the 20x22 gear. Go ahead and search, many others have the 20x22 gears.

The other vendor ignored my complaints and even my requests to supply the 20x22 gear, I guess they are making money just fine by making only one gear and marketing it as "fits all."

I always prefer patronizing forum sponsors but odometergears.com is the only place in the USA that sells the 20x22 gear right now. I put put their gear into my odometer and according to GPS my odometer is 100% accurate in a 56.4 mile trip (I have factory 16" phonies and original size 205/225 tires).

We also stock a 22 tooth gear. I'll have to refresh my memory on all of this quite frankly.

Ok, I've updated our listing to show both so hopefully we can help either way. Both in stock. Thanks for pointing out that issue as sometimes that's the only way we catch stuff like this.

Make sure you blow out the gearing and take it all apart and clean it thoroughly while you are there as any little bits of the old crumbled odo gear will lodge in between the tumblers and you'll have to rip it apart again.
