Default Turbo shaftplay consensus

Hi guys. I recently purchased a kokeln turbo second hand and was told there was zero to very little shaft play. Just got the turbo in today. Please let me know what you think...would you run as is?

Nope. IMHO that turbo needs a rebuild. At a shop you're looking at $350-400 + shipping both ways and shipping a turbo isn't exactly cheap.

You should re shoot the videos and don't hold the camera in your hands. There's no stationary frame of reference when the camera is wobbling around like mad. In the first video it looks like it has as much as my brand new (to reiterate, not rebuilt) T04 KKK hybrid looked when it came out of the box. The second video seems to have more. But again the camera is moving too much to tell. If I trusted the seller and they had personally run it and said it didn't smoke or burn excessive oil I would probably run it. If the seller hadn't personally run it (parting out a car etc...) I would probably send it out, or ask the seller to buy it back.

I think it's a tough call... depends on how much you hate the install job.
This video above is not mine, and his seems to be a little tighter than mine was when it was new.

If there's any evidence of it touching the hot housing or the compressor then it's 100% done!

Mine looks better than...crazy. I pulled my stock k26/6 with 150k and it had about the same. I rebuilt my k26/8 and there was zero play.

If it makes you feel better, rebuild it. without going through it you're definitely taking some sort of gamble. I was astounded how sloppy mine was from new.

Absolutely! I was under the impression there should be none when new. I'll probably rebuild it just to be safe.

I think 951 factory manual has tolerances for stock turbo, if it is inside of stock tolerance I'd say its good. If yours is out of factory tolerance than have it checked out by the rebuilding shop first..

As for the info, lindsey racing either took over or distributed kokeln turbo business so they should know every detail about these. Contact them.

Take it to a turbo dude and have him measure it.
