- Are you building a 16V turbo or 8V?
- Is your goal to build a 968 turbo replica (including the use of the 951 AFM)?
- If 16V do you want to use the 968 DME?
- If 8V do you have access to a 951 DME/KLR/wiring harness...?
- How much time do you want to spend tuning vs. Plug-and-go?
- Any unique requirements you want to add?
Obviously there is no simple answer or a unique solution. It all depends on your requirements and long term goal.

8v but not an AFM no, although a 100% replica would be great no point sticking to that 100%.
as much plug and play as possible but any project like this isn't going to be that simple ;-)
VEMS looks a good alternative.

Mine was that simple. When I build my 3 liter, I used my 86 DME/KLR with Vitesse Chipboard and MAF, and the motor started up and drove with perfect street manners right out of the box. The MAF-based system accommodates variations among custom motors without the need to remap the whole thing. Over time, I adjusted the fuel and spark with the piggyback to maximize my particular motor safely, but the Vitesse system will have you up and running with factory smooth manners on day one...

The VEMS unit seems plug and play from a wiring perspective albeit will need some fine tuning on the maps etc.

If you are building an 8 valve motor, then using a 951 engine wiring harness would seem a better match anyway, even if you go with VEMS, since it's essentially a big 951 motor. A 968 harness would have unused connectors when mated to an 8 valve motor, unlike the 951 harness. The engine harness is one big unit that is fairly easy to remove/replace with the motor out. No "wiring" per se, unless you replace/refresh connectors, etc. Put another way, I wouldn't let your choice of engine wiring harness dictate which engine management system you use...

There's also a PnP megasquirt for 16v. But VEMS will have a better tune preloaded and is more powerful than the MS2 which I believe the MSPnP offering is based on.
