I mocked up my head and 8v gears. This is with the 22 mm wide belt I cross-referenced.
Looks like if just need to machine off the back of the 8v gear housing and make a gear retaining sleeve. I may even be able to make it so the rotor and distributor cap will work fine rather than having to megasquirt it off the bat...
I also need to make that adapter for the water neck.
What did porsche use to block off the rear cam oil feeds in the journals?
I picked up a 968 intake manifold fairly cheap and I plan on modifying it to make work.
I have not really given much thought to the (nessessary?) valve reliefs in the pistons yet though.

Humboldt- maybe the 944S one will work then.

and the 968 intake manifold will be a challenge because the intake ports are SO HUGE compared to the 928 head. i wouldn't be surprised if the 968 runners were 50% larger cross section than the 928S3 head. you'll need to make a "adapter plate" like i did a few pages back.

I would need to buy everything for the 4v to make it work. I have a mostly complete 944s2 and a complete 968 sitting next to this Frankenstein mock-up motor. I don't want to cannibalize the two I have but I will peek inside them if necessary.
I saw that and I had planned on doing something like that. I originally though to mod the 8v intake, but once I had the head I realized that was a bad idea. I then picked up the 968 intake to 'hybrid-ize'. I still have not made up my mind on which way to proceed. I may just make a intake flange and do a basic plenum to use a supercharger I have.... or even a few turbos laying around from other projects....

This is what you both needed. I just bought the last one, maybe Ian will run across some more. So now I have an avalible water neck adapter, and 16V crank gear, maybe even a 4V timing tentioner once I get a 968 power steering/ballance shaft front cover housing for the 968 tensioner setup I have.

Oh and the 85/86 928 cam's are longer so the oil supply holes will need to be plugged are the rear can journal. That's not hard, I plan on using a small set screw in each hole after I tap it.

You might be able to use the S2 water neck with the 944S adapter and use the S2 throttle body on the S2 intake with the water ports that match up from the water neck to the throttle body. Then you'll need the other S2 longer hose with a tee in it for the other side of the throttle body hose connection. I'm guessing this one.

You can just buy the rubber inserts with the pins that are used to block the oil feed holes on 944S/S2? Older version was with rubber insert, superseded version is just a pin.

And you said $1.50! There $2.00 each! I can't believe this. I just can't afford to be seen buying them now. There just to cheap. I'm not sure I can go on with this at these prices. The decimal point must be off one digit at least. I guess I should enjoy that price while it last because it won't last forever.

Having installed a 968 intake on a 944S head, I can tell you from personal experience the water neck and intake manifold will both need some work to fit. The intake flange on the 968 is considerably larger than the 944S intake flange and subsequently hits the water neck on the head. Some grinding of the water neck will allow both to fit properly, but you'll also need to grind a small relief in the intake runner for the cap bolt attaching the water neck to the head.
On the topic of 944Online, I like Ian quite a bit but his prices for Genuine Porsche parts are absolutely ludicrous! I just got off the phone with my local dealership and they price 944 104 302 03 at $2.76 and 944 104 305 03 at $2.80. The hardware is just Lowe's stainless for about $5. Even when you factor in the gas to get there and back, it's still less than half price before shipping.

What I found was that there wouldn't be enough metal-gasket overlap to make a good seal, at least eyeballing the 944S gasket over the 928S3 gasket.

Yes I will have to add filler material to the inside of both sides of the port and to the bottom of the outside of the runner (opposite of the injector hole).
I am also going to add a plate for the center bolt hole, so all the bolt holes to the head will be used.

Sorry guys but why are you even bothering with such things? It is much mch easier just to make a CAD drawing and have the flange cut in watercutting or laser or plasma cutting, cost is like 30-50 usd... Then just weld aluminium pipes made oval and you're done...

Honestly I already talked to Tim at SFR and will have him make me one in due time. I was thinking I could have him weld sum bungs on the intake for water injection and maybe future NOS.
