Default 944 LSD fits in the Audi s4 b7 (front)

A friend of mine has a audi S4 B7 series. and said apparently the 944 and the s4 has the same aftermarket LSD unit part numbers. and showed me this link

http://store.034motorsport.com/wavet...udi-front.html

Interestingly i done a search and found one guy used a factory 944 turbo LSD in his S4 and worked. So i guess if any Audi nut has got an LSD unit for their car ect, it'll work for ours.

differential gears? I have no idea to be honest.

I only posted this as this info was knew to me and it would be new to some others. But it might shed some light into other options that might work with their transaxle to ours. (except theirs is at the front)

Did not know this . Read somewhere about a guy putting a Os Giken "944 diff" in his Audi something he did however write that Os had to change something "mirror the setup" in the LSD due to the diff sitting on the other side of the axle.
As for 6 speed gears wish i knew. I have a 5 speed 951 gearbox with the 5th gear from a Audi 5000\Audi 100 gearbox (0.64).
Look forward to try that hope i can cruise around 2300 rpm and finally make 180mph.
Anyways wont find out before i get the New diff and gearbox installed in the car. It does make me wonder how similar the 968 gearbox is to the Audi ones 01E .

I don't know about the front, but I have installed a 944 LSD in the S4 rear differential. It requires some very minor machining to the inside of the case to make clearance for the LSD case bolt heads, which I'm able to do without resorting to a machine shop. The customer I did this for loves the setup.

You can also use a Torsen diff out of an A8. It only requires one side to be turned down to fit the smaller bearing. A lot of a8s were equipped with this diff and they are around in the bone yards.

Is there a particular part or model number I need to look for to find the 0.64 5th gear?

It's out of the Audi V8, not A8. And those rear diffs like to explode a lot more often than any other Audi diff. You'd have better luck finding a Porsche LSD.

Might be both. My link is for the front LSD

Hopefully this give us more options for LSD units?

Not really, since no Audi besides the Audi V8 came with a rear or front LSD from the factory. And the V8 Torsen one is basically made of glass. The only Audi options are aftermarket.
The only way it benefits Porsche guys is if you find someone with an Audi that bought an aftermarket (Wavetrac) LSD and is selling it used. It's much more beneficial to Audi owners, who will now snag up the already rare 944 LSD's.

Quick Reply: 944 LSD fits in the Audi s4 b7 (front)
