I had an encounter with a hyabusa and he had a second person with him.
He seemed to really like my car or my stupidity.
I got my *** handed to me, but my car was jerking like crazy.

My car is stupid fast for a car. I've taken a stock late model GSXR 750. From 100mph to 180mph. At first when we hit it, he jumped at least 5 car lengths ahead of me. Finally edged up next to him at about 140 or so and then just barely kept pulling away from him. The bike was stock. Even with my crazy fast car, a slightly modified 600 will outpull me, let alone a busa, or a ducati that would make me look like a pacer. No comparison. Bikes rule, and I don't even have one...yet.

Well, re the chopper/sportbike ~ what kind of riding do you think you'll do? How much riding experience do you have? A good litmus for the type of bike would be weather you use your P-car to go out and go apex hunting or if you cruise the bars looking for hotties. If you're a corner guy, the sportbike is the best option of the 2.. if you're a cruiser/show off person then a custom chopper would probably fit your personality better.

Nothing wrong with either choice and they can both kinda do everything, it's just that they excel at 1 thing.. there are bikes that more evenly do Everything well, but nothing great (which is what I own..Kawasaki ZRX ).

How about if I let it go for 2700? I really need the garage space. Brian you know anyone looking? 100 bucks to the person who sells it, 200 if it goes for 3K or more.

Not this time of year... temps dropped 15~20 deg in the past 3 days, people are looking to sell cheap right now (and me, looking to buy cheap ~ gotta stock up so I can sell for a profit this next spring.. ) Your bike will probably sell to someone looking secifically for what you have... it's to expensive for most squids, to slow for the guys who are trying to keep up (note, they need a point and shoot weapon ~ I know FZR's are great in the corners) and of no interest to those who are looking for a great all arrounder (Bandit 12s, ZRXs and VFRs can be had for $3k).

I hope you're able to sell it without loosing your shirt though. Just like selling a 951, gotta sit back and wait for the right person.

I bought it used in 1998. I am not concerned. The price is a little high but this bike is really nice and had all kinds of custom work (well not all kinds by bike standards). It is a great all-rounder if a little slow in the straight. Make great race bikes though ideally you would have an FZR 400 frame as it is a little lighter. I thought about trading it on an R-1 but the liter bikes just arent as fun everyday. I would love a Ducati 748 but I am not willing to put up with the maintenance. To be honest I just need my garage back.

that video doesn't prove anything... there is no way a 993 in any shape or form can beat a stock R1, you have obviously never been on an R1 at WOT, it almost tears your head off with the acceleration. I love this thread, I have seen this thread on the S4 and ZR-1 boards multiple times in the past few years and it's the same thing over and over. you guys need to go buy a bike then make an educated decision as Simon did.

Good grief.. I not only own a bike, I'm a roadracer, ran a team AND worked for an independednt suspension company that supported AMA level racers (and at least 1 guy who's gone onto the GP scene). There is no chance in hell that a roadrace motorcycle will keep up with a roadrace car (dedicated race vehicles). The gap narrows a little when you use street machines but a car that's as focused as the R1 will still kill it in most cases where there are any corners. The ONLY place bikes have it all over cars is in acceleration and decelleration due to the HP/weight ratio (and overall weight.. lighter will always get up and go a little faster).

FWIW, I ride a 132HP (documented rear wheel on a Dynojet) bike on the street that'll take most R1's up to 120 or so. I used to ride an old *** Honda VF500f that would walk away from R1s/900rrs and the like if there were a good string of corners and roadraced an RS125 because they are some of the fastest cornering bikes on the planet.

There's just no way in hell that a vehicle with better than 8 times the tire contact patch will loose ground anywhere there's a corner. There's not a bike on the planet that'll hold over 1g latteral (which some cars do stock). If the above doesn't qualify me as being able to make an educated decision, I don't know what will. Shoot, I even posted lap times in the other tread about this (was on the OT forum) and cars were consistantally 2 seconds, if not more, faster than the lap records held by bikes. It was the only way I was able to shut those guys up about this topic... so let me go see if the search is working and I can find that thread.

Brian - what do you think would be a good asking price. The bike has 14K on it. Lots of little stuff, full V&H headers back, etc, etc.

To sell it right now? ask $2700, sell for $2500 and it'll still be iffy. If I were on the lookout for that bike I don't think I'd go over $1200 or so which is about half of what I think I could sell it for in the spring. While I know that NADA and KBB tend to be low, both of them support the numbers above. Also, consider what else people could buy for the money. Within a couple hundred dollars of $3k they could buy a Hond Hawk, F2, F3 or VFR, Suzuki Bandit 600, Katana 600/750, SV650 or older (pre-94) GSXR750/1100s. Yamaha has their YZF600, FZR1000, and FJ1200 with Kawi offering ex500s, ZR750, ZX7, and my ZRX... I feel that all of these bikes would be considered by someone who would look at yours aswell (though a few bridge a little more into touring than yours). All of these bikes were found somewhere in TX (I know it's a big state and prices may not reflect those found in Dallas) through cycletrader.com. Your absolute Best bet on selling will be to post it on a FZR specific forum/email list of some sort. I managed to sell my VFR for probably $1000 more than what I would have gotten otherwise because I sold it through a forum.

FWIW, the more stock stuff you have the more you'll be able to ask. I'm always wary of modified bikes and usually walk from those that don't also come with the stock components to reinstall. Just like with our P-cars, all the paperwork you can bring to the table just helps seal the deal.

Kinda what I am thinking too. I still owe a small sum on it though not that much. The cycle trader I was looking at there were 3 of them and all were asking over 3K which I thought was very optimistic. I will be happy if I get 2500 or so. It is a good all round bike though the styling is getting a little dated (personally, I dont like the new rear end on the R-1, GSXR). I have receipts for all the work I have done. I have only ridden it a few hundred miles since I bought it. Spent 800 bucks on maintenance last October. Had a whole bunch of stuff done to it, including new tires. I have ridden it probably 100 miles since then.
