Just to clarify, what does the manual boost controller do to regulate boost when dialed to 10psi - lower? Anything at all? Would that not be the same as running no boost controller? I was under the assumption that the purpose of the boost controller was to
a. Replace the cycling valve (why?)
b. Increase boost beyond spring pressure (danger?)
Would it have been a A:F ratio problem causing it to detonate or something (is this possible in this scenario)?

I would open the Tial and check which springs are in there (they are color coded), or maybe better, hook some air pressure up if possible and see if it actually opens (where it should, or at all).
