I need advise from my fellow 951 listers trade of a 928
as many of you know I have a 89 turbo for sale on eBay, the listing has the option to accept offers, well today I received a unusual offer, at first I thought it was a joke but then I realized it was real, the gentleman happens to be a fellow old rennlister, he is offering me in trade a 1994 928 GTS for the 89 Turbo, here is what he said;
What do you guys think? I'll be turning 55 next week, I'll be a senior citizen, but I don't know if I am willing to jump into a 928, those things are ugly and slow.
TIA
lart
Lart, I hope you are doing well, Iam a member of rennlist as well and I know of your reputation on the forums . I have owned a 94 928 GTS for a number of years that I am willing to trade for your 89 Turbo, this is a serious offer. I have come to that point in my life where I would like to have some kind of excitement, although the 928 is great comfortable car it will never be a sport car, is heavy, super slow, it handles like a 70 chevy Nova, besides the fact that Iam tired of dealing with the guys on the 928 forum all they talk is about types of waxes, spark plugs, viagra and car covers.
The other day a friend gave me a ride in his moded 400rwhp 951 what a blast, I actually pissed in my pants, it was like a F1 car but on the street, I need that in my life and I willing to let go of my beloved 928, honestly is not like I really liked the car with the ugly frog eyes headlights and the UFO rear I was a little embarrassed to drive the thing around town, so lart would you take the trade?
Best regards
Randy V

Straight across trade for a GTS? If it's in good condition, I'd go for it. Besides, this could be a perfect transition into senior citizenship!
There were only around 400 that came to the US. The GTS came with 345hp, so it's not exactly 'slow'. It probably wouldn't be hard to get it around 500hp if you really want to get the groceries home a little quicker. Straight up though, stock-for-stock, the GTS is worth considerably more than an '89 turbo. I'm not sure what you've done to your 951, if anything, or what is done to the 928, but I would consider what you could get for it if you wanted to get rid of it after the trade and go from there.
All that being said, if he does want a trade+$, I guess that would come down to your personal taste.

Hahahahaha!
You would have to keep it at somebody else's house and wear a disguise when going to visit it.

Can you say this about the heritage of the 928?

I would offer him one 951 tub you have in the backyard and a do-it-yourself parts kit and screwdriver set.
DIY supercar for GTS sounds like a good deal.
