is it just me or is facebook *advice* even worse than normal bad internet advice ? BTW I am not refering to RL in normal internet advice, as I am a member of a lot of car audio forums etc and often see poor advice but facebook seems to bring out ppl who sometimes advocate things that are not only ill advised but often downright dangerous

I quit a couple of years ago as I could not put up anymore with the amount of tosh that was posted almost continually on there. As an ex-admin I got to "remove" one or two folks using such a tone you would wonder what century they came from, and got saturated with the general chit-chat.
The current admins are good folks on here and I wish them well for sure.

I think it's reflective of modern times. Instant gratification. The format is easier than a forum in some senses but not as effective in search and storage I suppose. There are certainly some 'young-uns' that post in an FB manner but you get that... It's more of a show and tell. Having said that, it's good to see some people on there that you don't see on here.

I only recently joined but I have to agree, it's not an elegant way to share and archive technical information. Other than seeing random 944 pictures on my feed I guess I don't really see the point.
Or, maybe, just maybe, I'm old...

That's what I've seen as well. I was slow to make the jump from the old mailing list to this forum back in the day, so I tried giving the FB group a chance, but there's just no there there.... Even if you could search it, I'm not sure there's much to find. If you want 25 opinions on the proper o-ring configuration for a dipstick guide tube, this is still the place to be.

Oh man, the old email list... That was just silly. I was so hooked on it for so long and it was just pointless for quick problem solving ... Good place for info tho. Facebook has its place, parts trading is decent, I've picked up rare and interesting things, made a few "friends". We have a local 944 group which has been quite beneficial.
Yeah, the kids can be hard... Wanna turbo NAs still. But those kids might become the next Sid or Eric or Tom... Worth coaching them sometimes, or correct some misguidance.
But ya, it can be a challenge.

I never joined facebook at all after I got sick of myspace.
