HELP! 86 944 turbo throttle position sensor (tps) broken
Hi there I got a 944 Turbo about 5 months ago from a friend of my mom's. It was driving great then I parked it before the 4th of July and went to drive it a few days later and now the throttle position sensor isn't working. I took it to my local mechanic and he wasn't sure what to do. I've looked up the TPS sensor for it from different car part stores and websites and I don't think they make any aftermarket parts anymore for the turbo model. Except for maybe buying one from a Porsche dealership which is too expensive for me I don't know of any options. Any thoughts? Thanks Will

There has been discussion on this in the not too distant past here on the forum. I think someone found an alternative that can be used that is semi-reasonably priced.
Or get ahold of Lart, I'm sure he has good used ones at a reasonable price.

Thanks for the reply! Do you by chance know what that alternative method would be? Do you know if it's using the Audi A4 TH90 tps sensor? Or is it some other method? And this might be a silly question but who is Lart? Haha Thanks Will.

There was a suggestion that a TPS from an Audi product would work.
I bought one and tried it out. It has the same electrical connector and bolts right up with no issues from a fitment perspective.
The microswitch behaves the same way, however the resistance values do not exactly match the values of the 944T TPS. Beyond that, I have no further data.

You can apparently get these new again, they used to be NLA but not anymore. At least according to a thread somewhere on here or pelican parts in the last few months.

The TH90 switch and the Audi A4/6 TPS are easier to come by, but around here are no cheaper than the OE switch. I ran into an intermittent fault with mine while installing my VEMS standalone and thought I would just get the TH90 as the system calibrates to the TPS limits. Ultimately I've ordered an OE switch as it allows a future reversion to stock. 944 online stocks them; $300 or thereabouts. Not a cheap hobby of course, but nothing is cheap today.

as a last ditch effort you can spray some electrical cleaner where the throttle shaft goes and see if it clears something up. or pull the cover off. Then you can test it with an ohm meter.
