I will do some group drives. In fact I'm kind of bummed that I don't have my car going, so that I could participate in some of them.

But what I meant was. That if, and only if, I was provoked to. I will probably out run most of the other Porsche's in my area.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not the type to seek out a race.

fluid, you mention ragged and poor up keep, what would you consider ragged? or poor up keep? yes i agree that the maintenance on these car cost is up there.
i wouldn't saw my car is the best nor do i know the engineering that went into these cars, but one thing's for sure, i do take pride in my car as it is a porsche and it's history of being fast, well engineered equipment.
i'm not being winey nor am i being offended, simply i don't want to be labeled as being ragged and an owner of a p-car just for the name.
if anyone can shed a light on what is considered ragged then maybe i and a few might take this advise and start making our rides the best it can be so not to be labeled as ragged.
as far as my car is concerned, it's a daily driver. i'm usually under the hood every chance i get. the car is kept clean and waxed weekly, the rims are always clean and the interior clean. true it's exterior might be full of chips and dings, would this be considered ragged?
as far as seeing 944's, there is another one on post that i see occasionally, i believe it's an S model if i can remember what the guy told me alpine white same as mine, a black one n/a, an emerald green 928.
both owners of the 944 are good aquaintances.

Same here... I've been in the DC Area (Alexandria, VA) for two years now and it is rare for me to see another 951. If you see a black 951 with 9FIFTY1 plates, that's me.

Cheers.

smkn951: when I say ragged I refer to complete paint fade, parts hanging off them (or incomplete), etc. I would be fairly certain that's no one who would have the interest to participate in forums like these. As I said, the majority of those owners don't care much for their cars.

Fortysixandtwo: I get the sense that most Porsche owners don't stick together in your area. You've mentioned being "provoked" and "messing" with others. That's the type of interaction I typically envision between Porsche owners and non-Porsche owners, such those that drive Camaro's, Mustangs, Corvettes, etc. I've lived in a few different states and some places just have a closer bond than others. I just drove next to a red 951 on the freeway about 30 minutes ago and we gave each other the smile & "thumbs up" sign. Not a case where anyone is trying to "one-up" the other.

I live in the DC metro area (Tysons Corner, Mclean), and very rarely see anything other than boxters or 996's.

I think it would be a great time to get all the 951's in the Northern Virginia area together for a drive/cookout/get together. I think it would look just SEXY seeing a bunch of 951's in a row tooling down the beltway and/or backroads Anyone interested? Even if it's just a couple cars, it would still be fun.

Right now, however, I'm down in Blacksburg VA (Virginia Tech), finishing up some schoolin'. When I bought my 951 a little over a year ago, I was the 3rd 944 (2nd 951) in town. Now I'm pretty sure there are 9+ 944/951's in the area. I knew that I could expect the ~$1k a year in upkeep...but I bet some of these other owners didn't.

I always keep my car in as close to perfect condition as possible. It's my daily driver, so I'm definitely representin' I love her (Katja) to death...when you can get in your daily driver while running errands during your busy day, and your car can steal your attention, give you goosebumps, and make you think "man I love this car"...that's a car you need to hold on to for a long time...

...and that's just what I intend on doing

I saw only a few in the Chicago area. I saw one parked in a office lot a 951 not bad shape, a white 944 pulled up next to me at a stop and we gave the thumbs up, a yellow with black tinted windows driven by a young kid , it was clean and well taken care of,. We gave each other the thumbs up. He also made his head light go up and down , which was cool as he went bye to say hello! My car is a white one looks like new! I did not buy my 951 because it is a Porsche. It is the only Porsche that I Like .( I never did really test drive a 911 though)

And I see the same amount of TURBO 911's (again, of the same vintage '86 -'89) as I do 951's. To be fair, you must specify the year and model of the 911, as you are with the 944.
To give you a better idea of my perspective, yesterday I saw 4 911's and a boxster. Two of the 911's were late-80's vintage, two were 996's. This morning I saw a 993. Two days ago I saw an early-80's 911 targa, a 964 C4, and a couple of boxsters. I've seen ONE 944 in the last month, which is even eclipsed by the number of 914's I've seen (2 last month).

I honestly can't remember when I happened across a 951 on the road. It's been well over a year.

OT: Regarding seeing many Porsches... I've never seen more "911's" than when I past through London last month. In 1.5 days I saw between 19-23 996's (all variations). I quit counting somewhere in the teens.

There are quit a few 944's in the Phoenix area, but not too many Turbos. However, I do see more 944 Turbos than 993's. But more 3.2 911's than 944T's.

The only time I see another 951 is if I hook up with my buddy (he's got the same car) or if I go to a PCA event.

Blood-

I've seen the same car and it's an na from what I've seen of it. There is also a 924S in an apt complex just off 52 down by Lex. I live up near Mt. Airy, but nobody knows where that is. I work in G'boro and see a red 944cab nearly every day on 40bus. There are a couple of 951s in my area, one of which is driven by the principal at my daughter's middle school. It's an 86 with very low miles and kept garaged. If you get the chance, come down to Ian's this Friday. There will be a number of 951s there, one of them is well worth the trip. If you do come, make sure to get a good look at Salama's car.

I took my first spirited drive yesterday in the "new" 951 and saw 2-951's (red and graphite), 1-944 (white) and no less than 4-911's + the usual Boxsters. Seems the nice weather really brought the Porsches out for a Sunday cruise along the river. It's funny, it seems the 911 drivers never even acknowledge us as Porsche owners, but I always get a nod from the water-cooled set.

The only time a 911 driver acknowledged me, he was in an early 911T.

I don't expect 911's and boxsters to wave, and when they don't, I'm not surprised.

I don't think my Guards Red car is very visible. I couldn't even get an early-80's 928 to notice me. Maybe everyone sees so few 951's, they think I'm an rx-7? Nah. More than likely, my fellow p-car owners around here aren't much different than everybody else, and they aren't paying that much attention to the other cars around them. Or they just don't care.

It's 951 envy. At our PCA-UCR meetings some are awed at the performance and it's a "Turbo"!

I NEVER see turbos. I see beat up 944's and there is a guy, that keeps ogling my Turbo at the grocery store, that has a very nice 944S, but I can't remember seeing a single other Turbo. That said, I haven't yet joined PCA and Brumos is based here, so I'm sure there are probably some nice 944's of all flavors around, but I don't see them. That said, I see a Testarossa about every month or so, and a new 911 turbos ALL the time, not to mention Boxsters. It is great to have my high school dream car as an adult, just to find that it is still just as f---ing fast and exotic as it was in '86. There truly is no substitute.
By the way, Do use anti-seize on spark plugs, no matter who tells you different, (I did'nt and had one twist off yesterday) And DON't fix it if it aint broke! (2hrs labor w/ easy out at the shop, and one GODZILLION dollars worth of trepidation, sweat and vomit when I broke the stinking thing that never needed to be replaced). FEel my pain and avoid feeling your own!
