Hi all, well I went and test drove a midnight blue 6spd 968 coupe this evening. I was frankly disappointed in the cars performance. I guess i am just too used to that slingshot, throw you against the seat, feel that you get with a 951 on full boost. it was a really nice car, but just a bit too civilized for my taste. That cold AC sure was nice though.

Some 968's are turds, I don't know if they need valve jobs or if their Vario-timing is off. I drove two chipped 89 Turbos around the time I bought my 968...one before and one after. With shorter gearing and 3 liters my 968 felt just as torquey as the turbos I drove. I sure wasn't disappointed in the performance of my 968. Obviously the turbos are faster but they didn't feel faster with those BIG TALL GEARS.

I've never driven any NA Porsche (or other make, for that matter) that provides the same slingshot sensation I get from my 951. (It might be different in, say, a Viper but I haven't driven one of those). However, that's only true above 3000 rpm. As it's been said a million times, that sensation becomes addictive and it's hard to go back to anything else.

The car is in excellent condition, although the 6 speed trans felt kind of weird at first. the interior was just beautiful, with gray leather. The redline is really high which is nice when you are winding it out. I found the 6th gear to be redundant. I guess it's good for high speed cruising. Altogether i felt that it seemed like a much more refined car than the 951. It just didn't do that much for me except make me want to spend a lot of cash on my 86 951 so it will be "purty" too, as we say down here in Texas. In true 944 series fashion, the sunroof quit working while we were on our test drive. "Oh Well".
