What intercooler for a race car?
My engine is still a 2.5L, 8V and makes 315 RWHP @ 16PSI (385 crank HP) on a Maha Dyno.
It is a strong and reliable race engine with the proper mods done (Darton sleeves, JE pistons, Wossner rods, Parker Head, JME Cam, SFR Turbo Stage 2,…)
Right now I have a SFR stage 1 Intercooler.
With higher temperatures and humidity, I definitely loose power.
What are my options?
I have a fiber body so I have no problem to cut and customize the front chassis (and the body) to accommodate the right Intercooler and radiator.

The bigger the better. From another thread on here it looks like Lindsey is building their big one again. It will take modifications to your front end.

What is your oil cooler situation like? If you switch to a front mount IC the location of the current stock IC becomes a mounting location for a larger oil cooler.
A 3" core will likely be your best bet as it will require the least amount of material removal from the aluminum front bumper support. A 2.5/2.75" core would probably drop right in but I not seen one off the shelf with tanks in the dimensions we would want for our cars.
Obviously you can go custom and fit whatever you like at the expense of being 3 to 5 times more costly.

I went with the LR stage 5 as I had already picked up their nose panel that fits, and I trust their delivery time.
an sfr stage 2 might fit with no glass work, depending on your front clip.

Is it a FMIC or a Porsche IC based design?

During a hot day my oil temperature went to 240deg F so I need a bigger oil cooler. I have a Setrab 925 fully shrouded and sealed in and out but it is not enough. I am planning to go with the next size (934) as it is 37% bigger.
Actually I am asking about the IC because I am considering moving the new oil cooler in front of my radiator (best location IMO for efficiency and drag). As cannot do both (FMIC and oil cooler) in front of my radiator, I am trying to determine the right way to do it. The other option is a Laminova heat exhanger with a bigger rad but I should start a new thread about this.
Back to the IC, I have to say that I prefer the Porsche IC location as it is easier to extract the air properly and rapidly through the hood and without impacting the radiator temp.
So what is the efficiency of a FMIC vs a modified and properly shrouded Porsche IC?

Here is a picture of my oil cooler (Setrab 925: 14.09 x 7.6 core) when I built the first shroud. I had to build another one with a bigger opening as my temperature was too high. It is better but not enough as I want to stay under 230 deg F.
It is not finished on this picture, the opening is the same on the wheel well with a shroud too.
I am planning to go with the bigger one (935: 14.09 x 10.39). It is 37% bigger and I hope it will be big enough. I am still questioning about the location.
Same place vs in front of the radiator. This is why I am asking about the Intercooler.
Any other opinion, brand,... ?
