Default More lag, less boost.? help

More and more i think about it. more I remember.

I've been chasing an issue where all of a sudden i've gotten more lag.
On the same '18psi' setting i actually now see 16psi.

I've had to increase the values on my boost controller to get back to similar boost levels.

I've been chasing this for a while but cannot figure it out.

Last thing i remember doing before this happened was talking my intercooler pipes off.

So far, i've checked:

Timing (spot on)
All intake, pipes & hoses.. (looks good to me, took it off and put it together.)

I don't have an exhaust leak.

Maybe wastegate valve could be held opened by dirt?

I am really stumped.

I have t-bolts there. so it shouldn't be.

I was driving home tonight and i think it might have reviled itself..
I replaced the wastegate crossover gasket.. look under the car, 2 of the 3 bolrs are gone...

Did you pull the J-boot and take a look inside the compressor housing? Compressor wheel still OK, no looseness in the shaft, etc?

Drill and lockwire. Hope that's the cause of your issues Pauly...be nice to conquer that problem. :-)

I hope so to Patrick. I started noticing a slight exhaust leak. and slowly got worse. i tried to get onto boost, 5000 rpm it kicked in.
I need to find some new bolts too! 2 are somewhere on the other side of the city!! I might go work on it tonight, hopfully weather cools.

nice find Paulyy, and a handy reminder to check those, mine have thankfully not moved in the 9 years or so since I replaced the original paper gaskets that came with the Tial over to homemade copper ones.

I don't know if mine are original bolts, or not. But they don't stay tight. i'll need to get new ones. If i can drill and lock wire them but IICR they're small. Will try find copper nuts though.

My Tial gaskets are steel gaskets. I made my own gasket with paper for temporary (because i lost the original gasket while i had it removed. I found it in my toolbox) and i think it's holding up.

Will check tomorrow or monday. hopfuly it's not to hot.

Do you go to Keables in the CBD for bolts etc?

Pauly I got some Nord Lock washers for my Tial after someone here suggested them. I haven't fitted them yet but after doing some research they may be another viable option instead of using using lock wire.

Use mechanical locking nuts for sure. Until then, you can cut some bolts to length and use a punch to "peen" (mushroom) the end of the bolt to keep the nut tight. Might have to cut them off though...

The better solution is to convert to a v-band on all of these connections.
