Ealokens Porshe 951 -> engine has started
5 Attachment(s)
Hi, first i want to say thanks for all the help and good spirit in this forum :D
I have a 1986 951 that is getting a makeover. Specs: Vitesse stage 2 turbo 750cc injectors 40mm tial -WG 4" LR exhaust Yellow adjustable konis Turbo gearbox with LSD Bigger swaybars. This winter im installing: Emu ecu engine management system with a new engine harnes, as i dont like 30 year old cables. Weichers rollcage 8,5+10" azev a wheele 235/45-17 and 255/40-17 Toyo R888 |
Nice car.
How do you like the Vitesse Stage 2 turbo? How much boost do you run, and what rpm do you get full boost by? Does the boost decline close to redline? Got any dyno plots? |

Well, its a bit laggy and old, im planing a 3L16V with another turbo in about 2 years. But, i think getting rid of the old piggyback Vittesseracing ( wich is a SMT6), and installing a modern EMU Ecu will do a lot of respons. Meaby the car can to 800 km to 80 L of gasoline, now i have been doing 500 km to 80L. :banghead: |
Oh, I wouldn't have thought that turbo is laggy. How laggy exactly? I'm asking because I'm considering the vitesse stage 2 as a future upgrade for my car.
500km is about all I get out of tank as well...though I am a bit of a lead foot. |

500km is about all I get out of tank as well...though I am a bit of a lead foot. Trackday use was 300km on 80L So my engine is getting "washed" in fuel. |
I aim for 15:1 on cruise... but I don't have a cat. Even with one, 14-14.7 is still plenty safe. Better gas mileage than stock. I never measured the AFR on the cruise portion of the stock tune but I'd imagine it's a little fatter.
|
No cat here either.
First i need to make the new engine harness, and make my rear seat delete plug, mount my Stilo intercom and then, in january go to my tuner :) |
Your car should not run 10-11 AFRs while cruising. The software is configured to run 13.5-14.5:1 while cruising, and it uses closed loop.
Apparently there is something wrong with your setup, either the PiggiBack is tuned incorrectly, a bad ground (which is common) or a few more items to check. May be too late now, as you already pulled off the engine management. The kit on your car is roughly 10-12 years old. The turbo you have is very fast spooling, but the rich AFRs and possibly the boost control method are hurting spool. Good luck with your project.

Im taking the old out, i need a standalone. thanks :D With E85, race gas and/or water Methanol you can run more boost and make more power. |

Yes I replied to your email shortly after I received it. Your turbo will support 380-400rwhp with the proper octane. I recall you mentioned the car running 340-345rwhp on pump gas for the past 7-8 years or so.

Todays evening in the workshop, got my brackets welded by a friend.
Got my vibrodamping installed, and some pictures of later goodies. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...c804786636.jpg The bracket for my rollcage https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...c92a18b3e3.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...e958b4ba58.jpg Vibromats sound dampeing https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...39170f3319.jpg Aquasump sylinder https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...41f839e14b.jpg Stilo intercom central. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...84daea7464.jpg WRC stilo headset |

thanks, spent 3.5 hours on that, but i hope it will kill some sound. Was 90db in 130 km/h inside the car. |
wow thats actually pretty loud. 80db over 8 hrs is the limit exposure threshold at my work, and because sound is logarithmic 90 is freakin loud :)
For comparison the paint booth at my work which is running at this very moment....is 85 db inside. |
My buddies bought the stilo system for my 30th birthday, so they can call me when i drive :P
i hope to be down to 75-78db next year. |
Just finished the vibrodamping instalation.
Next is to make the rearseat delete insert. |
|
X-mas came early this year.
I just bought this, need some TLF. OZ Magnesium 9x17" from a Porsche 944 cup car. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...5314e9e89c.jpg |

Since im gettiing a rollcage, i have removed the rear seats, so i decided to build a rearseat delete.
https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...8df92ed5b.jpeg Tape layer one https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...268821656.jpeg take layer two https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...5842683b34.jpg Fiberglass layer one https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...f4fec1ad65.jpg GLassfiber + resin, two layers |
Now the "plug" is done. Next up is how to mount my helmet and intercom.

Looks good! I am also putting 17x8.5 in the front this summer with the same tire size. What is the ET of the wheels? Compared to the picture in the first post it seems that you have put on some spacers?
|
Thanks :)
Frist post is 7,5x17 And 8,5x17" I moved the rear wheels to the front. |

Thanks :) It was glass blasted, didnt do the upper cam cover since the camshaft still was inn. |
|
|
where did you get the carpet for your rear seat delete project?
|
I bought it from a high-fi shop, they use it on subwoofers and so, neede some cutting. then i used Motip Glue spray and some time, it`s not perfect. The carpet was about 20$
|
|
Ah. Simple and easy to find. I could not tell from the pics but it looked like stock carpet material.
|
I was lucky on the colour, And IT has some stretch, easy to work with :)
|
So one of the intake valves had a danmage, Got that replaced, he has some job left before i Can mount it back in.

Uppdate on the head.
Oem cfm before any job is about 200cfm. The blue graph is after the last "stage". Realt hoping this Will help the vitesse stage 2 turbo to make power from 3000rpm https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...9547f439ed.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...1e46c52582.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...900d693b89.jpg |
So there it is, 268 cfm
This is on standar valves And camshaft. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...64df96856c.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...70eb971c49.jpg |

The port is already to big, so no need to make it bigger, just "smarter" |

I find your numbers very hard to believe but see the chart. Your head flows nearly the same as Shawn's after major surgery and more than LR stage 3 which also has much work done. I spent over $5K to break 285 so just having a hard time buying these numbers with relatively little work. Of course, I am very keen to learn the magic. What were the lifts at stated flow?

Who said it was little work? the ports are been reshaped to a totally different approach, valveseats are altered, valves refaced, and a lot of stuf I dont know About 3000$ in work + parts. |
Sorry, did not see all of that information.

They are gas vector rings from Jeff Lemons, along with new ARP studs which I relocated to be proper on center. The factory ones are not properly centered. Tim is making me a set of 321 Stage 2/3 custom headers to go with my very fancy 321 single Billet header flange that Jeff made me. All of it is machined to within 0.001" tolerance for perfect gas expulsion.

A customer of ours was running the same Vitesse Stage 2 turbo as you have, using the Vitesse Sledge-Hammer big valve head, Vitesse Cam and V-MAF+. The 951 was lots of fun. See the Good luck with your project. |
Thanks John :)
Yes, Seat angles have ben changed / added. Next winter Im changing Turbo, piston, rods And cooling system. |

I too find this a bit fanciful but head flow figures vary like dynos plus most don't recalibrate which makes the figures look even more impressive. No doubt there is good work on this head but no way it's seeing a true 270cfm with stock valves and cam no matter what alterations to the seats/angles. Not to say it won't be a great car but we can't really compare each others numbers from various flow benches.
The intake has been redesigned ( smaaler inntake runner ) , i can post some pictures when i get it :) The car is going in the Dyno in about 4-6 weeks ( dynapack / rotortest ) |
What degree Mercury and lift?
Look forward to your results. :-) |

What is that, some kind of filler?
Are you going to mount the head on with that broken bolt for waterneck or is that some kind of pin and is there on purpose? |

I get it. Those are pita to get out..
Ports look strange to me. Can you take a closeups of the ports insides? Is this supposed to be aditionally smoothed out or this is the end result? |
Its hard as concrete, it is the end result, flow numbers ar within 0.1 cfm.
He has made a lot of changes in the port, to make the air use the capacity of the valves. |

I think 8.20 btg this year :) Sub 8 btg is possible without to many mods, I have done a few just under 8 minutes in my 951, 7.57 as best. My biggest mods were springs/dampers and chip at 14 psi (semi slicks like toyo r888 or michelin cup should have helped another 8-10 seconds). The fastest lap I have filmed in my 951 is this 8:01. youtube.com/watch?v=3GvljS2tEDI When you have done 130 laps, I think you will agree that biggest problem when you are trying to set a good lap time is traffic (when you drive on tourist days). I have had very good experience driving very late in the season, just before they close the track for the winter. The track can be almost empty then. Like this 8:07 lap I had in my bmw 325 diesel (my daily driver) late november last year: youtube.com/watch?v=u5QS2n66Vbs |

Clean the hell out of your pan. We glass bean stuff at my work and that stuff is hard to remove and hard to see. Personally I hate the stuff for that. You clean and clean, tack cloth, wash rinse and it still shows up on paint jobs.

im painting it silver. |
That will look nice.
I would hate to see what a couple of bits of glass would do to the inside of a motor. I washed my cam tower for a good hour performing rinse and repeat after blasting it. |

Baffle welded in, ring on the pickup.
Heat paint on the pan, And heat cover Where the exhaust is going under the pan. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...58b452e163.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...b13d0dc3b8.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...4ff64551d0.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...8dda0b6057.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...9a3cb07726.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...350b44059c.jpg |

I can't remember with the LR baffle do you still install the plastic portion in the pan or does the baffle replace that? |

Finaly the plan is back up, front subframe back up.
Heat wrap installed. Beautiful welding but that ring does exactly nothing and in worst case it becomes restriction.

Why? I did buy it at LR. With the bafle insert. |

If it was doing exactly nothing, how could it become a restriction....? I use the same ring....., it lowers the pickup point of suction approximately 1 inch lower in the pan to a source less likely to cause pump cavitation. The remaining cross section of the uncovered screen is several times that of the suction pipe. Sustained 6800 rpms on track with stable oil pressure proven. T |
How does it lowers the suction point by 1 inch if suction point is already tke lowest point of the pickup the only thing lower is the mesh Which has recessed space in oil pan. If that ring is welded just the right way it will touch the oil pan arround the recess in pan and actually seal the oil away from pickup.

You would recommend that you update the oil pan baffle to the later unit. It's not a bad idea also to use a new plastic piece in the oil pan rather then a 30 year old plastic unit. All mine have cracked on the mounts, don't know about yours.

If you follow the install directions (or safer yet, as with any custom add on, check and verify for yourself) and make sure the ring is flush with the top lip of the pickup there is plenty clearance for supply to the pump. Lindsey instructions say "skip weld" (they mean stitch) but this would defeat the purpose if there was not as good a seal as in the full weld in Ealoken's picture. Second possibility......fast laps/race wins may be due to the engine running without the resistance of that pesky oil.....;) T |
Here ya go......, 1.5 hour enduro, hot engine oil, severe track angles, race tire grip cornering forces, high revs, fast lap, race win.
With baffle kit. Do you really think this engine could live if the pickup tube feed was limited to less that it's maximum capacity...? Start is slow with full fuel tank (misjudged and started too heavy), start at 8.00. Sorry for the (?) OT Ealoken...carry on...., you’re doing a fine job, except those rubber rear sway bushings....:D T |

While I like your track video, Im not sure it was made possible by that piece of steel band :)
In my opinion in your instalation it is not choking oil supply so in essence it is doing exactly nothing. Good proof would be the cup series where they drove these cars much more to the limit compared to your driving yet I've never heard of #2 failure at those races and I know one of factory mechanics that wrenched on cup races personally. But hey thats only my opinion ymmv. I'll not use that or the baffle as there ia no proof that does anything even LR says on its web page they never dealt with 968 #2 failure. (The page where they offer crank air passages like those on later blocks.) |

Tires have made leaps and bounds since 944 Turbo Cup, I'd venture a bet that cornering forces are much higher today on race Hoosiers and modern suspension. Enough OT though, you go the route that you see best. T |

I think we all have opinions on this matter, based on what we think is happening in side the "ol' slosh bucket". Unless we have concrete evidence it's really up to the builder to determine what is best. And that person may be right or may be wrong. We take a gamble and hope for the best. Same goes for the crank scrapers. Personally I really like the vertical oil mounted scraper. On the fence about the horizontal. I suspect the 2nd best practice after dry sump is to extend the oil pan 25+ mm and also extend the pick up tube exactly the same distance. I don't know if it's best to just extend the "bowl" of the sump or extend the section where it mounts to the block (like the 928 pan spacers)... probably both are good remedies, but then you must consider is this a street/rally car or a track car. I would like dry sump but the cash ain't there. I thought about lowering the pan or bowl, but with lowering the suspension already on a street car, it would be suicide. Thought about widening the bowl.... making it really wide to hold 1 or 2 litre extra oil but unless you have baffles will this cause the oil to migrate away from the pick up when hard cornering? Possible. Probable. No idea. So, because of how I perceive what happen in the pan, I subscribe to the baffle/collar with full weld like Ealoken has done so beautifully. |
Since actual pickup point is lower than that collar, there is no point whatsoever to weld it on. It might look smart but in reality its like if you glue something on the side of the straw. It won't help you get any more milkshake out of a cup.
I'm flabergasted that people don't realise that. But since there was a video proof posted of this band racing like a pro, it must be what engines crave! https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...aa174cb70d.jpg |
Maybe that's where we see the function differently.
I totally agree with your statement about the straw. That's an excellent example. My perspective of the collar's function (when fully welded) is SIMPLY... depth!! In lower quantities of oil it'll suck less air. Hypothetical: You are in McD's drinking your favourite cold beverage with a straw. ... you're "Loving it";) as they advertise in Canada. But you get near the bottom of your drink. Do you push your straw to the bottom to suck the most from the bottom? I do. Would it help if you cut little slits an inch higher-? I doubt it, because like you say the volume or quantity is limited to the straw size. ANd when you reach the VERY BOTTOM, you'll HAVE BETTER VACUUM. -no vacuum leak! -------- anyway that's all I have to give on this subject, merely suggesting the strength of the collar is in it's ability to lower the point of suction versus the non fully welded, or no collar at all----------- Interested if you agree or not. Darn, now I want a chocolate shake!!:biggulp: |
But that's just it, there are no slits and suction point is already lower than where that band ends. Look at the picture I posted.
Btw: they have the same I'm loving it slogan here. :) |
Slow And steady. I hope to Get the ecu started this weekend.

Btw: they have the same I'm loving it slogan here. :) All I see is screen, something meant to keep the naughty bits out of a suction device. if the whole pickup tube was a mesh material, would it work well or would it *not* provide vacuum? -Anyway, maybe it doesn't matter, maybe I'm wrong  You build your engine in the way that pleases YOU. You do beautiful work with exceptional detail. I just realized 951and944S has basically the same argument as I do, didn't mean to rant, just thought I might be able to make a difference, but it's already been said. Hope you have a great weekend. WTF?? Bad stuff :(
|
How did it fail? Was it on the track or just street driving?
|
Idle in the garage, 3bar oil pressure.
|
Could this be from glass blasting oil pan? Did you change rings and bearings?

Never touched the bottom.

So, the plan is about this.
LA sleeves Wossner pistons H-conrods New turbo Oil channel fix in the engine block New oilpump New waterpump New And bigger oilcooler V-mount radiator/intercooler (bigger is better) And all the tiny Bolts, seals etc. Budget, 6000 $ https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...1407d528de.jpg |
Found the cause? What is the situation with other bearings? Is epoxy on intake ports still on there or was it sucked in on that cylinder?
|
You said earlier the upper balance shaft had a bad bearing. Do you think maybe there's a connection there? Maybe it was allowing oil that was supposed to go to the #2 rod to just escape back to the pan?

Scrape the nasty oil funk out of the hole around that broken stud and let it set in penetrating oil for a couple day, take a hammer and tap on it ever hour you can for those two days. Then clean the blocks deck and place down gorilla tap or something of the same to protect the block and use a really nice pair of vise grips and work the stud back and forth for as long as it takes to start working it loose. After it starts to loosen up you can work it out slowly by using a loosening and tightening method.

Rodbearing on 2 syl. i think if i had used the car more last year, it would have failed. |
So small uppdate, getting a bunch of parts cleaned and coocked this week, and getting the last stud out.
Voith here sold me a nice cranc, Ian at 944online sold me all i need for my block in pump`s, bearings, seals etc. H-profile rods are ordered, the engine block will get nikasil treatment and some new pistons. I also got an 71 degree thermostat. But the question, what turbo schould i choose? Holset HX super 35 ? Garret GT3576 sith Tial house? Borgwarner S-200sx or EFR? Im aiming at 450 whp and a good long powerband. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...4c30a3cf0c.jpg |

https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...937110f013.jpg Because i scould have done it,but there was no noice when i parked it. So it's a 6000$ i told you so ;) My buddies already pinched me in the side so no hard delinga. The plan was to build a new engine, but not so soon. |
about a year ago I was looking at a very good condition 951 to purchase.
This was a high mileage (250,000 kms) but absolutely well taken care of. The owner wanted way more money than I could consider paying. In conversation, when I asked about rod bearings he said his Porsche trained mechanic (the only mechanic the seller has ever brought his car to since he bought the car NEW) assured him "the engines are good to 400,000 kms before you replace bearings". |
for a mildly street driven car with regular changes of good (proper weight) oil i could believe that.
ive driven original-everything 300k+ mile 944s and they felt and sounded the same as a 70k example. |

You'll need to turn boost up to eleven to hit 500whp on 2.5 8v.

I hope his calculator is right :) |
Judging by bulds that were completed over the years here, that is very optimistic. Your builder better have experience with tuning 951 because it just won't handle boost as good as some other cars.
https://rennlist.com/forums/944-turb...running-9.html This is a good example of 8v build but it's 3L. |

Increasing overlap and trying to fill the resulting "compression leak" with an oversized turbo running lots of boost will be inefficient at best, and the engine will run quite bad at worst. Been there, done that. I ran a high duration camshaft up to 2.2 bar of boost with a GTX3076R without getting knock yet the engine was slower than with the stock cam at 1.2 bar of boost. The engine was just an inefficient heat pump. Only interesting detail I remember was popping out a valve stem seal or two because of the high boost.
My engine builder has built a lot of engines, and he calculates the engine before we dyno, and with that we know what it will make. My biggest conserne is all the doubters. Back in the day i had a 2.5l Volvo 4 syl it made 500 bhp on E85 and 1 bar boost. |
How many 8V 944 turbo engines has your engine builder made so far?

Disc is one partnumber And the more important part the pressureplate is Another. Pricey bits, easy 1300€ |
I have new pressure plate and it appears to be same. I think more grip comes from same pressure on less surface..
This is the one I have. If you have time, please measure the thickness of black spring steel, I wonder if it's the same thickness.. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...f0109486d4.jpg |

I will test fit when the car goes back in the workshop in february. ATM that place is held up by a Volvo 245. |
Love those lights.

As I commented earlier they are nice.....but.....doing the currency conversion they work out to 1000.00$ Canadian for a set of headlights. That is a ton of money just for headlights and I am not cheap with spending.

I got a nice deal, and free shipping, since i bought two kits. And yes, they are expensive... This car is getting way over what i had in mind... But, that`s all forgoten after some driving in April... |
Ive have the same lights and had them shipped directly from Europe to Hawaii. These headlights are expensive, but they are the very best available for our cars. Fit is very close to like factory headlights, they are sealed, highly adjustable and lights are much brighter than stock.

You'll use turbo S front spindles or standard 951?
|
I dont know, bougt some used from lart, with the late offset. S2 i think.
|
Not sure if all late offset spindles have radial mounted calipers or not but I wonder if 951 radial mount spindles on bigger radial calipers is possible. Ideally I'd get big blacks but these are hard to get cheap nowdays and superior options like those you got are available cheaper.
|
Here is the backside, easy to fabricate adapters https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...76a797ba6.jpeg |
Yup. Those are axial not radial..
M030 turbo S spindles look like this.. (picture stolen here: https://rennlist.com/forums/924-931-...3o-or-not.html ) Wonder if it's possible to mount axial calipers with wider holes on M030 spindles. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...bcfee2b4da.jpg |

Yes, much easier to make axial:radial adapters than radial:radial

I'll need to put everything more to the front also because turbo is much longer.
I'm waiting for the front calipers with which I'll have to determine rotor size and get that too. I then have more or less everything. I'ts a slow ride but not in a hurry. :) |

I'll go with chargecooler in intake plenum setup and direct turbo -> TB -> chargecooler air route. Should be fun. Shoehorning it all on top of engine will be challenging.

It's still in parts. Will probably have to reduce runner length to get it to clear brake booster. If not I'm considering using 964T servo powered booster.

Why did you block of the rest of the cooler, or what is your theory for it ?
If the fans are on they creating an air stream that pulls air through the hole cooler ?, now it can only pass through the fan itself ?! |
Blocking of like this forces the air thru 100% of the radiator when they are running. Increasing the cooling %. |
You want as much cooling as possible without fans. Fans are only for when car is stationary for too long. I'd loose the cover or install flaps.
|

Loosing the cover will reduce the cooling efficient. We alwaysbuild the radiators cooling like this And they works fine. |
Loosing the cover will allow radiator to work properly. It will only reduce force cooling when fans kick in. That should only happen in traffic jams, most of the time air you travel trough is much more powerful coolant than what that fan can move.
If you really want powerful cooling get a multi pass radiator. |

Spal fans spins Nice on airflow letting the air to go thru without engaging. So dont worry ;) |

His design is also bad but better, he doesn't have 50% of radiator covered with shroud. With design you made, you only use about 50% of radiator surface when fans are off (which should be most of the time). So half of that massive cooler is doing nothing but sitting there.
However It will probably work ok either way because cooler appears to be overkill. Great way to test this kind of system is blast it with water or pressure washer. If water which is like air also fluid passes with ease and deflect in a way you want, you did a good job, if it hits flat surface behind radiator it fails to rapidly move trough it and thus doesn't cool at all. If nothing else, I would add flaps like these: https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...66605048bc.jpg |
I don`t agree, the front is air sealed, all the air going in, must go thru the coolers.
So, the entire radiator is used. On all the cars we have done it like this, we never see engine temp problems. But thanks for the advice. Im more curious on my self made intercooler.. had to learn how to Mig weld aluminium.. |
Watch out for slag getting inside. Engine wouldn't appreciate it :)

So they totally assembled your transmission, complete with shifter mechanism, , reverse light switch and even inserted mount bolts ready for install and then realized you need to split the gear cluster from the diff housing to install the ring gear/diff....?
This doesn't make any sense at all. T |

This doesn't make any sense at all. T Yes, i delivered one S2 Gb and one 951 in parts, was some extra job for him. But the gearbox is 100% done now. |
Gearbox cooling done. 2x coolers, 0.8L more oil than oem. going to use omega 690w 75w-90 https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...c95ebb694.jpeghttps://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...87d81327e.jpeg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...f817ffc73.jpeg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...58dc2f883.jpeg |
Are the late offset spindles the same as the standard 968. If so could I have a diagram of the brackets you have made because I am doing the same brake build for my car. Also does anybody know if the 996 turbo calipers have better stopping power than the big reds/ blacks from the 993 tt 928 gts. Great build thanks in advance. |

Yes. |
I have also just bought the KW v3 shocks so am interested how you find them. Are you changing any of the bushes on suspension as well. Mo30 roll bars? |

Do you have a drawing of the bracket/spacers you made it would save me a lot of time. thanks |

ill keep the 3 point also. |
Nice progress...., you must be getting close now..?
Curious, are you using the original balance shaft turbo lube feed...? I made a similar delete solution 15 years ago but I kept the oil feed groove on Ver. 1 using a cut section of a stock shaft for feed passage and a cross drilled hole on Ver. 2 on a lathed billet piece. On the fronts, I just used the 1st few inches chopped off a stock shaft with a spacer sleeve and bolt. Front only has to seal crankcase pressure since there's no oil delivered there once you interrupt feed from the bearing by cutting the shafts. Anyways...., carry on...:biggulp: T |

I deleted my balance shafts also but tapped the oil feed holes & installed bolts.
I love that spoiler. Expensive I imagine. |

Holy thread resurrections Batman, I was looking to see what folks have done with wings as I came across this Schnitzer on the market. I was looking for something else. Now the piece I’m looking at is a tad more rough and missing the uprights also but a bit of fabricating hasn’t held me back before so....
What do you think? Apparently these thing generate good down force. Does it have potential for the monster. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...09a9c0aad.jpeg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...af2609b0d1.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...1dbd933c9.jpeg |

will start on this after the car is done now for winter. Hoping to dyno in October. 4.11 final ratio 1st 3.50 2nd 1.89 3rd 1.32 4th 1.03 5th 0.86 6th 0.71 https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...df78936fd.jpeg |
Keep us updated on that transmission. It's obviously a bit longer than stock, which shouldn't be a problem for cars with the spare tire well cut out. What about the rest of the case? pretty well bolt on?

Question 1:
What did you do to make it a 10minute installation/removal verses the 2hour OEM? Was a 3 piece cross over used? Question 2: Will the new gear box let you reach 200mph? |
Due to a big house renovation the 951 has not got the attention it deserves, when adding upp my no sleep over the oem ignition reading on the flywheel i was on the look for a solution.
DRS Development came up with an adapter wich includes an ATI damper ( good bye balanceshafts ) and a 60-2 trigger wheel. Adding one camsensor, it`s now a solution my tuner likes. Might be starting this thing before xmas.. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...c8c55dab4c.jpg |
Why didn't you use just an "off the shelf Clewitt?
https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...17c6a3b4c8.jpg |

I ordered new pistons. Wiseco ONLY sell kits. So i bought 5pc. Head is welded, machining it Next week. https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...7ce6209052.jpg |
Looks like the intake valve took a beating as well? :crying: Sorry to see, we have all been there in this (expensive) hobby....

Yeah, and wiseco didn`t sell one piston, so i bought 5. Anyone need a set for sleeved engine? 8:1 compression. |
Head just got back from my friend.
Now, we wait on some parts from Wiseco, Cometic and ARP.. https://scontent.fosl3-2.fna.fbcdn.n...53&oe=5FA3B111 https://scontent.fosl3-2.fna.fbcdn.n...92&oe=5FA6C614 https://scontent.fosl3-1.fna.fbcdn.n...72&oe=5FA5AAF6 |
So the head is back after Welding and decking.
oil pump is ported, hoping it will deliver pressure to 7000rpm. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...8e7455d0a4.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...97aacd0dac.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...24c73e63d7.jpg |

Dude, you can rebuild...
Hopefully for a bit less than 6 mil. |
Hang in there. You’ve done so much amazing work on this project, you have to see it to the end to experience it’s full potential!

Then the weather came and messed with my steel sleeves.. |
Ouch.. That really sucks.
Few turns of flexhone should bring the cylinders back in no time though. |

I understand you are looking to increase oil pressure near red-line (above factory spec) by somehow porting the pump. Would you explain a bit more on this, I'm very interested on the modification and philosophy!
Making it easyer for the pump to get the oil in. |
So, the threads holding the oilpickup went ****.

Erik, this blows, can you elaborate on what led to the failure of the threads? Does this engine have BS's installed? Are you using solid or semisolid motor mounts? I am installing modded oil pickup tube and considering further gussets to help prevent any pickup tube related failures this weekend.
