Has anyone on here used PPM or Molnar Rods?
Hey guys, has any one used Pure Performance Motorsport connecting rods in their build?
https://www.pureperformancemotorspor...ting-rods.html
I am planning a full engine rebuild, and these rods are local and not as expensive as some of the more upmarket items from the US/Germany. I know Carillo, Pauter, Wossner etc are very good and used by a lot of people on here, but they are a bit out of my price range at the moment.
Originally, I was just planning on just getting ARP rod bolts for my stock rods and then getting them machined after they've been torqued with the new bolts. However, if I spend a little bit extra, I could get a whole new set of rods.
I also came across these rods on Ebay, for around the same price as the PPM's. Made by Molnar in the US. Are they any good?

Or should I just stick to stock rods with ARP bolts, until I can afford the good stuff?
I'm not planning on any huge power for now. Just around 350hp with a modest sized turbo and standalone ecu with e85 later on. Keeping the 6.5k redline.
Also, at the moment I am assuming I have the forged Rarst rods. However, if it turns out I have cast rods, then even these cheaper aftermarket rods will definitely be an upgrade right?

Molnar rods are forged in China and finish-machined in USA.
I have spoken a lot to Tom Molnar, and he knows his stuff. Been in the rod industry a long time.
Racer's Edge carries Molnar rods.

Cool, I am pretty tempted to get them. Compared to the price of getting ARP rod bolts for my stock rods and having them machined...the extra bit of money for all new rods is probably worth it. I just want to confirm that these are actually better than the stock forged Rarst rods.

I'm pretty sure that someone in the UK tried those PPM rods in his car but I can't remember who it was. Perhaps Tim with the 16v turbo build or another guy with the EFR twin scroll build. From memory, neither car was driven a lot before it may have been moved on. 2am and memory is a bit light...

I ended up getting the Molnars as well. PPM seemed a bit sketchy...I found a couple bad reviews about them messing up peoples orders. Nothing but good feedback on Molnar though.
They certainly look nice, can't wait to put my engine back together!

Because it comes from china, doesn't mean it's crap.
It just depends on who'd making it there.
My dad's a fitter and turner. I use to help him out when i was younger. We've came across some really poor steel before. most of the time it's when people give it to us to use for their job. At times it can have other steel mixed with it during the process and when you're machining it, you can really notice it.
Hope you have luck with the rods. I dont think you'll push enough to break them. you'll seriously need to be over 500whp to put them under stress.
