It is so true that exhaust note is very subjective. And your ear can change. I have a 3" system with a test pipe and a Magna flow. 350 rwhp. At first I liked the sound but now it has worn on me. On the freeway the drone can be tiring. Younger people say it sounds great! When entering a PCA show and shine, the older parking worker asked me if I was entering in the race car group. Cracked me up with my bone stock looking exterior. I downloaded a DB meter app and was suprised to see the meter went to 98 DB at the interior with one window rolled down. Our local track, Laguna Seca has a 100 DB limit on track cars! I have been seriously thinking about finding a quieter muffler. After all, what does a couple of horsepower mean to a high horsepower street car? My butt is loosing to my ears.

I hear ya. Let's say I'm a bit more mature and I'm not really needing to draw attention. I like the stock sound, so that may be the way I go. But the extra HP is no doubt seductive, especially because the turbo does seem so restricted.

Will a stock muffler work with the Fabspeed, cat delete? Probably not I'm thinking. What would the HP gains be just removing the cat?

Sorry for the late reply. Check it out:

Also sorry for the iPhone sound quality and vertical recording on the first clip.

ALSO, just to add, literally no drone whatsoever. Best part of this exhaust for me because highways are now amazing.

The fabspeed was my favorite upgrade for sure. I keep the hi flow cat on except for track days - just a personal preference (also smells better).

Awesome!

Was the power increase noticeable after the install? I imagine it's pretty "night and day" difference.

I wouldn't say it was incredibly noticeable, but that's most likely because I was already running Fabspeed's high-flow cat previously. I just switched the cat for a straight pipe and I imagine that only netted MAYBE +10hp, but more likely around 5. The sound wasn't incredibly louder than the high-flow either, at least from the driver's seat. Dad says he can hear me every morning a quarter of a mile away when I leave, though

I have the Lindsey full 3", I ordered it with the 3" resonator and a magnaflow muffler, it was a bit too loud for me so I replaced the resonator with a 6" diameter straight through magnaflow and replaced the muffler in the rear with a larger and slightly longer magnaflow than the one I got from Lindsey, it's pretty close to stock sounding now.

I have a LR 3" exhaust that I will be putting up for sale soon along with a LR sport turbo, tial 40mm wastegate, and the Rogue Tuning maf setup with Rogue's DME, rebuilt KLR.

My wife said that I can buy a bwm M series car, but the 951 needs to go.

I'm still wearing her down on keeping the 951, but I can't see having 4 cars for 2 drivers.

I think I have to go with the straight pipe. Pure sound. Neighbors will get used to it.

How much does tip length influence final sound?
Would adding 2" or so affect it significantly?

Do resonated tips really work?
Would using thicker pipe to DIY your own tip from the muffler make the sound different vs standard wall pipe?

i listened to a few vids yesterday with straight pipes and it does sound very '4-cyl race car' and not in a good way. 911 turbos can sound great with straight pipes because you get a bit of whirrrr from the turbos in the exhaust. the 951 doesn't have that sound - just too far downstream for it to sound appealing, imo.

i see many of you mentioning a drone from an open exhaust. i don't experience this at all on my car. i guess it's the borla that's giving the most drone?
