Default Cylinder Head Question

The 2.7 head below belongs to a friend. Head was worked by an experienced local shop. Curious as to why they did not weld and repair the gouges in the photo below. I am thinking the sharp edges should be removed at the very least. Thoughts?

Maybe they dropped a Dremmel on it.

Odd that they left it like that or even agreed to work on it. What did they say to 'your friend' ?

You didn't request it..

It's not a really big deal. Unless you're pushing the tuning limits, it won't matter. Just use a small sanding roll and hit the edges if it's of concern.

However, they should have mentioned it.

My thoughts are that any material missing from around a seat can contribute to burning that exhaust valve!!! Think about how unevenly this will heat the seat, create unusual carbon deposits which can loosen up and have other downstream impacts. Inexcusable!

This is no problem if the head is not cracked.

As long as the headgasket contact area is flat and clean this makes no big difference, it is not perfect, but should not cause any problems.

At minimum any sharp edges should be filed down. In a worst case scenario, sharp edges in the combustion chamber can cause preignition if your are pushing the limits/and or something fails . . . .
