Default Bolt on Garrett or New Tech?

I just got a 951 and am looking to upgrade everything. There are a bunch of posts 5+ years old about some hybrid garrett's, but what are my options for current tech (ball bearing, billet wheels, etc) like a GTX Garrett turbo hybrid that will bolt straight up with any necessary water/oil line adapters that will fit intake and exhaust?

I'm planning on running an M-tune if I don't go with vitesse for everything and probably 3" downpipe and exhaust, along with other necessary upgrades.

I'm looking for 350+whp making 1 bar boost at around 3200rpm if possible. Or is there anything worth the price premium over a K27/6?

nothing new will be "bolt-on"

you will need to make correspoding mods, intake manifold clearance, oil and water lines, turbo mount or mount adapter, then ofcourse fuel/air and tuning.

I have no experience with the K27 compressor, but you really should get away from the #6 hot housing. It's a back-pressure machine! I'm running basically a Lindsey 340 kit with their super 61 wet sleeve bearing turbo. I LOVE it for a street car, I get boost by 3500 in high gears, and with the M-tune the off boost performance seems improved as well.

I usually share this video with people who don't think the super 61 has good spool characteristics...Though there's a lot of bad driving to witness

This is my track only car with a stock K26-6 turbo and basic max 951 AFM chip. Transient throttle and boost threshold honsetly isn't much better with the small hot side.

When I picked the 340 kit parts for the street car, I called Dave Lindsey and told him how I wanted the car to behave and he picked the turbo. I couldn't be happier.

Yeah, I am looking for the easiest to fit no fabrication solution - will mount up to stock crossover pipe/exhaust/intake, has a modified mount, and comes with modified lines.

Lindsey's ball bearing turbos say they're modified to clear the stock intake manifold, but require you to modify the water/oil lines.

Vitesse comes with a water pipe adapter?

Is there any kit that comes with everything? Broadfoot, which I hadn't heard of until google searching, has a bunch of mount up KKK hybrid journal bearing turbos and some modified mounts and custom oil lines for GT/GTX turbos for $$$, but it doesn't look like they have water lines.

It's not clear that getting the ball bearing turbo is that helpful... I didn't, and for the slight difference i don't think I would have paid the $500 or whatever extra it cost. With the plain bearings you don't have to modify your oil lines, and I was able to heat and bend the existing water pipe annoying but not a real problem. You would have to ask John Vitesse what he does for a water pipe, hes on top of things so I'm sure he either includes a part, or can tell you what to do or purchase.

I wouldn't give Broadfoot a single dollar of my hard earned money, even if he was the last supplier in the game. The guy is a POS to deal with.

That super 61 seemed like it was a little big from my reading. If you're getting a full 17-18psi at 3500rpm, that's not bad though. If TBB helped bring it down a little, that could be good.

Edit: Good to know about broadfoot.

Yeah, BB is a spendy option. Might not help with full psi RPM much, but should help it spool faster hopefully.

I should talk to vitesse. He is using billet wheels now, but the lack of info he posts is a turnoff. And then you're kind of stuck with him if you want to swap turbos easily it seems like.

There's also a rennlist member E-man930 that has a local shop modding K26-8 turbos with billet compressor wheels, and ported hot sides, that are sopposed to spool faster than a regular 26-8 and do 330-350 whp. I just bought one from him, so I don't have dyno numbers yet, but hopefully this winter I'll have some numbers. I think he might need to have a small batch of guys to make it cost effective.

Broadfoot has a VERY bad reputation with those that aren't local. You'd be better to go with Lindsey or Vitesse.

Yeah, i thought it would be too big also, but like i said; I told Lindsey what I wanted the car to do and let them spec the turbo.

Grab some popcorn and a beer, then search "Broadfoot" on here. Terrible stories, glad I never gave him any of my money.

Speed Force Racing has a garrett turbo that will bolt on with an adapter. But be aware that they can have extremely slow delivery times. Before ordering make sure what you are getting is on the shelf and immediately available. You will want to speak with Tim.

Oh yeah, speedforce was another one. Looks like some require their crossover pipe though for an extra $1k+, but definitely more options.

Is the t04e 50 trim garrett compressor with a stage 3 turbine wheel and replica kkk hotside still not considered the best all round bolt on for these cars? Easy enough to source as well.

I've got a LR 61-10, haven't got around to fitting it yet. A few people said it's too big for a 2.5 engine...

I'm assuming the 61-10 has the #10 hot side? If so I would guess they are right. Mine is a #8 stage 3 turbine and seems sized pretty right for what I'm doing with a 2.5. I can't see a need or a want for a #10, but I guess you wouldn't know for sure until you ran it.
