Do you think you have the skills to build it yourself? These engine aren't that hard to rebuild. There's just more little bolts on the short block then most engines. And a few more seals, and never forget the clear seals behind the balance shaft and camshaft front housings. I'm sure many would be willing to throw in tips and advice if you had any questions. I'll be rebuilding mine soon myself. However I understand if you just don't want too. I don't mess with transaxle's so I had mine sent off to get rebuilt. But with an engine its different to most of us, IMO. You take your pistons and block to a machine shop and have them clean up the block and bores to fit the pistons (these engines are polished with a silica compound I believe after honing) and the heads are cleaned and usually given a valve job and resurfacing. I'm betting most of the rennlister's in the 951 forum can rebuild a 2.5 to 3.? engine and not want to mess with the transaxle. And I don't blame them. I took apart the uy 87 transaxle I had to use the ring and pinion in my AOR and lost some check ball right off the bat. Plus I didn't take that class, yet. Engines just seem so much easier, I couldn't even find a shop in California that would rebuild my AOR transaxle. I had to send it to California motor sports in lake Havusu AZ. But if you could get any of those mentioned to rebuild it for you then I would just do that. I mean even I would do that. Then have them sign the engine.

If you built a VW flat four then you can build these engines. The hardest engine I think I have ever had to rebuild was a 95 RX7 rotary with an automatic transmission end plate. Lots of seals, little information on seal location and direction, sealants can't touch at 1/8" away from each other. And that rotary engine is mostly seals and sealant. These engines have all the information available to you in many ways, the easiest is found on many websites (rennlist being the best IMO) and/or service manuals if you want the real paper to look at. I would recommend becoming a rennlist member thou first. Otherwise that's all you may hear. It's really worth it. It's like having access to communicate and ask real thought out questions to the best in the 951 world to put it into perspective. And you'll get a well thought out answer that has probably been asked more then just once before. However when I say I would get one of those mentioned to build your engine it's because they are very well respected and reputable engine builders for these engines. And designers, fabricators, basically on the list of the best in the business and there rennlister's as well.
