I have heard a similar sound at start up before but it always went away straight away. I didn't let car get warm this time as was sorta freaked out about how loud it was. Sounds like it is coming from cam belt area.
If it goes away when warm would it still be belts ?

I wouldn't start it again if you think it's loose belts. Get the cover off and check. It's reasonably quick to get a look at the belts and will prevent any damage to your engine.

Not sure if everyone else noticed this, but there is an intermittent "roll" within that knocking sound (kind of like a drum roll if you know what I mean). It is the same sound, just much faster. Maybe a loose timing cover? Or maybe a belt sometimes scrapes off the ridges on the outside of the cover?

sure doesn't sound internal. more like a bongo drum.
where you were standing, did it sound like the bongo was being played near the front?

I would definitely pull the covers and inspect, check tension again. Did you recently install the belts and forget the metal guide or maybe plastic belt cover is not seated? And make sure it is not fans hitting the radiator hose. I did this and chewed the hose up not aligning on drivers front side.
