Transmission Linkage bolt backed out and left me stranded.
Just like the title says, went for a ride about 5 minutes from home in my 88 951, as I was turning around to go home, the shifter was complete slop, no gears, nada.
Luckily I had the car in 4th gear which allowed me to drive it home pretty easily until I hit a red light 20 seconds from my house.
My luck, right.
Put the hazards on, called AAA for a tow up the road to my house.
Funny thing I was telling my wife, who was not amused was how many people stopped to chat about the f'in car.
One guy had a 928s4 and wished he had a 951 instead, another guy loved 944's and his old girlfriend had one, a hippie family in a 1974 VW bus pulled up and offered a push, I declined, 3 guys in motorcycles...impressed the porsche attracted so many people.
Needless to say, it sucked, dead at a busy intersection. AAA came, put it on the flatbed and we pushed it into the garage where I proceeded to remove the drivers rear wheel and installed a new bolt.
My questions is , what can I used to prevent this bolt from working it's way out from vibrations again, loctite or drill the head of the bolt and put some locking wire in place?
Here is a pic of the bolt that backed out on the shift linkage. Its 944 to the floor's image, I am just borrowing it for my sake.
Took a quick you tube video also.

Thanks for the info. Should I throw a washer in between the linkages like the porsche PET shows?
The reason I am asking, my shifter is stock but I have a threaded body from the transmission linkage to the shifter linkage.
My shifter has a threaded body to the transmission linkage, is this stock for newer 86+ 944's?
Is this shift linkage on older 944's?

I have the same linkage on both of my cars and haven't had that one come out yet but did get loose, only944 right? But the one for the shifter bar to the linkage is where I had a problem. The bolt with the ground tip on it wasn't long enough and would back out.

Shifter is not stock. The linkage in your "old" photo is the factory part for all years.

Any idea who's shift kit, my thought is schnell.
Here is pics of mine up close and personal.
I took another video of me shifting through the gears and lateral movement when in gear and in neutral to see what you people thoughts are if this is a true short shift kit, the throw seems like stock, but what do I know.
I need to stop saying ok guys at the beginning of every video, driving me mad.

Check out an only944 trans shifter, and replacement shifter handle. I had to adjust the trans after 3000 miles on the needle bearing part, same bolt that came apart on yours, and redrill it and used a cotter pin. But it will never come apart from the get go, just get a little loose. And you have to use a longer jam bolt for the shift arm to the linkage and loctite it good. After I did all that my shifter is very solid. I like the needle bearing design in both of these products. That with my ultra trany mount it feels good to shift without the shifter moving under hard acceleration or deceleration.
