Default CV joint / axel options?? Anyone got some laying around??

I'm in the process of removing my engine to take care of some oil leaks and replace a clutch that is now probably not broken..

Went to the gear box to check the CVs and realised one was broken.
The CV that connects to the gearbox is finished.

So i need options on what to do. Do i just change the CV? Do i change the axel?
Any recommended brands?

I'm not making big power or anything crazy so i don't need nothing over kill really.
Something off the shelf ready to buy
or new second hand..

Thanks

Did some searching around and the EMPI 90-6805 kept being mentioned. Anyone running these? Results?

Is this the right part?

Paul,

This recent thread has some great info.

https://rennlist.com/forums/944-turb...servation.html

I run the EMPI joints (EMPI 90-6805) with the OEM shafts and been very happy with the results. Also, make sure you do something to keep the tranny from swinging side to side. I use a Kelly Mount.

Thanks Shawn,

I had a look at that thread a while a go but forgot what it was called!

I did modify my mount for less flex, but i might go to more of a semi solid approach (not hard to machine up for me)

I'll go ahead and order those and re use my shafts.
Cheers.

I ended up asking xschop to make me a set of axles, and ordering the EMPI 98-5084-B CV joints on his recommendation. I'll admit that I didn't really drill down on the differences between the 98-5084B and the 90-6805 CV joints. There are a handful of threads here that give some info on both, but nothing all that clear to me. I ordered the ones xschop recommended, in part, just so I'd know they had the right spline count, etc.

I'll go with the one shawn uses as it's it uses the stock shafts. If i need better axels i probably can make a set myself. I'm not laying down that much power to break them often,

Well.. one of my EMPI 90-6805 CVs gave way today.
I bought a set of EMPI 98-5084-B to replace those. we'll see how they go.

I also will brace the box in the mean time while waiting on delivery.

I suppose my tyres hooking up in 1st gear isn't really good for the CV joints...
