That's a late style pan. Check to see if the pick up head is the same diameter as the recess in the pan. The 86 and earlier had a bigger pick up head and it wont fit the recess I the oil pan.

The pickup in the engine, is the one from the picture I posted earlier...

Not going to open it up just to take a look, though. It's been fine for 10 years of hard running, from snow to 120 degree deserts and lots of dyno time...I'll check on the pickup tube when the engine comes out next

If you say early style won't fit, and this one obviously fits, then I must have a late style pickup, no?

No both will fit th late pan. Only the early pan can use the early pickup tube. It looks like you have an early pickup tube with a late pan. Won't hurt. I'll check mine when I get home.

The reason why Porsche changed and revised the oil pan and baffle was for the famous #2 bearing oiling failure prevention.
I upgraded my plastic baffle and used Lindsey oil pan baffle. I would 100% recommend replacing ur plastic baffle if its cracked or damage.

Late pan.

Next time you change your oil, peek into the drain hole and see if the pickup tube is almost touching the pan (later, correct tube), or if it's up a little higher (early, wrong tube).
